In its despair and confusion, a large segment of the American populace is prepared to believe anything it’s told, in part because we are a country less and less educated, increasingly unable to tell fact from fiction because we are so unschooled in basic essential knowledge about America and the world.

What you sow.. 

Donald Trump is standing on a platform of hate that the Republican Party built for him.
Trump’s proposal to bar Muslims from entering this country is hateful, despicable and vile. His statement is a slap in the face to the millions of peace-loving Muslims living here and to those who want to travel and live here.
This sort of racism has been prevalent in Republican politics for decades. Trump is just saying out loud what other Republicans merely suggest.

This is who and what they are. 

This is how ALL blacks were transformed into welfare recipients, a whole group of people looking for handouts, although that was a myth. Nope, I take that back it was an outright lie! Images of black women was the old “welfare queen” trick used by Ronald Reagan to drum up negative opinions and attack black women, attaching a negative stigma to them in the process. But more so Reagan used it to stir up negative sentiments towards poor people, which resulted in selfishness and cold heartedness in the charity department. Yup, they want to eliminate help for the poor. It works every time.

Is this who they will always be?

Cooper asked Sanders what evidence he had that the Republican opponents would take Alabama back to Jim Crow days. Sanders said, "Well, there's a certain mean spiritness that's out there, not only in Alabama but it's in America. And that makes this election extremely important."

Let's recap:

The city of Huntsville is standing by their assertion the air is "safe to breathe" at the location of the new, illegally named, Ronald McNair Middle / Mae Jemison High School despite it's close proximity to an active rock quarry.

Mayor Tommy Battle and the city's air quality chief, Danny Shea, both say the amount of particulate matter in the air on Pulaski Pike is far below levels considered potentially harmful by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
The city has an air quality monitoring station next door to the school site; Shea said it measures airborne particulate matter every six days.
The EPA threshold for particulate matter is 150 micrograms per cubic meter.
Shea said 46 micrograms is the highest reading detected by the city on Pulaski Pike in the past five years. The average particulate concentration was 14.8 micrograms in 2009; 17.8 micrograms in 2010; 16.3 micrograms in 2011; 14.9 micrograms in 2012; and 13.5 micrograms in 2013.
The levels are similar at Huntsville's other air quality monitoring stations on Airport Road, South Memorial Parkway and Madison Street downtown.
In a May 27 letter to the mayor, Shea said the city's measurements "demonstrate the absence of substantial adverse air quality impacts from quarry operations at the proposed school site."

That's strange because the current President of the Huntsville City Council was among a very vocal and prominent group of people who protested Vulcan Materials operating an active rock quarry less than two miles from schools in Gurley, Hampton Cove and McMullen Cove in Gurley Mountain.

Other elected officials speaking against the quarry were Mark Russell, president of Huntsville City Council, Madison County District 3 Commissioner Eddie Sisk, state Sen. Paul Sanford, state Sen. Shadrack McGill, state Rep. Wayne Johnson, Gurley Mayor Rob Sentell, Gurley Councilman Robert Wren.
Their concerns addressed environmental quality of Flint River and Hayes Nature Preserve, unsafe traffic with trucks crossing Norfolk Southern Railroad along a curve, heavy trucks sharing roads with school buses, air quality at two nearby schools and a lack of local governmental control of the quarry operation.

The group has asked the city to earmark $250,000 for a health risk assessment study  A study that should have been conducted before the land was purchased, and ground broken.  The  Huntsville City Council voted to spend 3 million dollars to land Alabama's first Cabela's outdoor superstore, and 47 k to hire a firm out of LasVegas to conduct a feasibility study for high speed Internet service,  the least they can do is invest in a health risk assessment before the school is built to make it will be safe for students, faculty, and staff to occupy.  The city is asking concerned citizens to trust the expert,concerned citizens are asking for verification in return for their trust.

Graze King: From Welfare Queens to Simple Scofflaws

What a day April 15th was!

First, of course, it's the day we settle up with Uncle Sam. And for anyone who procrastinated, you bad. You got penalties now.

Critics of the Affordable Care Act call it welfare. You know, like the fraudster reportedly zipping around in her Caddie. She rollin' ya know?

That description of the fictional "welfare queen" was first used by President Ronald Reagan.

But this week, another of President Reagan's legacies sprang into the forefront of national politics. It might be termed "Crazed Graze King."

President Obama, and/or one of his cabinet members, prudently decided to spare our nation and world of the debacle of massacring "women in front" over a 20 year old range fight. Stagecraft.

And the rumor mill can stop spinning: it has nothing to do with Harry Reid and cattle and solar.

There has been drumming and singing outside of Nelson Mandela's home every since his passing.  It is the African way! In music the drum represents the heart beat....song represents the breath of life, a fitting tribute.

From the dancing and singing, people are expressing their celebration of a life but also keep a spirit alive – a spirit of hope and reconciliation.

