Proof of Republican Obstruction thanks to FED UP

According to FED UP The following are 20 ways that the U.S. economy has gotten even worse since Barack Obama became president....and what the TeaPublicans enabled by the mainstream media (sic) are obstructing. I don't know where FED UP got this info (probably from some right wing anti Obama source), but I would like to thank FED UP for providing proof republicans care more about their party than they do our country. Why republicans think we are going to reward them for bad behavior is beyond me.

#1 In January 2009, the official U.S. unemployment rate was 7.6 percent. Today it is 9.1 percent.

#2 When Barack Obama took office, the number of "long-term unemployed" in the United States was approximately 2.6 million. Today, that number is up to 6.2 million.

#3 When Barack Obama first became president, the average price of a gallon of gasoline in the United States was $1.83. Today it is $3.79. This also affects the price of almost everything else that we buy.

#4 In April 2009, the average U.S. household spent approximately $201 on gasoline. In April 2011, the average U.S. household spent approximately $369 on gasoline.

#5 According to an article in the Daily Mail, the cost of a Memorial Day cookout was 29 percent higher this year than it was last year.

#6 When Barack Obama was sworn in, there were nearly 32 million Americans on food stamps. Today, there are more than 44 million on food stamps.

#7 According to the U.S. Census, the number of children living in poverty has gone up by about 2 million in just the past 2 years.

#8 When Barack Obama took office, the U.S. national debt was 10.6 trillion dollars. Today it is 14.3 trillion dollars.

#9 The federal government has borrowed 29,660 more dollars per household since Barack Obama signed the economic stimulus law two years ago.

#10 During Barack Obama's first two years in office, the U.S. government added more to the U.S. national debt than the first 100 U.S. Congresses combined.

#11 The combined debt of the major GSEs (Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac and Sallie Mae) has increased from 3.2 trillion in 2008 to 6.4 trillion in 2011. Thanks to George W. Bush, Barack Obama and the U.S. Congress, U.S. taxpayers are standing behind that debt.

#12 Under Obama, the U.S. trade deficit continues to grow. The trade deficit was about 33 percent larger in 2010 than it was in 2009, and the 2011 trade deficit is expected to be even bigger.

#13 Only 66.8% of American men had a job last year. That was the lowest level that has ever been recorded in all of U.S. history.

#14 Just since August, 2 million more Americans have left the labor force.

#15 In 2010, more than a million U.S. families lost their homes to foreclosure for the first time ever, and that number is expected to go even higher in 2011.

#16 The U.S. real estate crisis just continues to get worse. During the first three months of this year, less new homes were sold in the U.S. than in any three month period ever recorded.

#17 The U.S. dollar has fallen by 17 percent compared to other major national currencies since 2009.

#18 Faith in the U.S. dollar and in U.S. Treasuries is rapidly declining. The mainstream news is not reporting on it much, but right now the Chinese are rapidly dumping U.S. government debt. That is not a good sign.

#19 When Barack Obama first took office, an ounce of gold was going for about $850. Today an ounce of gold costs about $1500.

#20 Americans seem to be more pessimistic about the economy than ever. According to a brand new poll, 61 percent of Americans believe that they will not return to their "pre-recession" lifestyles until at least 2014.


Republicans drove the country into the ditch like drunk frats boys, blocked the tow truck and the ambulance, and they say President Obama is a failure? Give me a break. They must think we are stoopid.

At the end of the day, FED UP will look at the above as proof positive of how Obama wrecked the country, despite barely serving out his first term in office.

Chances are he won't see any of this as the reverberating effects of policy set by the previous Bush administration, which had 8 years to mold and shape the events we're seeing today.

Republicans will have perpetrated the biggest con job in history, if they can successfully pass their failures onto President Obama and liberals.

It just shows how far some partisans are willing to go to suspend reality in order to advance a fraudulent political position.

You're right: What these numbers show is that Republican policies--during the Bush years and beyond--smote this nation and its economy an almost mortal blow.

If Republican actions aren't enough to kill the party utterly, and the populace continues to vote them into office, then the nation has a death wish, and no matter how much Obama, or liberals intervene to avert disaster, it can't save a nation hell-bent on its own destruction.

I am considered the radical southern redneck racist by Redeye and others. I'll give you some info again.

