You know the drill.  Take a snippet out of context and spin it like a top.

Breitbart News is reporting that Georgia Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC) President Sam Mosteller has been suspended from the organization following his call for Black families to “exercise their Second Amendment rights” by arming themselves against police.

There's just one little problem, Sam Mosteller didn't call for Black families to "exercise their Second Amendment rights by arming themselves against the police.  THIS is what he actually said.

  “We’re going to have do something in our community to let the rest of America know that we are not going to be victimized by just anybody whether it be police or folks that decide that Black people are thugs and we need to control the Black community.”
He goes on to say, “You know, the SCLC stands for nonviolence, but nonviolence hasn’t worked in this instance. You stand there, (police) shoot. You run, they shoot. We’re going to have to take a different tack. Nobody is protecting the Black community! I am going to advocate, at this point, that all African-Americans advocate their 2nd Amendment rights.” In addition to calling on families to arm themselves, Mosteller is also organizing recalls of the sheriffs of all counties where unarmed Black people have been shot by police.

Mosteller is calling for black folks to exercise their Second Amendment right to protect themselves FROM the police,  not AGAINST the police.  Words matter.   And what is wrong with African Americans exercising their rights?  There is no out cry when whites exercise their right to protect themselves.

Gun sales in and around Ferguson, Missouri, have soared in recent weeks, as the city waits to find out whether a local police officer will be indicted for shooting an unarmed teenager in August, according to CNN. A grand jury investigation into the death of 18-year-old Michael Brown is expected to reveal its findings sometime this month, putting many residents who fear riots in the  wake of the ruling on edge. Some gun shops near Ferguson have seen gun sales double or even triple in recent days, local radio reported.  
“This is very abnormal,” Steven King, of gun retailer Metro Shooting Supplies in nearby Bridgeton, told KMOV News radio. “With all the rumors on the Internet, they are saying every neighborhood is unsafe, there is a possibility of a strike in any neighborhood.”

Despite public opinion to the contrary blacks have a long tradition of taking up arms to defend themselves of racial violence. 

“active self-defense against violence,” is a tradition that developed alongside nonviolent resistance, and that “even before slavery had been outlawed, Black Americans took up arms when their lives and livelihoods were threatened.”

Well we can't have black folks defending themselves when their lives and livelihoods are threatened in America. 

The historical record provides compelling evidence that racism underlies gun control laws -- and not in any subtle way. Throughout much of American history, gun control was openly stated as a method for keeping blacks and Hispanics "in their place," and to quiet the racial fears of whites.

So there you have it, if we want comprehensive gun control laws all black folks have to do is start exercising their Second Amendment rights....

If supporters of the right to keep and bear arms want their pleas to be heard in their proper context, they might consider talking a little less about Valley Forge and a little more about Jim Crow — and attempting to fill their ranks with people who have known much more recently what tyranny really looks like.

Some (not to be confused with all) democrats/liberals/lefty's jump on the bandwagon accusing MHP of insulting Mitt Romney's Black Grandchild.

Melissa Harris Perry apologized, as liberals are wont to do after right wing persecution takes hold of the media’s endless pity and blind spots. But she never personally attacked the grandchild, and it’s obtuse to pretend that no one gets how absurd it is that the man who ran one of the biggest race-baiting races in history has an adopted black grandchild. It reeks of blind privilege and a failure to connect the dots.
You see, a rich black baby will not have the same experiences as the majority of black people in this country. It’s not about color. It’s about privilege. The privilege that comes with white skin growing up in one of the wealthiest counties in the nation as Mitt and his wife did.

Oh My God. Seriously? No one called the baby a thing. One person sung one line of a SONG. Those are the words of that Sesame Street song. The other panelist said the picture represented the diversity of the Republican party. The RNC did a whole autopsy about how Republicans need to do better reaching out different communities after the 2012 losses. Melissa herself only said the baby was gorgeous and she wanted to see the wedding between him and Kanye West and Kim Kardashian's baby in another twenty years.

Breaking-The Shirley Sherroding of Ron Sparks Continues~Sigh

Thanks to Rep. Artur Davis' role in helping to pick federal nominees for the Obama administration, The Obama Justice Department, staffed by leftovers from the Bush administration, swooped in this morning and arrested casino owners, Alabama state legislators and lobbyists in what is being billed as a federal political corruption investigation, but looks more like political prosecutions designed to taint the upcoming Nov. 2 election.

