RedEye's Week in Reviw

Fist Dap jobsanger: Don't Back Down
The week ended just like it started, with the republicans still in state of denial, and the media trying to turn the losers (republicans)  into the winners (democrats).

We seem to be in a cycle that mimics the movie "Groundhog Day." The election ended with the resounding re-election of Barack Obama, something the Republican Party, with its customary rabid partisanship, refuses to accept.
I wonder what part of  significant reforms to entitlement programs like Medicare and Medicaid, deep spending cuts and not raising tax rates for the wealthy LOST on election day don't they understand?  Been there, done that, and guess what, it didn't work then, it's not working now, and it won't work in the future. If their way worked we wouldn't be in this mess.
Conservative economic thought is based on a single simple premise, which just so happens to be wrong. The premise is that if you make sure businesses* have as much money as possible, they'll hire more workers. One easy way to do that, they claim, is to lower their taxes.
If that were really the case, though, the economy would be in great shape. After all, corporate profits after taxes are at all-time highs (and the same is true even after accounting for inflation. So why aren't more businesses hiring?
Annoy the media, it's time for democrats to act like democrats and stop pandering to voters who MIGHT vote for them at the expense of voters who DO vote for them.  What good is electing democrats if they are going to govern like a republican?
In 2010, Beltway Democrats miscalculated badly. Many of them-- with the acquiescence and even the encouragement of the leadership-- decided the safer bet was to vote like a Republican rather than to embrace and explain a progressive vision for solving real problems that face the country. So Democratic voters didn't go to the polls and dozens of House Democrats-- mostly Blue Dogs and New Dems but a few good people as well-- lost their seats. Preventing another catastrophe like that should be a big focus of the House Dems.
No more Twinkies, the execs get $1.76 million in bonuses, 18,500 workers get the shaft. Blame the Union.
But before you jump, be sure to blame it on the union workers. Those workers who were too greedy to swallow yet another pay cut, this time for eight percent. Or see their pension fund gutted, and their benefits slashed 17 percent. Or take these demands from a CEO who saw his own personal salary triple from $750,000 to roughly $2.5 million.
NOT.  Blame the gop infused media enabled Tea Party and the Suckers who elected them.
On the other side you’ve got the Tea Party supporters, brandishing their swords and demanding free enterprise unfettered by government. In another world that might be a good idea, but apparently nobody’s told them that the corporate-political machine is playing them like puppets on a string. In the end, they’re nothing but bouncers for that top one percent.
The White on Rice Offensive was in full gear this week as republicans blamed United Nations Ambassodor Susan Rice for being the National Security Adviser on 9/11,  the Secretary of State in 1998, and a political operative in 2012.  There is more than a whiff of hypocrisy.
“We find it utterly incredulous that the Honorable Senators who uncritically supported the war against Iraq, based on inexplicably flawed intelligence or outright deception, could even perk their lips to criticize Ambassador Rice.”
Wednesday nights memorial service for 17 year old Jordan Davis was of course very sad and full of emotion
as his parents prepare to bury him in Powder Springs, Georgia on Saturday.   Davis was shot and killed after 45 year old Michael Dunn  fired 8-9 bullets in the car he was riding in because he (Dunn)  thought he had the right to order a car load of African American teens to turn their music down.  After the shooting Dunn fled the scene because he was afraid a gang of blacks were going to come after him.  I wonder why he would think something like that?  Sounds like Florida is a good place to be from, and the home of  black parents worst nightmare.
To sum up, Dunn shot at an unarmed group of teens (of color) because they cursed at him while refusing to turn down their music, which evidently makes them gang members. It sounds to me like Dunn, much like George Zimmerman, may actually believe he is the victim here.

President Obama's Inaugural Theme Announced

I am singing Glory, Glory, Hallelujah the leader and the Grand Old Party of Obstructionist failed in their attempt to take the country back to the good old days!   We are moving FORWARD!

The theme of President Obama's inaugural ceremonies will be "Faith in America's Future," announced Sen. Chuck Schumer, chairman of the Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies. Schumer said in a release Thursday:
“Our nation has faced countless challenges throughout its history, and each time we have come together as Americans and moved forward with renewed strength. During the 57th Presidential Inauguration, Americans from across the country will gather beneath the Capitol Dome to celebrate our history, take measure of how far we have come, and look towards our future with hope and determination.”
I wonder if Senator Jefferson Beauregard Sessions is going to send the Azalea Trail Maidens to represent Alabama the Beautiful in the Inaugural Parade again?

