See, Eye told you black folks don't have 2nd Amendment rights in the USA

You know the drill.  Take a snippet out of context and spin it like a top.

Breitbart News is reporting that Georgia Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC) President Sam Mosteller has been suspended from the organization following his call for Black families to “exercise their Second Amendment rights” by arming themselves against police.

There's just one little problem, Sam Mosteller didn't call for Black families to "exercise their Second Amendment rights by arming themselves against the police.  THIS is what he actually said.

  “We’re going to have do something in our community to let the rest of America know that we are not going to be victimized by just anybody whether it be police or folks that decide that Black people are thugs and we need to control the Black community.”
He goes on to say, “You know, the SCLC stands for nonviolence, but nonviolence hasn’t worked in this instance. You stand there, (police) shoot. You run, they shoot. We’re going to have to take a different tack. Nobody is protecting the Black community! I am going to advocate, at this point, that all African-Americans advocate their 2nd Amendment rights.” In addition to calling on families to arm themselves, Mosteller is also organizing recalls of the sheriffs of all counties where unarmed Black people have been shot by police.

Mosteller is calling for black folks to exercise their Second Amendment right to protect themselves FROM the police,  not AGAINST the police.  Words matter.   And what is wrong with African Americans exercising their rights?  There is no out cry when whites exercise their right to protect themselves.

Gun sales in and around Ferguson, Missouri, have soared in recent weeks, as the city waits to find out whether a local police officer will be indicted for shooting an unarmed teenager in August, according to CNN. A grand jury investigation into the death of 18-year-old Michael Brown is expected to reveal its findings sometime this month, putting many residents who fear riots in the  wake of the ruling on edge. Some gun shops near Ferguson have seen gun sales double or even triple in recent days, local radio reported.  
“This is very abnormal,” Steven King, of gun retailer Metro Shooting Supplies in nearby Bridgeton, told KMOV News radio. “With all the rumors on the Internet, they are saying every neighborhood is unsafe, there is a possibility of a strike in any neighborhood.”

Despite public opinion to the contrary blacks have a long tradition of taking up arms to defend themselves of racial violence. 

“active self-defense against violence,” is a tradition that developed alongside nonviolent resistance, and that “even before slavery had been outlawed, Black Americans took up arms when their lives and livelihoods were threatened.”

Well we can't have black folks defending themselves when their lives and livelihoods are threatened in America. 

The historical record provides compelling evidence that racism underlies gun control laws -- and not in any subtle way. Throughout much of American history, gun control was openly stated as a method for keeping blacks and Hispanics "in their place," and to quiet the racial fears of whites.

So there you have it, if we want comprehensive gun control laws all black folks have to do is start exercising their Second Amendment rights....

If supporters of the right to keep and bear arms want their pleas to be heard in their proper context, they might consider talking a little less about Valley Forge and a little more about Jim Crow — and attempting to fill their ranks with people who have known much more recently what tyranny really looks like.

The righties have their panties in a wad because Melissa Harris-Perry dared voice her opinion on a photo of Mitt Romney, the man of the 2%, holding one of his kid’s adopted black baby. 

Some (not to be confused with all) democrats/liberals/lefty's jump on the bandwagon accusing MHP of insulting Mitt Romney's Black Grandchild.

Melissa Harris Perry apologized, as liberals are wont to do after right wing persecution takes hold of the media’s endless pity and blind spots. But she never personally attacked the grandchild, and it’s obtuse to pretend that no one gets how absurd it is that the man who ran one of the biggest race-baiting races in history has an adopted black grandchild. It reeks of blind privilege and a failure to connect the dots.
You see, a rich black baby will not have the same experiences as the majority of black people in this country. It’s not about color. It’s about privilege. The privilege that comes with white skin growing up in one of the wealthiest counties in the nation as Mitt and his wife did.

The media enabled GOP propaganda machine wins again.

Oh My God. Seriously? No one called the baby a thing. One person sung one line of a SONG. Those are the words of that Sesame Street song. The other panelist said the picture represented the diversity of the Republican party. The RNC did a whole autopsy about how Republicans need to do better reaching out different communities after the 2012 losses. Melissa herself only said the baby was gorgeous and she wanted to see the wedding between him and Kanye West and Kim Kardashian's baby in another twenty years.

this adoption is a political act. it is designed to appeal to black america to vote for the republican party in upcoming elections. the baby is a sacrifice on the altar of racism. i hope black people don't fall for this crude, unequivocal act of black exploitation.
it is cultural suicide to let the romneys take that black child into that social milieu of morons and republicanism, both institutions that are well known for their racism.
i strongly object to it. i don't think MHP has anything to apologize for. unless she thinks she will lose her lucrative TV spot.