What shocks me, even more, is that Ron Sparks wasn't indicted as well. Milton McGregor is Sparks' biggest donor.

It's a sad day for liberty and justice for all;

“Anyone who loves democracy and freedom should be concerned with the timing of these indictments,” he said. “Waiting to announce indictments after the election would have had no impact on the cause of justice. It is now official, everyone running for office in Alabama is a conservative, including Democrat Ron Sparks.

The writer makes this conclusion by taking a snippet Ron Sparks response to the charge by his opponent he is the most liberal candidate in the governors' race like that's a bad thing, but I digress.

"I'm conservative," Sparks said. "I'd like to know one thing that I've done to consider me the most liberal in the history of this state. I’ve created jobs, I'm fiscally responsible and I’ve helped business, helped consumers."

The writer further concludes Ron Sparks is saying liberals don't create jobs, are not fiscally responsible, don't help businesses and consumers and accuses him of being unwilling to challenge conservative framing.

In CONTEXT that is exactly what Ron Sparks said.
Without preamble, Bentley applied the “L” word to his Democratic opponent, an unflattering reference in conservative Alabama. “I’m running against the most liberal Democratic candidate that’s ever run for governor,” Bentley said.

Bentley went on to label himself as an abortion foe who opposes illegal immigration. And the retired Tuscaloosa physician said he opposes nationalized health care, while “my opponent favors it.”

“I believe in state sovereignty,” while Sparks does not Bentley charged.

In a race that pretty much has avoided personal attacks, Bentley’s reference to Sparks ratcheted up the rhetoric and prompted a reply from the two-term agriculture commissioner from Fort Payne.

“I’m conservative,” Sparks said. “I’d like to know one thing that I’ve done to consider me the most liberal in the history of this state. I’ve created jobs, I’m fiscally responsible and I’ve helped business, helped consumers.”

Sparks said Bentley’s campaign is about “rhetoric, sound bites, and gimmicks.”

“If I didn’t have a plan I’d be saying that, too,” Sparks said last week. “There’s not one thing you hear in one of his speeches, that ‘I’m going to move Alabama forward, I’m going to educate children and build highways.’ ”

The headline in Bentley's hometown paper reads; Governor's race leader is Bentley, polls show, Who are they polling the anti-abortion rights, anti-immigration, anti-Obama voters, anti health care, anti-public education voters? Yep.

The Bentley camp is counting on the segment of uninformed/misinformed voters who hate "liberals" more than they love themselves. That is the only possible explanation why they are supporting a candidate who has access to health care, who has an education, whose wife/daughter/sister/niece can afford to choose to have a safe, legal abortion, but doesn't want them to have the same. As Mister T used to say "I pity the fools."

Bentley went on to label himself as an abortion foe who opposes illegal immigration. And the retired Tuscaloosa physician said he opposes nationalized health care, while “my opponent favors it.”

Dr. Robert Bentley is the only real conservative in the Governor's race;

Bentley is a 67-year-old retired dermatologist and two-term state representative who emerged from the back bench in the House, where his party is in the minority, to become the front runner in the governor’s race.

He stumbled briefly earlier in the campaign when one of his ads nearly claimed he was a Vietnam veteran. In fact, he served stateside during the Vietnam War as a young physician in North Carolina. Sparks is a Coast Guard veteran.

Bentley said he is not a Tea Party member but has unwavering views about government’s role. Translation- He is not a member of the Tea Party but he agrees with them. Shades of Mo Brooks.

“I want government to get out of the way,” he said. Translation-I'm running to be the government of Alabama so I can get out of the way.

Wake up and smell the coffee people!

“He needs to be more specific on solutions because what’s going to happen is we have a tremendous budget failure and we have to get more revenue. Being anti-Washington is a popular stance, but the reality is how is this going to relate to the state?

“People want to hear anti-establishment rhetoric and that resonates with a lot of people right now, but you still have to have solutions to all these problems because the challenge of the next governor is you have to have the support of people as you come into office.”

