Why don't they put this on TeeVee?

Terrifying when you think about it, isn't it?

RedEye's Week in Review

We dodged one bullet this week, but got hit with another one.

As TheSkepticOne said, I don't know what made  Chief Justice John Roberts vote the way he did but thank Gawd he did.  I guess he was too tired to go over to the "White" House of Representatives and slap some sense in The Craven 17 and 1 sell out, who joined with the republicans to hold the Attorney General of the United States in contempt of Congress for the first time in history.  Yee Haw!

The Talking TeeVee/Raido Pundit Heads, the Republican Presidential candidate(s), Republican Senators, Governors, and Congress Critters, all have access to quality affordable health.  They can afford to take their families on exotic vacations to.  They have multiple homes and cars.  They aren't worried about how they are going to send their students to college.    They are not  poor, but by the grace of God they can/could be.

The Affordable Health Care Act is a live saver for poor Americans.  So why do the pro-life republicans have a problem with that?  I'm just asking....

Full "White" House Votes to Legally Lynch Eric Holder

Eric Holder is pictured. | AP Photo

WASHINGTON, DC
Thursday, June 28, 2012

Following last week's vote in the House Oversight Committee, the House voted to hold Attorney General Eric Holder in Contempt of Congress for his role in the investigation into the "Fast and Furious" program.

The Department of Justice and the House leadership were in talks to prevent the vote until early Wednesday morning, when the AP reported they failed to reach an agreement.

The House Oversight Committee, under the leadership of Chairman Darrel Issa (R-CA), is seeking documents relating to the "Fast and Furious" program in which guns sold in South-Western states were tracked in hopes of tracing them to leaders of drug rings across the border in Mexico. Guns in the program were later used in several crimes, including the murder of a Border Patrol Agent.

The Justice Department argues that it has already provided all the relevant documents, except those that cover ongoing investigations. The White House announced that it was seeking executive privilege in withholding some of the documents just before the House Committee met last week.

Members of the Congressional Black, Hispanic, Asian Pacific American and Progressive Caucuses, as well as other members, walked off of the House floor during the vote to hold Holder in contempt of Congress.

Putting Eric Holder in his place "Fast and Furious"

The Importance of Being Eric
Fuming over the Supreme Court ruling upholding the Affordable Health Care Act,  republicans will probably take their fury out on Attorney General Eric Holder and hold in Contempt of Congress this afternoon since they can't get the President...directly.

GET THIS! Barack Obama and Eric Holder (two dark-skinned guys) concocted a scheme that would have forced good white people everywhere to voluntarily give up their guns. Theplan was to run MILLIONS of weapons into Mexico. The spread of violence as a result of all those firearms would surely spill over across the border onto American streets - resulting in the countless murders of innocent white children with red hair and freckles and names like "Rusty" and "Muffie". The result of the carnage would force the American people to demand a ban on all guns. It's an evil, liberal plot, you know.

Any DINO/BLUE DOGS  who joins with republicans and vote to hold Eric Holder in contempt should be given the middle finger from this point on.  What good is electing a democratic representative if they govern like a republican?

Eric Holder is being held in contempt of congress by a contemptuous jackass like Darrell Issa. Isn't that funny? The House will be voting on the matter this week. You can guess which way they're going to go with this one. Holder does not want to handover to Issa documents he is legally forbidden to produce - applications for wiretaps and grand jury transcripts for instance. Holder won't budge and Obama is citing "Executive Privilege". "What are they hiding?" goes the cry. It's nothing more than a political witch hunt; a desperate attempt to discredit the Obama administration just in time for the November election. Are enough of the voters going to be stupid enough to swallow this bullshit without so-much as a chaser? Judging by their pathetic history the answer to that question is a resounding "YES".

What a difference a lone African American school board member makes

Huntsville City School Board President, Laurie McCaulley
Current school board President Laurie McCaulley was elected in 2008 to fill the seat of the late Dr. James I. Dawson, representing District 1 Schools. McCaulley has the distinction of being the first African-American female elected to the HCS board of education, and the lone African American member.  McCaulley's term expires this year, and she is running for re-election against Pat King, who she narrowly defeated in 2008.