Par for the course when an African American leader dies the mainstream media counts on us having collective, cultural amnesia as they  whitewash (pun intended) how republicans really felt about Nelson Mandela, what he stood for, and why Nelson Mandela was imprisoned for 27years.

Mandela was a political activist and agitator. He did not shy away from controversy and he did not seek — or obtain — universal approval. Before and after his release from prison, he embraced an unabashedly progressive and provocative platform. As one commentator put it shortly after the announcement of the freedom fighter’s death, “Mandela will never, ever be your minstrel. Over the next few days you will try so, so hard to make him something he was not, and you will fail. You will try to smooth him, to sandblast him, to take away his Malcolm X. You will try to hide his anger from view.”

I almost feel sorry for Ted Cruz who got trashed by his fan base for having the nerve to pay tribute to Nelson Mandela on  face book.  Bill O'Riellly and the other Lords of Loud won't make the same mistake.

While Senator Cruz appears to be taking the high road for once in his political life, his Facebook commenters would not let the Tea Party favorite get away with stepping out of their pure ideological line.  Praising Mandela was a step too far for Cruz fans and the ugliness, historical inaccuracies, and racism in the comments on the post should serve as an illustration that the tea party as a serious political entity has jumped the shark.

The GOP infused, media enabled, Tea Party has been planning the government shutdown since last year.  They knew they could count on the Suckers from the Gerrymandered districts to waive their right to have access to quality, affordable, healthcare, while waiving their Confederate Flags.  Republicans take Soreloserdom to a different level.  I wish the democrats had closed down the government until all the votes in Florida were counted in 2001.

The "Welfare Queen", The "Homeless by Choice" Reagan's Toxic Legacy

You remember the Welfare Queen, don't you? The welfare queen stereotype (circa 1976) is a picture that some whites still have in their heads about black women.
The Welfare Queen lived very comfortably (after all, she had 35 different IDs and 35 monthly checks from welfare, plus child support), and raised her many children without a husband or partner.  All of the children had different fathers.  The pervasive stereotype was that black women are unwilling to work, unwilling to control our insatiable sexual appetites, and unwilling to better ourselves (because the world, or the federal government to be precise, owes us a living). 

“You and other journalists have a real shortcoming in that you are trying so hard to be fair that you are unfair,” Reid said. “Democrats have had almost nothing to do with the problems here. It’s all Republicans.”

Preview of the Debate in the Mouth of the Rat

Isn't it ironic the last Presidential Debate between former Governor Willard Mitt Romney and President Barack Hussein Obama will take place in affluent Boca Raton , FL, which means Mouth of the Rat, with an emphasis on foreign policy?

These debates have taught me one thing.  In the eyes of the debate organizers and most of the viewers, the plight of Big Bird is far more important than the plight of my people.

Boca Raton, FL is where Romney was caught on tape at a $50,000 dollar a plate fundraiser making his infamous 47% of voters will vote for President Obama no matter what because they are dependent on government, feel entitled and pay no taxes remarks.

Senator Harry Reid (D. NV) says he has it on pretty good authority Romney is the one who feel entitled and paid no taxes for ten year,  but we will never know, because he won't release his tax returns.

Yes, the man who won't release his tax returns because he's afraid of what Obama will say is barking at the moon, playing the big man on campus in yet another transparent attempt to paint himself as Reagan and Obama as Carter.

Taking a play out of the Reagan vs Carter political playbook, republicans are using current crisis in Libya to paint President Obama as weak on foreign policy.

And, they can't stand they have nominated a clown with no foreign policy experience whatsoever, and who chose as his running mate a man stupid enough to say 'voting to send men to war' qualified as foreign policy experience.

Do you remember republican outrage from republicans over Katrina?

Me neither.

Dred Scott, Bush v. Gore and now this

Vincent Bugliosi called them the Felonious Five after the 5-4 Bush v. Gore ruling. I call them the Bush Sr. and Bush Jr. Five. The 5-4 decision to grant corporations citizenship rights is right up there with the Dred Scott decision and the Bush v. Gore decision. Both were wrong and had lasting negative impacts on our country.

Dr. Boyce Watkins says the Supreme Court has sold out the American people and the 5-4 decision saying corporations had the same rights as human beings are the teabaggers worst nightmare come to life since they're always hollering about taking their country back. I wonder if they are going to try and take their country back from the corporations?

The Supreme Court has weakened the knees of politicians who are already manipulated heavily by corporate America. No elected official in his or her right mind is going to support any initiative that votes against corporate interests. America just took a double dose of Capitalism 101, and as a professor of finance, I seriously wonder if our nation understands how unfettered capitalism will ultimately destroy a society.

And we thought republicans didn't want any of them there "activist" judges making up laws and stuff.

Let this be a lesson for voters. The President has the power and authority to appoint Supreme Court justices for life. We can thank Ronald Reagan (r.CA),George H. Walker(r.TX), and his son George W. Bush(r.TX) for this court and this ruling. Remember that when election times come around. You're not electing a President, you're electing a Supreme Court. For life.