Other than calling Ron Sparks a liberal (like that's a bad thing) What's your plan Dr. anti health care reform, anti-government, anti-women, anti-immigration reform, anti-education, Bentley? We know exactly what you stand against, but we don't have a clue what you stand for. Strike that, yes we do. You stand for maintaining the status quo.

Psst Ron Sparks! Embrace your liberalness, wear it like a badge of honor. Remember we liberals are right and conservatives are wrong. Take this opportunity to educate low information voters how they are being used to make the rich richer and the rest get the shaft. keep them poor.

Amount of money the program had given states for job creation: $1 billion

Number of jobs the program created nationwide for unemployed parents and youth: nearly 250,000

Number of jobs the program created in the South*: 86,827

Democrat Ron Sparks says he's a fiscally responsible candidate who created jobs, helped small businesses and helped consumers. All the things conservatives claim to be/do but aren't/don't. I don't have a problem with Sparks saying he is a fiscal conservative. At least he didn't vote against health care reform for his personal, political gain.

WASHINGTON -- U.S. Rep. Artur Davis, D-Birmingham, announced today that he will vote against the version of health care reform legislation pending in the U.S. House.

The decision means all three Democrats from Alabama will defy their party leadership on the biggest domestic policy agenda item of the year.

The economy is really bad thanks to the conservative republican non-agenda. People are suffering thanks to the conservative republican non-agenda. Vote for the man with a plan, not the man with the anti-government rhetoric and spin.

Don't fall for the Rope A Dope. Ron Sparks is not the one running as a conservative democrat. He is running as a Democrat.

The trick, of course, would be to convince those constituencies that their interests are not opposed at all.

If Ron Sparks wants to go up against Tommy Stevenson, the entire Alabama press corps will come down on him for it. Most of us wanted Artur Davis, anyway.

Let's back up to when this whole Ron Sparks endorsed Richard Shelby mess started. Tuscaloosa News reporter Tommy Stevenson reported remarks made by democratic gubernatorial candidate Ron Sparks during a campaign stop in Tuscaloosa with the headline Sparks touts gambling as a revenue source.

Stevenson wrote this;

Sparks, a Democrat, said he supports Tuscaloosa Republican Richard Shelby in his bid for re-election to the U.S. Senate because of Shelby’s experience and ability to get things done.

Before Sparks said this:

“I don’t want Richard Shelby getting beat,” he said. “I want Richard Shelby helping me to save the Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville. I want Richard Shelby to help me when we start looking at military closures in Alabama because they are extremely important. Can you imagine the economic impact of the military leaving Alabama?”
Sparks said, “It is time to roll up our sleeves, take those ‘Rs’ and ‘Ds’ off our shoulder and work together in Alabama.”

Which means that not only is it in a news article, but it sounds like there's video as well.

Uh NO, it means Sparks made the statement during the course of his remarks to the group. I guess it would have been to much like right (pun intended) to contact Ron Sparks and ask him for clarification.

The substance of Stevenson's report was about Sparks plan to tax gambling proceeds as a revenue source, his experience and accomplishments as Agriculture Commissioner, his plans for job creation, lifting the ban on the sale of alcoholic beverages on Sundays, and other policy issues. But instead of focusing on the substance of Sparks remarks some chose to focus on a snippet. You know the drill, take a snippet out of context and twist it suit your own agenda. The agenda in this case was make it look like Ron Sparks was not a loyal democrat.

What conservative operative Andrew Breitbart did to Ms. Sherrod was intentional, malicious, and borderline criminal. He did not accidentally omit a word or two or place extra emphasis on the wrong syllable resulting in the failure to clarify the meaning of an event. In an attempt to shift the focus away from the NAACP’s justified condemnation of the “…extremist elements within the Tea Party, calling on Tea Party leaders to repudiate those in their ranks who use racist language in their signs and speeches,” Breitbart manufactured and posted a video that intentionally misrepresented Ms. Sherrod’s presentation in order to further a larger agenda.

Like Shirley Sherrod, when Ron Sparks tried to clarify and explain his remarks;

This was not an endorsement of Sen. Shelby. It was an acknowledgement that I will work with him across party lines to create new jobs in Alabama and that federal money plays an important role in Alabama's economy. Our problems are so great they can only be solved by all of us working together, and I will unite with anyone, Republican or Democrat, to get my top priority done: bringing good jobs to the working families of Alabama.