Dr. Dawson was known as a fighter for justice and equality.  He boasted of being "Unbought and Unbossed" by special interest.  Unfortunately for the students and parents in District 1, I can't say the same about his successor, who goes along to get along, often at the expense of the people she was elected to represent.

Dr. Dawson would never have allowed non-certified Teach for America teachers to replace certified teachers  in Title 1 ( predominately African American) Schools, in order to circumvent the Alabama Education Association, with a 1.9 million dollar no bid contract.

Dr. Dawson would never have allowed the students (black) in his district be mandated to wear uniforms while other students (white) were not.

Dr. Dawson would never have allowed the  board to close the Fletcher Seldon Alternative school and outsource the program to a heavy-handed, private, drug and behavioral treatment center, with no accountability,  or oversight, where parents don't even know about the program until it's too late to protest.  Nor, are they aware their students get no legal representation.

Dr. Dawson never would have allowed Teachers, Administrators, and most importantly, the public, to be harassed  and  intimidated at public board meetings, then hide behind the letter of the law.  When it's convenient that is.

Dr. Dawson would never have allowed the board to replace textbooks with laptop computers without making sure all students had access to the Internet, their online safety protected,  and without weighing the possible negative effects, because saving money is more important all of a sudden.

The School Board named an old school with 300 black students after Dr. Dawson, but they should have renamed the new Lee High School  after him.  But no, they would rather keep the name of  the Confederate General who fought against everything Dr. Dawson stood for.

RIP Dr. Dawson, you are missed more than you will ever  know.

"Rep. Crazy-A$$ has some things to say about the Supreme Court"

Meet  Republican Becky Nordgren (r. Gadsden, Ayn Rand fan)
H/T Reran Tragedy

Excerpt:

You also may not know that the freshman District 29 representative has a Twitter account. That would probably be because she is not the most prolific tweeter, though she does occasionally praise the works of Ayn Rand and offer the odd 140-characterPresident-Obama-is-trying-to-let-illegal-people-vote conspiracy theory. Both fit well with the book report of Thomas Paine’s “Common Sense” she posted on her campaign website.
In the wake of Monday’s Supreme Court three-quarter heel turn against states that want to harass funny-talk foreigners until they leave, Rep. Nordgren fired off her first tweet of 2012 and caused a mild stir among Alabama’s political tweeter scene.
The tweet is beautiful for a number of reasons, but we can settle on three:
  1. It is always good to see an Alabama state official make a public comment vaguely in favor of secession. It validates that we remain a stalwart among these fine United States, with our leaders having not changed all that much from the “Let’s go to war so we can own people!” crew of the mid-19th century to the “Let’s go to war so we can keep them from talkin’ Spanish down at the Walmart!” folks of today. It’s like Coca-Cola: We don’t really change a classic.
We just took out a little cocaine.
  2. Yelling “States’ rights!!!!!!!!!!!!!1!!” means precisely shit in the conversation of what the Supreme Court decided yesterday. The Court’s decision turned on whether federal law preempted, or trumped, Arizona’s immigration law under the Supremacy Clause of the Constitution. The Supremacy Clause essentially says that if there is an existing federal law or an area of law that the federal government is better suited to handle, and a state then makes a conflicting law on the same subject, the federal law is the one enforced. Our founders thought the clause was necessary to keep the government together and give the central government some teeth when the states did, for example, stupid shit.Though I suppose stating so much legal reality is unfairly expecting of Nordgren a knowledge of law and government beyond yelling things.
  3. The number of exclamation marks, of course, mean she is serious.
That sort of civic illiteracy from an elected official always makes one wonder how a leader would react at other great moments in American history.
Luckily, we here at Reran Tragedy like mocking dumb Alabama political people enough to assemble such a guide for how Rep. Nordgren would have reacted to past key Supreme Court decisions.
Brown v. Board.
Lord help us.