BTW, would someone please inform the mainstream media DEMOCRATS WON the election?  I am sick of the- MSM, Talking TeeVee Pundit Heads trying to turn the losers into the winners, and the winners into the losers.  Who really cares the losers oppose  Dr. Susan Rice but would vote to confirm Senator John Kerry?  Who cares the losers want entitlement reform (spending cuts) so the rich can keep getting richer while the rest keep getting the shaft?  I mean, really

What Michael Tomasky said!
With opposition to Susan Rice mounting daily, Michael Tomasky proposes six alternative nominees for the top post at Foggy Bottom. Head of the list? The winner of the 2000 election.

Shock and Shame in Pro Life/Stand Your Ground America

Move over George Zimmerman

 On March 15th, 2012 havalittletalk said;
Honestly Redeye if I were black I don't know if I would have the courage to have children in this country.
And that's exactly what it takes, courage, and prayers if you are born poor/black/brown in the United States of America. Sigh

Seventeen year old Jordan Russell (17) was shot and killed by Michael Dunn (45) in the parking lot of a convenience store in Jacksonville, Florida last Friday.  Dunn's car was parked next to the car Russell was in and ordered them to turn their music down.  Words were exchanged, Dunn pulled a gun and fired 8-9 shots into the car, striking Russell 2 times and drove off the a Jacksonville Hotel.  Witnesses jotted down his tag number (thank God) and he was arrested at his home in Satellite Beach, FL. {source}

Michael Dunn, his attorney, and his daughter said he acted responsively is invoking the Stand Your Ground defense.

Oh, Okay.

RedEye's Tuesday Talking Points

2012map
Red State America:  The Roviat Union
One of the only campaign predictions the Talking TeeVee Pundit Heads got right (pun intended) was that the gop infused, media enabled, Tea Party would maintain their majority in the House of Representatives thanks to  gerrymandering.  You see,  TeaPublican controlled state legislatures redrew the voting districts to dilute the democratic vote, because they know it's the only way they can lie and   win.  Yep, gerrymandering is OK as long as it benefits republicans.  No matter how hard we try we can't vote them out of office.  Ain't that a dip?
“Although the Republicans won 55% of the House seats, they received less than half of the votes for members of the House of Representatives. Indeed, more than half-a-million more Americans voted for Democratic House candidates than for Republicans House candidates. There was no split-decision. The Democrats won both the presidential election and the House election. But the Republicans won 55% of the seats in the House.
This seems crazy. How could this be?
This answer lies in the 2010 election, in which Republicans won control of a substantial majority of state governments. They then used that power to re-draw congressional district lines in such a way as to maximize the Republican outcome in the 2012 House election.”

Speaking of bending the rules to their benefit, Republicans threaten to shut down the senate over majority rule.  Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D) is considering banning the filibuster, which  the republican minority used in their failed attempt to make President Barack Obama a one term President,  however they were successful in keeping him from governing.  Don't just threaten to ban the filibuster, Harry, make my day and just do it!
Republicans, who are responsible for the worst abuses of Senate procedures, have threatened to "shut down the Senate" in retaliation. There's just one problem with this threat: they've already been doing that for four years. How will we be able to tell the difference?
The school to prison pipeline is alive and well thanks to privation  and the Obama enabled  Oligarch's plan to replace teachers with computers, regardless of what parents/tax payers have to say.
Tonight, Mr. Michael Robbins “a senior advisor for the U.S. Department of Education” is meeting with a group of “parents” to hear real, honest, and heartfelt opinions about the digital transition. Didn’t hear about this? Of course not. The Huntsville Council of PTAs decided that the only way to get these real, honest, and heartfelt opinions about the digital transition is to have the meeting behind closed doors, out of the sight of the public and that the only parents who are deemed worthy of having a real, honest, and heartfelt opinion about the computers in this town are PTA Presidents. So tonight from 6-8pm at Grissom High, Mr. Robbins will meet with the PTA Presidents and whomever else the Huntsville Council of PTAs deems worthy of attending so that he can hear from people who are not likely to rock the boat by telling him the truth.
Will President Obama pick up the pace on pardons in his second term, or, are pardons only for Turkeys?
However, a major stumbling block is the pardons process itself.  Presidents rely on recommendations from the Office of the Pardon Attorney, which is a part of the Department of Justice.
The problem is that these days, the office recommends to reject the vast majority of applicants.  Further, the process is rife with injustice, as applicants with congressional support are three times more likely to receive a pardon, whites four times more likely to be pardoned than applicants of color, and blacks the least likely to catch a break from the president.