I am independent it all depends on the issue. I grew up poor borrowed money to go to college worked since I was 14 and have struggled in life. I never asked for a handout. I worked hard to get a degree and a decent job and to have things I did not have as a kid due to being poor.If I lost a job as a teenager or young adult I found another one. Many did not pay much of anything but I did not beg for others to pay my way! I do not agree with entitlement programs lasting more than 3 years. I agree with birth control and drug test while you receive benefits those 3 years! I believe in the death penalty not abortion. I believe we need to worry about offending the rights of Americans and not everyone else. I believe in the immigration bills. I believe EVERYONE should pay their fair share of taxes!

I believe that we should not touch social security! I believe if you never paid into social security you should never get a social security check. I could go on and on but I'll stop!

Yeah...the biggest con job is to blame the Bush administration for the mortgage crisis? It happened in 2008. TAARP was signed and approved by Bush BEFORE he left office during the primaries. So, yeah, this happened indeed under the Bush watch. I don't care what right wing propaganda you have, I will believe my lying eyes, remember McCain suspending his campaign, "the fundamentals of our economy are strong". Palin's disastrous interview with Katie Couric talking about the bail out? I mean are you people serious? Revisionist history for the loss.

This cut and paste video clip (purposely lacking context) is an attempt to direct the lion share of the blame for the housing crisis onto Democrats, and Democrats alone.

For that reason, it lacks credibility, and balance--designed purely to deflect blame from Republicans for their part in our economic free fall, and to lay blame solely at the feet of liberals.

Not to worry: If you thoroughly investigate the fiasco that is our economy--rather than depend upon You Tube for your information--then you'll know that there's blame aplenty to go around.

Yet, I render unto Bush that which is Bush's and to Obama that which is Obama's.

It wasn't Obama that blew a budget surplus that he inherited from a Democratic president (Bill Clinton), cut taxes for the rich and the middle class (to starve the beast), and started two wars for which he borrowed heavily from China, Saudi Arabia and others to pay for them.

Bush did that.

It wasn't Obama's failed policies that plunged this nation into a recession, or bailed out banks deemed "too big too fail."

Again, that was George W. Bush.

With the best of intentions, and facing a hostile Republican party, and deploying a stimulus package that was hundreds of billions of dollars shy of what it should have been--according to economists--but making do with what he could squeeze through a Congress of Republican obstructionists, President Obama has struggled mightily to undo the damage to the economy that George Bush wrought.

To see this Republican policy failure as a win, and to somehow hold President Obama blameworthy is the height of arrogance, partisan political hackery and ideological blindness.

That you would indicate support for the Republican party, and its stated agenda to take back the presidency and the Congress at any cost, including, but not limited to, allowing the country to fall economically, in order that the Republican party might rise victoriously, albeit upon a heap of broken lives, double-digit unemployment, and a stagnant economy, is to give credence to my statement upthread: the nation has a death wish, and no matter how much Obama, or liberals intervene to avert disaster, it can't save a nation hell-bent on its own destruction.

Redeye- you are right. I got a studnet loan and went to college but it's paid off now. I guess I did ask for something but not something free!!!!

Black D- I agree all humans benefit the whole. I only want ALL humans to participate in helping the whole. My money should not continue to go to welfare! Again I do not disagree with helping I only disagree with how long someone is on welfare!!

In the old days colonies etc. each human had a job ie hunter fisherman cook soldier etc etc if you did not do a job you were cast out of the colony tribe etc. It's time for EVERYONE to do their part, like everyone paying taxes,everyone trying to better themselves so they do not have to rely on others year after year after year etc.

You guys can express yourself a lot better than I can and know a little more about Government policies. I'd like to know why we pay social security to people who never paid into it? Also, why are we having problems with it and will it continue to be there for the future generations? It seems that I have paid in thousands of dollars but why will I not receive all that I paid in? I'd like a big check back for all I have paid in for the last 24 years or so that would stimulate the economy.

In the old days America had slaves who worked and built this country for FREE. When were they paid for all the work they did? When were they paid for stimulating the growth of this country?

Maybe if you got your information from sources other than Fox News and Hate Radio you would be better informed and could express yourself better.

They were not paid black or white slaves. We can change that now nor should we feel obligated to pay anyone who was not an actual slave!!!

Whites slaves have descendents too! Do we pay them?

I watch MSNBC and CNN and read the papers.

If you watched other channels maybe you would realize it's not all about being black!

I'm all for using the race card when it's needed but it's used about 98% to much. If you are black and do not like something just say it offends me because it's racist, or if you go to jail say it's cause I am black or you did not get the job etc etc etc

SOMETIMES it has nothing to do with race!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No, I was exactly what they were looking for: I was the right sex, with the right education, the right skills, the right experience, and the right professionalism--everything but the "right" color.

