Reminder: Voter Suppression isn't coming, it's already here.
Alabama voters now need to have a photo ID to cast a ballot. Not having one could get you turned away at the polls.
Poll workers will get a long list of acceptable options, but if you registered and don’t have any of them, you still have a chance. You can apply for an ID to use for voting purposes only.
You will have to provide some documentation to get the free photo ID used for voting. A birth certificate is the easiest way to do it, though you can sign up without it if you were born in-state.
But don’t you dare register for the card if you have another form of ID, though. If you sign the Voter ID Card application and you already have a photo ID, it’s a class C felony.
So Lynda Hairston with the Voter Registration Office says, ” We want you to be very careful that if you sign it, you do not have one in your possession.”
Former Republican turned Independent, turned Democrat, Charlie Crist tells the truth and shames the Devil.
I’m happy for his soul, but I’m happier that someone had the balls to say what he did about Republican opposition to President Obama. Granted, it’s coming from a calculated politician who understands that he’s not nearly crazy and bigoted enough to be a factor in the Republican Party anymore, but I appreciate it all the same.
School Board Meeting Gone Wild, First Amendment thrown out of the door, here, there, and everywhere.
Restricting access to school board meetings seems more an "intimidation" of critics than any intimidation critics may pose in recording board actions. And it's against the law.
Caught on Tape: Did Police handle this properly? (Warning hard to watch)
The video shows the officer tackling Jaquora White, 15, and then handcuffing the girl while she is seizing. Jaquora is then left on the floor for an extended period of time while the officers and school officials attempt to clear the halls. Paramedics were eventually called and Jaquora was taken to the hospital.
Out of the frying pan, into the fire?
When a school system closes public schools and replaces them by funding private organizations like The Pinnacle Schools, the people, the community, and especially the students, lose. The district, the people, lose their ability to oversee and question even extreme examples of child abuse as seen in these pictures. Why Michelle Obama joining the #BringBackOurGirls Campaign is Ridiculous
Firstly, it was absurd to see Michelle Obama holding up a sign with the #BringBackOurGirls hash tag considering that her husband, as Commander-In-Chief, oversees Seal Team 6, as well as every other elite military unit available in the world’s mightiest army. If Mrs. Obama wants to #BringBackOurGirls, then she need not hold up a sign with a sad faced frown. She should talk to her husband.Eye see you.
The DOJ said Huntsville's plan does not integrate the school system enough.Peace.
Mayor Battle disagreed, stating the DOJ's plan "actually congregates larger numbers of African-American children and underperforming children in a few schools than the plan offered by the Huntsville School Board".

Would it surprise you to know that the right to vote is not guaranteed by the constitution? Believe it or not, there is no explicit right to vote in the constitution. The 15th, 19th, and 26th amendments imply that there is a right to vote, but those amendments only protect against voting right being taken away based on race, sex, or age. There is no Federal right to vote. The right to vote is something that is defined by the states and theoretically, the states can take away the right to vote as long as it is done equally.

Would it surprise you to know the Supreme Court struck down Wisconsin's Voter ID laws on the grounds it was unconstitutional?
A federal judge struck down a Wisconsin voter ID law as unconstitutional because it imposed an unfair burden on the poor and minorities, a move that could set a precedent for other voting rights cases to be decided this election year.
The Wisconsin law, passed in 2011, required voters without ID – many of whom are minorities – to overcome large obstacles to obtain a photo ID to be able to vote, U.S. District Judge Lynn Adelman wrote in his opinion Tuesday. That violates the U.S. Constitution’s guarantee of equal protection, he said.
“It is likely that a substantial number of the 300,000-plus voters who lack a qualifying ID will be deterred from voting,” he wrote.

WOW the poor and minorities sure know have to show id when they show up at the food stamp office or the disability office why can't they produce it at the polls?
Wow, the poor and minorities do produce ID when they show up at the polls. What they don't have to produce at the food stamp office or the disability office is a government issued ID. You know, the government ID that has been ruled unconstitutional in other states.
"A state judge ruled in January that the law, passed in 2012, violated the state constitution by imposing an unreasonable burden on the right to vote. The court found no evidence the law was necessary either to prevent fraud or to keep public confidence in the fairness of the election process. "

PS: Thanks for proving the voter ID is aimed at keeping the poor and minorities from voting, which in Alabama is often one in the same.
It has nothing to do with keeping DEMOCRATS from voting. It is something that should be required to vote. There are poor Republicans also but I do not see many of them CRYING about getting an id.
Copied from the story below.
"As of March, Greene, Hale, Lowndes and Macon counties had more active, registered voters than what the census estimated as their 18-and-older population in 2012."

I will believe it's not about keeping blacks from voting when people are required to have a government issued ID card to purchase a gun.
You continue to believe what you want and continue to write stories that stirs the pot that does not need stirring!!! It is not always about holding us down!!!!
It's harder to buy a gun than vote! When you buy a gun you go through a back ground check!
How do the people crying about having ID to vote do simple tasks like write a check, sign of for Government assistance, buy alcohol, get into a rated r movie etc etc etc but yet they cry that you need ID to vote...lol
No it's about requiring a special government ID to vote but not to buy a gun. It's about making it harder for some people to vote. It's about passing laws that are unconstitutional. EYE will continue to write about what EYE want to write about because this is RedEye's blog. You keep pretending to be something/one you are not.
For the record no one is crying about needing an ID to vote. It's about needing a special, government issued ID to vote. Which has been ruled unconstitutional.
what about just showing a state id or drivers license? That is EASY enough that anyone who complains is only doing it to stir the pot! Again what do these people who complain use when they write a check, sign up for Government assistance, buy beer, go to a club, go to a rated r movie etc etc etc??!!!!
No, it's not ID's that have been ruled unconstitutional. The implementation has been ruled unconstitutional.
South Carolina's voter ID law has been ruled as constitutional and been allowed for elections after 2012 and it took effect as of January 1st, 2013.
Alabama, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Michigan, Mississippi, New Hampshire, Oklahoma, and Tennessee all have active voter ID laws that require photos that are active. I can't find any evidence that Alabama's law is being challenged.
I don't recall saying Alabama's law is being challenged, but that doesn't mean that the implementation of voter ID shouldn't be challenged. But hey, this is Sweet Home Alabama, the home of segregation today, segregation tomorrow, and segregation forever.
"Suppressing the black vote…an American tradition since 1778."
If you think Alabama is segregated, just wait til you see how segregated the liberal/democrat New York State is. Sweet Home Alabama isn't the home of segregation. It's New York. There is a lot of evidence that Democratic policies on desegregation are not working. You can say it's Republican opposition is the reason, but there are plenty examples of places were there is no Republican opposition, and they still don't work, so maybe it's not the Republican opposition.
“In the 30 years I have been researching schools, New York State has consistently been one of the most segregated states in the nation--‐--‐no Southern state comes close to New York,” commented CRP Co--‐Director Gary Orfield.
“Contrary to many claims, the South has not gone back to the level of segregation before Brown. It has lost all of the additional progress made after l967 but is still the least segregated region for black students,” says the report, released Thursday by researchers at UCLA’s Civil Rights Project.
New York and California don't require a special government issued ID Card to vote.