No one wants to hear it and Sparks is accused of trying to blame it on the media,

The other thing that gets me is the statement on his Facebook page that blames the whole incident on the press. Where have we heard that before? Well, we heard it from the Ron Sparks campaign during the primaries, for one. We also heard it from the Bush Administration for eight years.
Quite frankly, I'm getting beyond sick of politicians blaming the messenger. Media bias exists, yes, but not every newspaper story is an opinion piece written by a pundit. Either you did it or you didn't. Either you said it or you didn't. Grow a pair and at least admit that you f*#ked up. Who cares whether or not they reported on that other thing to make your f*#kup appear slightly rosier? You still f*#ked up, and that's the point!

Thus the warning;

Sparks can blame it on the media all he wants, but I know Tommy Stevenson. He would never sensationalize the news. He is one of the most rational people I've ever met.
And if you pi$$ him off, he'll b**ch slap you with a two-by-four.

So let me get this straight, if candidates dare try to clarify their remarks or put them into some kind of context for the public it's considered to be going up against the reporter, and if they dare go up against the reporter the entire Alabama press corps will come done on them for it? Wow.

No where in Sparks explanation does he blame the media, say he was misquoted or accused Tommy Stevenson of sensationalism.

This was not an endorsement of Sen. Shelby. It was an acknowledgement that I will work with him across party lines to create new jobs in Alabama and that federal money plays an important role in Alabama's economy.

As yellowdog notes Sparks remarks were taken totally out of context;

If you will watch the video... attached at the end of the reporter's letter, who by the way did no b*#ch-slapping, you will see -- you will see for yourself -- the context of the comments.
You will also see Sparks has a lot to say and strong Democratic populist opinions.
A good interview with a good message, and an acknowledgement that we need strong Federal representation and funding or this State will be in dire financial crisis.

According to bamanewsguy the entire Alabama Press Corps was for Davis anyway. I'm shocked! Shocked I tell you. Not.

It's pretty damn embarrassing to be white these days, I can tell you.

After we had Professor Gates, who knew his constitutional rights better than to step out his front door and in refusing to do so, infuriated Sgt. Crowley by hampering him in the "performance of his duties" (emphasis on the word performance, in the theatrical sense). Then we had the Shirley Sherrod charade when a desperate white pundit was so eager to make a name for himself that he fabricated news - by ginning up a story of a pioneering community development, human rights activist as a "racist." And she might have been, with understandable outrage at her father being killed by a white farmer, never prosecuted. But instead, she shared her journey of reflection and righteousness, only to have it adulterated by smear tactics accusing her of the very racist thinking she condemned by relating her soulful journey to her audience.

Missed by many in the "racism" was Mrs. Sherrod's actual message: the exploitation of the "haves" by the "have nots." Now, as during the civil war, it is a conflict between moneyed interests, and ordinary people striving to make a living for themselves and their families.

Next, we got to the transparently revolting moments, when overt racism was all out front when a white "helper" woman chastised a black woman caller for lacking a "sense of humor." Seeking help, the caller was taunted with animosity and ridicule by the multiple degreed "marriage and family counselor" who said, "If you're that hypersensitive about color and don't have a sense of humor, don't marry out of your race." No, subtly there: stay separate so we can stay unequal. The melting pot was a nice national ethos when Dr. Laura's Jewish and Italian parents inter-married, producing what Dr. Laura characterizes as a "dysfunctional" family. No kidding.

Maybe it was her hurt and rage at living in that family that fueled her apparent "hypersensitivity" to spousal differences. Exhibiting human empathy means listening with understanding and courtesy, to say nothing of refraining from putrid, volatile epithets; all that was beyond Dr. Laura. Anyone who doubted her intent need only hear her say "baaaalack" to understand it.

Both Shirley Sherrod and Laura Schlessinger had childhood scars. One black, one white. One chose to teach human dignity, the other chose to denigrate it. But then again, comparing Shirley Sherrod with Dr. Schlessinger is no match, not even close.

