Stuck on Stupid in Alabama " Thank God (Republicans) are in control of the Senate and the House." Richard Shelby says

Sweet Home Alabama, listed as one of the most corrupt states in the nation, already has one of the loosest gun restrictions in the country, but that wasn't good enough for the red, republican, controlled state legislation.  Nope.  They want to make it easier for children to walk around locked and loaded so they can whine about black on black crime, and have candlelight vigils for victims of gun violence.
To rectify this gap in the unstated “guns for everyone” mentality of Alabama’s Republican-led legislature, lawmakers have proposed an amendment to the state’s gun laws that would allow minors to acquire their very own pistols. At the moment, the law is on a bit more even keel, stipulating that “no person shall deliver a pistol to any person under the age of 18.” Lawmakers want that changed to allow minors to have pistols, but only if they get the permission of a “parent, guardian, or spouse who is 18 or older (?)”
And they wonder why police shoot first and ask questions later?
The bill, if passed, would also eliminate record-keeping requirements from the Code of Alabama, removing language that mandates firearm dealers "keep a permanent record of the sale of every pistol, revolver, or maxim silencer, showing the date of sale, serial number, or other identification marks, manufacturer's name, caliber and type, and also the name and address of the purchaser."
Who could possibly think this is a good idea?
The measure is sponsored by three state senators: Arthur Orr, Greg Reed and Clay Scofield (all Republicans). A matching House bill is being sponsored by Ed Henry, Micky Hammon, Barry Moore and Corey Harbison (all Republicans). It’s unclear why the group of lawmakers felt that kids needed additional relaxation of existing gun laws.

 God, please help America.
"This world will be a dangerous world - more dangerous than it is today. I hope that deal doesn't come through. If it does, Congress is going to speak on it and I believe we will turn it down. Thank God (Republicans) are in control of the Senate and the House."
I submit Sweet Home Alabama will be a dangerous state - more dangerous than it is today.
Bills like these may be a victory for the NRA, but they are, without a doubt, putting the lives of children in danger. How warped is the mentality of Alabama’s pro-gun lobby that they feel that kids need handguns? How many of Alabama’s children need to die before the “freedom” of a child to carry a pistol isn’t worth the sacrifice? These are questions Alabama lawmakers must answer.
I thought republicans were pro-life?
Republicans aren't pro-life. They are just pro-birth. And there's a big difference between the two.

IF you actual read the Harvard Study, you would find, first, it is a very flawed survey, and second, that it is a survey of reporters perceptions of the level of corruption in that state. It's not a study of the corruption level of the states but a study of the perception of corruption based on the viewpoints of the reporters of that state.

The report by addicting info shows what bad reporters they are.

Quoting the Addicting Info article and bolding for emphasis:

Quoting from the AL.com column about the bill that was linked to by the Addicting Info article and bolding for emphasis:
Orr said early Friday evening that the bill will not affect federal law prohibiting minors from purchasing firearms and is simply meant to allow minors to use guns to hunt, target practice and other recreational activities.

Orr said he started hunting with his parents' permission when he was 12, which under current law is technically illegal. He said the bill and its companion in the House are meant to bring reason and common sense to Alabama's gun laws.

So Addicting Info say the reasoning behind the bill is unknown, but the column they used as a basis for their article provides the reasoning...

And your point is what exactly?

The Harvard Study no more proves Alabama is corrupt than media coverage of african-americans proves that african-americans are violent criminals.

They asked 1000 reporters, whose names they gathered by searching the internet, for their opinions and they got 280 responses. These reporters were contacted by e-mail exclusively.

They didn't look at how many political officials were actually charged or even convicted of corruption because the study's authors believed that those numbers are tainted by who is in office at the time (Democrats more likely to be charged by the DOJ when there is a Republican President and vice versa, Republicans are more likely to be charged by the DOJ when there is a Democrat President).

But they never looked at the political leanings of the reporters they were surveying. They don't list who responded. They don't list how many reporters from each state responded (except for Louisiana, because no reporters responded from Louisiana).

This is the old let's talk about the Harvard Study so we won't have to talk about the red, republican, controlled, state legislature arming children, trick. You can agree or disagree with the study, but the substance of this post is about making it legal for children to have a gun. This is your warning.

Yes, the legislature is arming children, when they are in the company of adults.

They are fixing language in the law that made it illegal for anybody under the age of 18 to even hold a gun in the state of Alabama. Right now it is illegal for a father to teach his child how to shot. Right now it is illegal for a father to take his child hunting and to let the child shoot.

They are reducing paperwork on store owners by no longer requiring guns be registered with the state which has been superceded by Federal Law. Gun store owners will still have to register gun sales with the federal government.

Gun laws are not being made more lax in the State of Alabama. It will still be illegal for children to be in possession of a gun if there is not a LEGAL guardian around. It will still be illegal for gun store owners not to register the sale of a gun.

Addicting Info still did a bad job of reporting the story when they claimed that there was no reason given for the law when reason had been clearly given in the al.com column they were referencing.

We have that now. Did you not see all the recent shooting here in Huntsville??!! Those were young teens 17-20!! They also do not have gun permits! The guns are not registered!

And your point is what exactly? Never mind. mm Eye know.

I was replying to your comment that the bill will make it easier for kids to walk around locked and loaded as you say! I disagree kids teens etc have guns now that are not registered, or either stolen etc. We do not need to regulate anything that makes it harder for the law abiding citizens.

What part of law abiding citizens are making it easy for criminals and psycho's to get guns and ammo don't you understand Fed Up?