Today in "It's OK if You Are a Black Republican Woman"

Dr. Susan Rice (D)

Do republicans really think all black folks look alike?  The reason I'm asking is because evidently, some in the GOP have Dr. Susan Rice and Dr. Condolezza Rice, both women of color, confused with each other.

Dr. Susan Rice is being described by grumpy old (white) men as incompetent and unfit to be nominated to replace Hillary Clinton as Secretary of State because she relayed information given to her by those who are supposed to know in wake of the attack on the U.S. Embassy in Libya in a television interview.  Gasp!

Mind you, these are some of the same grumpy old (white) men who nominated and confirmed Dr. Condolezza Rice, who was the National Security Adviser on 9/11, to replace General Colin Powell as Secretary of State after they relayed information given to them by those who are supposed to know to take us to war in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Condoleezza Rice - Wikipedia

Was Dr. Condolezza Rice ever called incompetent and unfit to be Secretary of State?  Nope.  The republican party can deny the racism and sexism against Dr. Susan Rice, but the narrative and the facts just don't fit.
Admittedly, not every accusation of racism against the Republican Party has turned out to be actual racism. But the birther thing is. The Southern Strategy is. The Voter ID crusade is. And in numerous cases, Republicans hate the president because he represents the browning of America and the slow suffocation of white supremacy. They’re willing to permit a few tokens like Marco Rubio, Allen West and Condoleezza Rice because they serve a purpose: to blunt often valid criticism of racism in the party’s rhetoric and electoral strategy. But leaders like Susan Rice and Barack Obama are the real deal, with lopsidedly massive support among all minority groups. Republicans will never fully understand how badly the Southern Strategy has poisoned the party. And no matter how many “scare quotes” are employed or how many times they desperately reach back and try to paint the modern Democratic Party with a Dixiecrat brush, they’ve created this racism problem themselves and I doubt they can dig their way out of it.
There is more than a whiff of hypocrisy.
McCain's attacks ring hollow because Condi was National Sec advisory, ie. not merely reading a script, but helping to *write* it. She failed the country on 9/11 and helped spread the lies about Iraq and mushroom clouds. The Bush admin. pro-actively lied to us, lied about WMDs, about Bin Laden and Saddam being connected, lied about everything to get a war they've wanted long before 9/11 which led to the deaths of thousands of people, incl. 4500 American troops...yet we're supposed to believe that four deaths in a country going through transition, a country where the people rose up against the militias they blamed for those 4 deaths, a Libyan president apologizing to the US for those deaths, a country where they could've used more security, but the GOP voted AGAINST $$$ for security, is an impeachable offense? Get a mirror, rightwing assholes.
The GOP underestimates the public's ability to witness blatant hypocrisy. You'd think they'd realize that fact when they got their asses handed to them on election day. Quit pushing conspiracies that expose your party's bullshit and real agenda.
Opposition to Dr. Susan Rice based on performance is fair game, it's about the policies, not the sex of the person, the race of the person, or the party of the person. The sooner the GOP and the media realize this the better off our country will be.

FreeDON Siegleman Sunday #4

I urge all to click on the hyperlink below and listen to former Alabama Governor Don Siegleman's (D) 1999 inaugural speech which was  posted to Pam Miles list serve by Esther Davis. where he  discussed the importance of education in the future of Alabama. He proposed a program to provide four-year-olds with a pre-kindergarten education. He also announced the organization of an education lottery that will allow all high school graduates to go to college tuition free.