Shirley Sherrod is Reverend Jeremiah Wright Part II

President Obama was forced (yes forced) to renounce, reject and repudiate Shirley Sherrod the same way he was forced to renounce, reject and repudiate Reverend Jeremiah Wright,his Pastor, mentor, and friend. The man who united him in holy matrimony with Michelle. The man who baptized his children. I said it then, and I will say it now, it's the media. Strike that. It's the white wing media.

The lack of diversity in the media must be corrected. Has anyone noticed all the Talking TeeVee Pundit heads are white men and women? And they wonder why President Obama "rushed to judgement" and fired Shirley Sherrod before having all the facts? Are Glen Beck, Sean Hannity, Bill O'Rielly, Matt Drudge, Andrew Breitbart , Rush Limbaugh, and other Smear Merchants are running the country? It sure looks that way to me.

Let's rewind. Faux News found clip of Reverend Jeremiah Wright preaching in his own darn church, took a segment out of context thus portraying him to the world as President Obama's anti American pastor. Forget what Jeremiah Wright said BEFORE he said "God Damn America". Forget what Jeremiah Wright said AFTER he said "God Damn America". No one thought to look at the entire video or to examine Reverend Wright's life and his experiences. Strike that no one in the media wanted to do these things. Why? Because they wanted to expose so called "black racism" and make Reverend Wright the focus so they wouldn't have to concentrate on the substance of his sermon.

Fast forward to Shirley Sherrod. Andrew Breitbart found a clip of a speech of Sherrod made at a NAACP Freedom Fund Banquet. Took the a segment of the speech out of context and used her as the poster woman for "racism". Forget what Shirley Sherrod actually said. Forget Shirley Sherrod's life and experiences. Why? Because the media wanted to expose so called "black racism".

Let's get something straight. There is so such animal as "black racism". As a matter of fact, let's stop using the word "racism" and call it what it is, White Privilege

White privilege is being able to attend churches over the years whose pastors say that people who voted for John Kerry or merely criticize George W. Bush are going to hell, and that the U.S. is an explicitly Christian nation and the job of Christians is to bring Christian theological principles into government, and who bring in speakers who say the conflict in the Middle East is God’s punishment on Jews for rejecting Jesus, and everyone can still think you’re just a good church-going Christian, but if you’re black and friends with a black pastor who has noted (as have Colin Powell and the U.S. Department of Defense) that terrorist attacks are often the result of U.S. foreign policy and who talks about the history of racism and its effect on black people, you’re an extremist who probably hates America.

President Obama needs to stand up to this reverse racism spin.

After the Shirley Sherrod episode, there's no longer any need to mince words: A cynical right-wing propaganda machine is peddling the poisonous fiction that when African Americans or other minorities reach positions of power, they seek some kind of revenge against whites.

Let's HOPE the lesson in all of this is Shirley Sherrod and Alan Grayson teach President Obama how to deal effectively with the media, I mean Bullies.

Right-wing bullies thrive on fear, cowardice and on political leaders like Barack Obama who don't want to make waves and would rather "split the difference." When I was just a wee lad in elementary school no one had explained the physics of muscles and fists to me properly. I was a safety crossing guard and there was this one big bully-- he towered over me-- who used to terrorize weaker, smaller students. He pushed some poor kid down at my post one morning and I walked over to him and pulled him off the guy. We got in a fist-fight... and he pulverized me. But he never bothered me again and he never made any trouble on my corner again. It's when you don't stand up to bullies, as Neville Chamberlain learned, that they feel empowered.

Lost in all the Sherrod hoopla is the fact President Obama scored two legislative victories yesterday. but thanks to his fear of the white...I mean the right it was drowned out by news about Shirley Sherrod.

Anyway, once again, we have a teachable racial moment in A-merry-ca. Black pundits are all over the cable networks, and they are telling the rest of A-merry-ca how black folks really feel. They hope that A-merry-ca will care. They wont. It seems everybody got the memo except black folks: There is no more racism in A-merry-ca.

Remember what Ronnie B. said;

The so-called mainstream media, now knowing that the President--for whatever reason(s)--will do nothing, watches for and covers the assaults whenever they happen. Their (rather logical) conclusion is that: "well, if the President of all people doesn't act as if Black Americans are worthy of a certain level of honor and respect, then it appears that we don't need to either".

When political leaders regard us with utter disdain and contempt, and a mainstream media goes along with blind indifference, then we are in serious trouble.