So many here, are responding to what they think was said, not what was actually said. Why don't you try reading it:

Laughter erupts.
“And isn’t he the most gorgeous?” Harris-Perry responded in an attempt to divert from Glenn’s impromptu song. “My goal is that in 2040, the biggest thing of the year will be the wedding between Kieran Romney and North West. Can you imagine Mitt Romney and Kanye West as in-laws?”Comedian Dean Obeidallah had already taken the ball and run with it though: “I think this picture is great,” he said. “It really sums up the diversity of the Republican party, the RNC. At the convention, they find the one Black person.”

Call me cynical, but could this be a media-enabled weapon of mass distraction from the real insult to LBGT's, African Americans, and women?

The Shirley Sherroding of Rep. Joe Mitchell (D. Mobile)~Edit

Here we go again....you know the drill....leak an email exchange between Rep. Joe Mitchell and a constituent about gun control to the press and Viola!.... The media enabled spin from substance to rhetoric is in!  Instead of talking about gun control and our constitution we are talking about racial rhetoric.  Sigh

Let's recap.  Retired coal miner and Jefferson County resident Eddie Maxwell sent a mass email to all Alabama Legislators "warning them that even attempting to introduce a gun control bill was, in his opinion, a violation of state law."  Oh really?     
  
Instead of ignoring Maxwell's email, or, sending out the standard thank you for contacting my office blah, blah, blab, blab  auto reply, Rep. Mitchell chose to exercise his first amendment right and respond in the following manner; "Your folk never used all this sheit (sic) to protect my folk from your slave-holding, murdering, adulterous, baby-raping, incestuous, snaggle-toothed, backward-a**ed, inbreed (sic), imported criminal-minded kin folk."

It is unfortunate Rep. Mitchell chose to respond in this manner because the point he was trying to make got lost in the rhetoric.   Call me cynical, but could the reason the media won't let us have a conversation about gun laws is because they like massacres for ratings? 

Now don't get me wrong, I am not condoning Rep. Mitchell's response, but I understand where he is coming from.

Copies of the email exchange were provided to AL.com by state lawmakers who were included in the correspondence. The emails are printed below, edited only to remove the specific addresses.
Mitchell, who is black, did not respond to email and telephone messages from AL.com seeking comment this week. He told the Associated Press today that he was explaining that citizens who descended from slaves and were disenfranchised by the state constitution have a different view of history and the constitution than white citizens.

So, now we have the Alabama Democratic Party,  some democrats, and  some democratic lawmakers falling over themselves disowning Rep. Mitchell, and Mobile republicans calling for his resignation over the racially charged email.  And who wins if Rep. Mitchell resigns?  Not the people who elected him, that's for sure.

• During an intense debate over the public display of the 10 Commandments in 2004, Mitchell walked to a state House window, stuck his head outside and yelled, "Mitchell calling Earth."
• During a heated debate over same-sex marriage in 2005, Mitchell threw conservatives for a loop when he introduced an amendment that would have banned divorce and another that would have made adultery a crime. Both proposals failed, but not before Mitchell made his point that they ought to be supported by a legislative body bent on "protecting the sanctity of marriage."
• Mitchell donned a gas mask on the floor of the state House last year in protest of Alabama’s controversial immigration law. “This bill stinks,” Mitchell said, when asked about the stunt .

I expect republicans to make hay out of Mitchell's response  and some even trying equate them with Rep. Scott Beason's (r. Gardendale) Aborigine remarks for partisan political gain, but it troubles me when democrats fall for the media enabled weapon of mass distraction.  It's about gun violence control, not racial rhetoric.

It is also troubling to me that the same people who reject Rep. Mitchell's response applaud Alabama Democratic Party Chair Judge Mark Kennedy for emasculating  Alabama Democratic Party Vice Chairman Dr. Joe Reed on his facebook page.

It's impossible to have a unified party when the party is not unified.  Is the Alabama Democratic Party trying to return to it's roots?  Will the republican party take advantage of this rift and return to it's roots?

Time will tell the truth.