Governor Siegelman's friend and proud supporter Al McCullough writes the following;

What a reminder of why we participate and work in this arena! Don is one of the great men of Alabama who dared to lead this state toward greatness. He shared so intimately in our hopes, dreams and disappointments and never took his eye off the prize - a better life for every single one of us as a shared benefit of the bounty of our state and our society. And this better life was not something to be given us by some other or sold to us by some other but earned by each of us by equipping us with the necessary education and training to reach out and grasp that life, to participate as fully as we are each able, as we each add to our state's bounty. Don Siegelman's goal was to start this state on an upward trajectory with all sharing in a better life.
Don Siegelman is truly a man of the people. His heart was always with all of us and remains with all of us even in his persecution by little men with little minds who conspire endlessly to pervert our governments and our society with their lies and deceit. We must not allow this persecution to continue! We must stand for and demand Justice!
Yes, that Justice with a capitol letter. That is the justice Don's persecutors fear most deeply in their gut. They know that only by perverting Justice can they succeed in their corrupt lives. Lives that demand outrageous levels and amounts of secrecy. Lives that require that anyone who knows the secret practices of their deceitful actions be defamed and more than marginalized. We must pursue and demand Justice and, as a people, a society, a state and a nation, require that Justice be practiced by all in our representative government and all its agencies so that the Justice Department earns and lives up to that title. At present, after over thirty years of internal perversion that misnamed branch needs to have its title changed to the Legal Department. For legal has nothing to do with Justice in the present time. Our best lawyers and legal scholars are reduced to being legal technicians. We deserve more. We must require more. We must pursue and demand Justice and freedom for Don Siegelman!
                - Peace,  Al

It's time to for President Obama to pardon former governor Don Siegleman whose only crime was being being too liberal for Alabama.

"Is Alabama going to be left behind" because the "Alabama Democratic Party is on Life Support"?

Let me think about that for a minute........

In a recent column al.com's Joey Kennedy points out the majority of Alabama sore losers, I mean voters, proved they hate our President and democrats more than they love their country or themselves,  by sending the same old obstructionist back to Washington D.C. to put President Obama, and them there freeloaders, in their places.
So it's 11 days after the election, and some Alabama Republicans (and Republicans in other states, too, I suppose) are still firmly parked in denial. They can't believe -- gasp! -- that Barack Hussein Obama (they often use all three of the president's names, part of their birther pride) actually won re-election. These avoiders would rather have confrontation than cooperation. And it doesn't look as if the Alabama GOP is about to eject the extremists who have far too much authority in the party.
While the Alabama GOP is hunkering down and circling the wagons,  WSFA's Ken Hare notes the Alabama Democratic party is not dead, but it's on life support.
After state Democrats failed to field candidates in 10 of the 12 statewide races on the ballot on Nov. 6 and saw their candidates lose in the other two races, talk of Alabama once again being a "one-party state" -- just with Republicans in power instead of Democrats -- started being bandied about.
Why is the Alabama Democratic Party on life support you ask?  Because they insist on doing the same thing over and over again HOPING for a different result.
"We still have more than 50 percent of the elective offices in courthouses throughout the state," said Kennedy, a former associate justice of the Alabama Supreme Court.
He admitted disappointment over the party's poor showing in the election, but said he was "encouraged that we still have a lot of grassroots support." He spoke of the need to become better organized at the grassroots level, to develop "more intense messaging," and to "have a better conversation with people we know share our values."
See what I mean?  Now,  I am not the head honcho of the Alabama Democratic Party, and no one asked for my opinion but I'm going to offer my prescription for getting the Alabama Democratic Party off life support now and forever in 5 easy steps.

1.  Expel all INFILTRATORS,  paraquoting George Dubya Bush "yer either wit us or aginst us".

2.  Stop suppressing MINORITY voices.  All WHITE   is not right (pun intended).

3.  He/she who controls the MESSAGE controls the outcome. As they say in my neighborhood, talk is cheap.....just DO IT!

4.  Call out the HYPOCRISY.

5.  Elect a LEADER who is mean as a snake a likes a fight  for real, and who won't do the same thing over and over again HOPING for a different result.

On a personal note, postings will be light for the next few days as I celebrate Thanksgiving with family and friends.  I am thankful President Obama was reelected and will continue to take our country forward and not back to the days of slavery and Jim Crow, and I will pray he will not leave Alabama behind.

Peace and blessings!

Secession, the Media, Milestones, and Cults

Alabama Governor Robert Bentley (r), and Alabama Senator Richard Shelby (r) touring the tornado devastation with President Barack Obama (D)  in Tuscaloosa, Alabama following a press briefing.

