#WarOnWhites my Donkey

The Ghost of #MikeBrown: why must a dead black child defend his right to life?
Why was he in the police car?, people will ask. Why did he run? If he’d just been a pliant enough, wouldn’t he still be alive?!
Brown’s prosecutors in the court of public opinion will nonetheless demand he defend himself against these charges because he was a black teenager. His killer will remain presumed innocent. But for Mike Brown, there was a collective presumption of his guilt by the Ferguson police ... and that of the Ferguson citizens who gathered to air their grievances about the shooting long before any rioting started – and the timing of this is important. As a St Louis community activist who talked to me on Monday put it, he knew something was amiss when the police stationed K-9 units at the protest at 9am protest on Sunday.
#IfTheyGunnedMeDown  It's the white, male, dominated media driven racial stereotypes.
The hashtag demonstrates that the narrative the media continues to portray regarding black people isn’t always truthful.

I don't support the looting and violence in #Ferguson, but I understand the looting and violence in #Ferguson
It is that deep irrational fear of young black men that continues to sit with me.  Here’s the thing: I do not believe that most white people see black people and say, “I hate black people.”  Racism is not that tangible, that explicit. I do not believe most white people hate most black people. I do not believe that most police officers seek to do harm or consciously hate black people. At least I hope they don’t.
Riots make news in #Ferguson but not the peaceful protest.

A better question: did his momma drop him on his head as a newborn?

This is domestic terrorism.

The protest in Ferguson even before the looting were not peaceful. They were blocking the streets, they were disrupting the peace. There are pictures of the protesters getting onto peoples cars. The police are expected to maintain the peace.

Sunday night, the disruption of the peace was taken to another level with businesses being broken into and at least one of them burned down. What were the police to do? Stand down? How many people are now too scared to go out due to the actions of the "protestors"?

If somebody asked "Does your mother like you?" or "did his momma drop him on his head as a newborn?" towards somebody you like, would you delete that comment?

Yes she does but I am not sure if I was dropped on my head but if so and it caused me to be realistic about issues then I am glad I was dropped on my head.

Why has Al, Jessie or Louis come to Huntsville to protest all the shootings we have had or the death of the innocent black female shot by a black male? Oh wait is it because the shooter was not a cop or because he is not any race but black? This goes on all day every day in America but these "so called" black leaders and people like you and Mack don't hold marches or protest but when the old black man was pulled out of his car by Huntsville Police we all rallied but yet when the handcuffed WHITE MAN was pulled out of a patrol car and beaten severely we all remained ....SILENT! WHY?

Brian, people have the right to protest in the United States of America, or least some people have the right to protest in the United States of the America. Tanks, dogs, and police in riot gear were never at a Tea Party protest, or an open carry protest. For all we know the ones committing the looting and violence are paid provocateurs, to serve as a weapon of mass distraction from the real issue, which is the shooting of an unarmed black teen by those who are sworn to protect and serve everyone.

How often do tea party/open carry protests do the protesters block streets? How often do tea party/open carry protests does vandalism of property occur (note the "Fuck the Police" graffiti on the mailbox in the 1st tweet you posted)?

Yes people have the right to protest, but when the peace is disturbed, the police have the job of restoring it. Blocking traffic, blocking a street without getting permission first is disturbing the peace. Had they gotten a permit that would have allowed them to close that street first, then it would have been a peaceful protest. The looters may have been paid provocateurs (but where is the evidence for that?), but there was plenty of calls for violence and looting.

Not sure why dogs were out on Sunday. Might it have been overkill then, yes. I didn't see any evidence of the riot gear used on Sunday before the riots occurred that evening. After that, there was reason to believe that it was needed. The only picture of Tanks that was shown to be a hoax.

Where are you getting all of your misinformation from Brian? Let me guess, Fox News, Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, and the other Lords of Loud, right?

Redeye said...

FACTS not FICTION
Law enforcement officers lobbed tear gas canisters and shot rubber bullets at enraged protesters who refused to clear the street.

“I’ve never in my life seen anything like this,” said Eric Crawford, 25, who was caught by a volley of tear gas. “You’ve got people who are standing in their front yards getting shot with tear gas - in their front yards, at their own houses.”

Some residents stood down police dogs, armored vehicles and pointed guns while chanting, “we’re unarmed don’t shoot.”

What misinformation? You are saying I am getting misinformation but you don't correct anything I said. You're follow-up post doesn't contradict anything I said.

You're own comment shows that the protesters were ignoring police commands. "Law enforcement officers lobbed tear gas canisters and shot rubber bullets at enraged protesters who refused to clear the street."

And nope, I don't watch Fox News, I don't watch or listen to Sean Hannity. I do listen to Rush Limbaugh, but it's background noise, rarely do I recall anything I hear on his show.

All my information is coming from either social media sources on site or local news (TV or print).