How do I know? The white interviewer told me so. The company had paid big bucks to fly me to the interview--after a long telephone interview where color was never raised, and they couldn't determine my race by my speech, but admitted later, somewhat reluctantly, but with uncommon candor, that I was the wrong race, the wrong color.

For your information: Blacks encounter these kinds of things often. What's not commonplace is the honesty with which this white company chose to deal with the interview and their reason for turning me down.

I condemn violence: All violence--white on white, white on black, black on black, or black on white.

But it's not racism that prompts black on white violence: It's most likely a response to racism--one begetting the other.

The "rebel flag," as you call it, is a symbol of treason, and racial tyranny.

It should come as no surprise to find that Jews are repelled by the Third Reich Nazi German Flags being flown are displayed (which by the way are still being sold), but blacks should just get over their repulsion to having the Confederate Battle Flag flown or displayed.

Why is it: Everyone but blacks can be offended by evil symbols, but we aren't allowed?

I'm sorry you did not get that job but that's one example. My point was NOT everything is about race.

Some do use the rebel flag as a hate symbol but there are some who use it as a symbol of heritage etc! Don't take away something that a few make it into something else!

Some of you say that blacks can't be racist due to their ancestors being slaves!! That's B.S. Can Jews be racist due to the Holocaust? I will also point out as I have before whites were also slaves!

The video is utterly damning of the democrats who steadfastly refused to stop enriching themselves and driving the country towards disaster despite Republican attempts (admittedly weak attempts) to get some control over the situation. Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae were cesspools of fraudulent accounting and mismanagement. I know. I was there.

You can call "context" all you want, but the context is clear, and in their own words.

History will tell a different tale than the one the MSM passed off.

In that case, perhaps we should arrest you and all the other crooks that had a hand in the malfeasance that saw this country fall head first in the crapper.

We both know there's plenty of blame to go around--bankers who misrepresented to Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac the safety and quality of certain mortgage loans, raters who certified these cobbled mortgage investment instruments as Triple A (AAA), and mortgage insurers who backed these mostly worthless securities using credit default swaps, and doing so without settings aside adequate capital reserves to pay claims, if they occurred, but, instead, pocketed the money.

What's your point? Are you putting "white slavery" on a par with "black slavery"? Are you saying that "white slaves" experienced the same dehumanization and degradation, as black slaves, and for a similar period of time, or are you saying that the Emancipation Proclamation freed as many white slaves as black slaves?

Even today, a form of slavery is still carried out in the United States.

It's ok to care about heritage, your race etc but MOST blacks were not slaves and did not live through the violence of the 50's 60's and 70's. Therefore I think it's absurd to continue to act as if they did.

If any symbol offends you don't look at it. Should I be offended if I see Black Panther T-shirt when we all know they are like the KKK. Yes I would be but I don't have the right to cry loud enough to outlaw wearing the t shirts.

There are blacks who think that they are superior to whites just listen to a few you tube videos of the New Black Panther Party!

Should we be offended by people like Jessie Jackson? He never said sorry for stirring the racial pot over the Duke lacrosse players who were NOT GUILTY!!!!!!!! He never went back to that city and said sorry!! Black leaders like him and Farrakhan and New Black Panthers are just like the KKK of today.(not the KKK of the past)

Is it racism to call other blacks uncle toms or sellouts like Walter Williams Hermain Cain etc? YES IT IS! Why are they sellouts just because they think differently?

I'd be happy to take all KKK type people as well as all New Black Panther Party Farrakhan people etc and put them all on an Island some where to live.

Tell me this: Why are you compelled to equate white slavery with black slavery?

It doesn't reduce the horror of what happened here in America, nor does it change the hard, inescapable facts: the turpitude of Antebellum Southern whites that was on display for the whole world to see.

Such moral depravity flew into the face of our U.S. Constitution that first supported slavery, when contrasted with our stated American ideals as espoused in our Declaration of Independence: "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness."

Further, how many of those Europeans, made slaves, were subjected to the harsh realities of the Middle Passage, where estimates run as high as almost 3 million dead during the transport of Africans to the New World.

Factoring in those who were killed in Africa in the capturing process, the number could easily exceed 6 million.

This "excuse" thing is your fantasy. When blacks have legitimate grievances around race, they should speak up and out.

If whites have legitimate grievances in South Africa, they, too, should speak out, as should blacks there. Yet, I don't think the situation in South Africa is as grievous as you make out, and, even if it is, I'm reminded of this truism: "As you sow you reap."

As I see it, whites are in for a whole lot of reaping. How see you?