Side bar with a sigh
If you look closely at the photograph attached to this diary of a VIP group walking with President Obama, I count nine individuals....Two in the front row, three in the middle row and four in the back, one of whom is barely visible as a pair of grey-trousered legs and the corner of a face. Two of them -- counting the President -- are non-white, one more may be.
The proportion of non-white persons in Alabama's population is about 29%, so 22%, or better 33%, persons of color (2 or 3 out of 9) would not be far out of line with the state population.
According to the same source, the proportion of persons in the population of Alabama who happen to be female is almost 52%. Female persons in the VIP group including President Obama: precisely zero.
Hell No they ain't fergittin!

I guess we shouldn't be surprised the reddest of the red states want to secede from the union in wake of the reelection of President Barack Hussein Obama.   Remember when CNN's Anderson Cooper and others accused Alabama State Senator Hank Sanders of race baiting when he said he didn't want to go back to the days of slavery and Jim Crow in a robo call to democratic voters in 2010?  Well, these are the same states who fought a war to keep slavery, instituted Jim Crow after they lost.  Yep, they were so sure the tried and true  southern strategy was going to work for them again.

Also, this is the same media who had people believing Mitt Romney was going to win, who enabled Bush and Dick to take us to war based on dead wrong intelligence, and house republicans to impeach President Bill Clinton for trying to conceal a consensual sex act from his wife, daughter and the country.

President Obama should handle the secessionist movement the same way my mother handled me when I decided I wanted to secede from the family unit because I didn't want to abide by the rules.  Out of the kindness of her heart she packed some of my clothes, two peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and an orange in a brown paper bag and wished me well.  I seceded down the road to my best friends house and hung out there all day, but when it started getting dark her mother told me it was time for me to head on home.  Then I remembered I'd  run away from home and didn't have any place to go for food, shelter and comfort.

So guess what I did.....I say let those who want to secede go.  They don't need a military to protect them.  Interstate highways to travel on.  Hospitals when they get sick.  Post offices to receive and deliver their mail.  Public works and sanitation.  Airports, train and bus stations.  And god forbid they have a hurricane, tornado, wild fires or a flood.  They might leave, but they will be back with a new attitude.  Trust me.

On a personal note, I can't let this day pass without noting a milestone, November 13, 2012 marks the third anniversary of the day Political Ideology Trumped Family and Friends ,and my front page privileges were revoked at leftinalabama.  It still hurts I am banned from participating in the Informed.  Involved.  Progressive. discussion at the place where it all started for me, where I dared be a voice for the voiceless.  So I will will mark this milestone the same as before, by respectfully asking my privileges be reinstated at Left in Alabama.

Cults demand their adherents break with friends and family; political parties shouldn't.

FreeDON Sunday #3

Dana Siegelman was once Alabama's first daughter, but she will always be Don's First Daughter

The media routinely shines klieg lights on the central players in legal and political scandals, people like former Alabama Governor Don Siegelman and Birmingham health-care magnate Richard Scrushy, who were convicted of bribery and other charges in 2006 and sentenced in 2007.
Less attention is paid to the friends and family members of those central players and the collateral damage they face.
Siegelman’s wife Lori, daughter Dana and son Joseph have certainly paid a heavy price for the former Democratic governor’s legal travails — facing financial problems, depression and even strained relationships with friends and family members.

RedEye's Post Election Blog Stroll

This is the Face of the Republican Party~Fist Dap to Mack Lyons who says, take a look at this face-The last time any "real" American looked this way is when the slaves were freed.

During the campaign cycle, I kept asking myself how in the heck does Romney think he's going to win without women, African Americans, labor, Hispanics, and the LBGT community? I mean there aren't that many old, rich white men/women in America, and although they tried to employ the Bush/Rove model (if you can't beat em suppress em) I knew they couldn't suppress that many people. Or could they......

Nope the media enabled, GOP infused, Tea Party just can't understand what went wrong with their plan to "take their country back" to the days of all war all the time so the rich could get richer while the rest got the shaft.  They honestly thought voters were going to fall for their b.s. and elect them??!!
There's no way anyone with even the remotest access to the internet—and its myriad polling aggregator sites—would think they were headed toward any sort of big victory. That's why conservative media worked so hard to convince their audience that the polling was "skewed". They willfully made themselves breathtakingly stupid.