You don't shoot people for refusing to clear the streets in the United States of America. Or least that is how is used to be in the land of the free and the home of the brave.

There is sooo much misinformation about the Ferguson shooting, it is mind blowing. People have reported that the KKK have shown up.

There is even a lot of misinformation about Limbaugh. Media Matters & The Washington Times is saying that Limbaugh said that Robin Williams committed suicide because of William's "leftist world view" when Limbaugh did not say that and the transcript from his show yesterday back that up.

"Today's highly-militarized law enforcement are the runaway slave patrols of the new millennium - if they're not busy funneling a growing number of able-bodied black men and women into the prison-industrial complex and the permanent underclassery that it entails, they're busy with displays like these.Walking around in full military-surplus gear. Firing tear gas into private homes. Aiming AR-15s at innocent passersby."

Police used non-lethal methods to try to restore the peace. What should they have done? Let people keep breaking the law?

Redeye said...

It is not against the law for black people to protest in the United States of America. Or at least it didn't use to be against the law for black people to protest in the land of the free and the home of the brave.

Brian said...

And many right-wing personalities have been against the militarization of the local law enforcement. Chris Plant's shows (WVNN 9-11) yesterday and today spent most of the time talking about that, questioning why police departments need military gear. Dana Loesch has been speaking out against the militarization of law enforcement on her show.

Brian said...

It's not against the law to protest. But it is against the law to block the right of way on public streets. It is against the law to ignore lawful orders from police officers.

You want to know the key difference between the protests in Ferguson and Tea Party/Open Carry protests? The Tea Party/Open Carry groups get permits and permission to do what they do BEFORE they do it.

I must have missed the part of that article where the NY Times said there is a War on Blacks.

Redeye said...

The NY Times article didn't say there is a #WarOnBlacks

Journalists encountered a threatening response from police as they tried to cover the protests in Ferguson, the Missouri town that has been upended by the police killing of Michael Brown, an unarmed black teenager.

While there was a spate of looting on Sunday night, Monday's demonstrations were peaceful. Protestors faced tear gas and rubber bullets from officers trying to break their ranks up. At the same time, police told local media to get out of the area.

The protests, by most reports, are peaceful during the day, but once night comes they are no longer peaceful.

And there are media reports that describe the protesters Monday night throwing rocks at officers.

Tuesday night, reports are that the protesters were supposed to disperse at 5:30pm so the street could open back up to traffic but the protesters refuse to disperse ignore the requests of the organizers to move on.

Even Wednesday, protesters were ignoring calls from the community to disperse at sundown.

Sharon Golliday Wednesday afternoon implored the young men gathered on the sun-baked parking lot of the burned out Ferguson QuikTrip to leave the premises by evening.

"I don't want to see any of you hurt," said Golliday, a self-described "peace mother" from the Bethesda Temple Church in Ferguson. "I don't want to see any of you go to jail. Please leave by 7:30 — that's the right thing to do. Don't give the police the satisfaction of making yourselves targets tonight."

The young men listened politely while simultaneously rejecting her plea.

"She has her opinion, I have my opinion. Everybody has their own opinions," said Darris Ford, 24. "But we're not leaving."

Riddle me this Brian: Why would protestors throw rocks at police with guns, tanks, tear gas, and dogs?

Until and unless the city council declares a curfew, black people can be outside after dark.

Brian said...

Yes, they can be out. But try blocking University Drive, block Memorial Parkway, block any street without permission and see what happens.

On Tuesday, the protesters had permission to block the street until 5:30pm so that the street could be reopened to traffic. The march's organizers asked the protesters to let the street be reopened, but the protesters refused.

It is a shame that Mike Brown was murdered. But two wrongs don't make a right. If the protesters did not go too far and break the law, there would be no reason for the police to do what they are doing. But the protesters have gone too far. The burning of the convenience store was going too far. Blocking streets is going too far. And yes, when the idiots out in Arizona block the roads with their "checkpoints", they were wrong as well. Throwing rocks, bottles, and Molotov cocktails at police is taking it too far.

The police have a duty to restore the peace. Have they gone too far in trying to do so? Most likely. But as long as there is unrest, they do have a duty to combat it. The police can order people to disperse from public places if they are disrupting the peace.

Redeye said...

The protestors didn't go too far and break the law, and even if they did they didn't deserve to be met with military action. The police are the ones disturbing the peace IMHO.

Brian said...

What turns it from a police action to military action? Riot Gear/Body Armor? Tear Gas? Assault Weapons? Specialized Vehicles? Was it their tactics? Were they using lethal force on the protesters?

Redeye said...

"Washington has incentivized the militarization of local police precincts by using federal dollars to help municipal governments build what are essentially small armies—where police departments compete to acquire military gear that goes far beyond what most of Americans think of as law enforcement,"