The Skeptic One breaks it down:
Let's buy a vowel, shall we. The Republican Party of Lincoln is NOT the Republican Party of today. Hell, the Republican Party of today is not even the GOP of the 20th Century. The current GOP must have secretly beamed down from some alien planet that is invisibly circling our sun, or passing through our universe, because these so called Republicans have absolutely no human or recognizable conservative attributes, what so ever.
To say Republicans are sore losers is an understatement:
Ultimately, you won't learn anything. Because you're Republicans. And there's something tragically touching and almost poetically ignorant about stubbornly clinging to the anchor of your principles even as the ship sinks and everyone around you is saying to let it go and take a life preserver.

Yeah, now we to look forward to the inevitable endless investigations of meaningless things before the push for impeachment. Because you're Republicans. And that's just easier to do than actually govern.

And no, you cannot have your country back America is moving forward, with or without you.
That’s the message voters sent the Republican Party and its Tea Party wing Tuesday night when they re-elected President Obama and strengthened the Democrats’ control of the Senate.
No amount of outside money or voter suppression or fear mongering or lying — and there was a ton of each — was enough to blunt that message.

Psst President Obama, those of us who live in the reddest of the red states need your immediate attention on a number of issues.  It's been hell to pay since you were elected the first time....they are really going to get those of us who voted for you again.
The election of Barack Obama was guaranteed to have far reaching, and long lasting implications for Alabama politics. The first election of an African-American President could not be anything other than a paradigm-shifting event. On the one hand, Obama’s presence on the ballot seems to have brought out the worst in white Alabama.

"The sum of our fears" Update

University of Mississippi students riot over Obama Victory.  Presidents re election greeted with anger at deep south campus. Raw video
After Obama victory Donald Trump rants on Twitter  "This election is a total sham, we are not a democracy."
"There is a mean spirit on the lose, not only in Alabama, but in America and that's what makes this election so important." Alabama State Senator Hank Sanders (D. Selma)
"Mitt's a liar but he's still better than Obama"  Former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich (r. Georgia)

Now that the election is over, I am going to admit I was afraid, strike that, I was very afraid,  republicans were going to gain control all three branches of our government, including the Supreme Court.  Although the  media infused, GOP still controls the House of Representatives,Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, and President Obama, can keep them in check.  Hopefully they won't make it their life mission to destroy our country, and will allow President Obama the opportunity to govern he was denied in his first term.

The more things change, the more they stay the same.
"This race has been particularly difficult, because the ugly racism that still haunts this country and compels the voting choices of a majority of white people was particularly aggressive this time around. I’d say it was worse in 2008, because last time, I think conservatives simply found it implausible that Obama could win, polls aside. Now that they have proof that Americans will vote for a black President, their rage has spun out of control. After four years of conservatives trafficking in race-baiting conspiracy theories, the majority of white people are still on board with their agenda, which is beyond depressing."

I have to give republicans credit, they almost pulled it off.  All that money, all that Benghazi, "You didn't build that," the birtherism, the racial dog whistles - all for naught.

Will we the people ever form a more perfect union?

I HOPE so, but I FEAR not.
CNN exit polls showed women voting in greater numbers than men and heavily favoring Obama - in contrast with men, who preferred Romney.

This is why I vote a straight Democratic ticket

This picture shows a lynched dummy of President Obama on Bay Meadows Road, Gloucester, Virginia 23061 at a Shell Service Station.  As former democratic President Bill Clinton said at the democratic convention:
"Though I often disagreed with republicans, I actually never learned to hate them the way the far right wing who controls their party seems to hate our president and democrats. "
The reason I am voting a straight democratic ticket has nothing to do with the fact I'm a democrat, I oppose the republican party, or any party,  that encourages and condones this kind of hatred.
"What ever political party draws it's strength from these people is the party I am going to work to defeat."

WTF did Black people ever do to you America?
I guess that's why I'm taking this so personally. I don't feel like they're just attacking Obama, i feel like they're truly attacking my "tribe". What i mean by that is, He's young, educated, black, driven and in charge. That's my tribe, Most of my black male friends went to college and busted ass, they are now Ministers, Producers, Politicians and the like. When we were we all children had a choice, we could have bowed to the prevalent stereotype and become thugs and criminals. We could have met every ones lowered expectation for us. But we didn't. We bought the whole "American Dream" thing hook, line, and sinker. We were told that in America, if you work hard, study hard, play by the rules and apply yourself then you can be anything you want in this country, so we did. We were sold on the fact that very soon we'd be "judged by the content of our character and not the color of our skin", so we believed.
Were we lied to?