Racial Profiling for Dummies

When black/brown/red/yellow skinned Americans are asked by law enforcement to show proof of citizenship because of the color of their skin, and white skinned Americans are not asked to show proof of citizenship, that is RACIAL PROFILING.

The Supreme Court basically gutted the Arizona Law and said the states had no business making immigration law, but righty's falsely believe they still have the right (pun intended) to racial profile.

Wrong!
Police do not have the right to stop and arrest "them" without a warrant because they look Hispanic, I mean illegal.

Immigrants don't have to carry their papers with "them" at all times.

Immigrants who seek or accept work without the  necessary documentation are not guilty of a crime.

Nor is being black and wearing a Hoodie.

Correction! Rich AL State Representative Phil Williams says " we need to begin a dialogue on what it means to be poor"

I mistakenly  identified Phil Williams as a State Senator in my original post.  Never let it be said I won't correct mistakes when they are pointed out to me.  Thanks for the catch Brian!~ Redeye

No, Representative Williams, we need to begin a dialogue on what it means to be rich.

State Representative Phil Williams ( r. rich) explains why he is voting NO on the September 18th vote to, as he calls it, raid the Alabama Oil and Gas Trust fund in order to fill a $200,000,000 dollar short fall in Medicaid.

One of the reasons the pro-life, pro family, Representative is against it is because he thinks we need to have a dialogue about what it means to be poor because the CHIPS program provides free health insurance to a family of four who earns $62,000.00 per year.

Now I don't know where he got that figure, but I would like to see him raise a family of 4 on $64,000.00 per year.

Again, considering the polices of the modern republican party, this is very true.  Their main policy is to make the rich richer at the expense of everyone else.  Anyone who is not rich and is still votes republican is voting against their own  interest...and therefore is a sucker.

I will be voting YES on September 18th  to raid the Alabama Oil and Gas Trust Fund to fill a short fall in Medicaid and CHIPS, because Medicaid and CHIP provide health coverage to children, pregant women, parents, seniors and individuals with disabilities.

No Justice in this political climate

I will believe corporations are people when Texas executes one and/or incarcerates one for life.

I will believe the republicans are serious about finding so-called illegal immigrants when they start checking for papers at construction sights and lawn care businesses.

I will believe it's not voter suppression when there is some actual voter fraud.

I believe this is what happens when you have a politicized Supreme Court.

I HOPE the Supreme Court overturns the individual mandate

Pick your teeth up off the floor and read on.

According to the all knowing, Talking TeeVee Pundit Heads, The Supreme Court will overturn the individual mandate portion of the Affordable Health Care Act on Thursday.

Sometimes a loss is a victory, we now have the opportunity to put the health back into health care reform.
Ever since health reformers opted to put lobbyists before people, partisan brawls over "Obamacare" and "Hillarycare" have dominated public debates. In dragging federal health reform before the Supreme Court, however, conservatives not only succeeded in shining a critical spotlight on this flawed law. Inadvertently, they have also given us another chance for envisioning a health care system that actually meets our health needs.
This is an opportunity to give the people what we want; Real Universal Health Care
As the nation awaits a Supreme Court ruling on the constitutionality of the Obama health care approach, a new Associated Press-GfK poll suggests that the vast majority of Americans want Congress to come up with a better plan. They know that the current system is unsustainable. Only a third of those polled favored the law President Barack Obama signed, but according to the AP, “... Whatever people think of the law, they don’t want a Supreme Court ruling against it to be the last word on health care reform.” The article continued, “More than three-fourths of Americans want their political leaders to undertake a new effort, rather than leave the health care system alone if the court rules against the law, according to the poll.”
Americans need and want real health care reform.
Republicans say that Americans don't want top-down government control of their health care. But what we have now is top-down corporate control of health care. Insurers, drugmakers, sellers of expensive equipment, hospital executives, labs, home-health-care services and others unnamed prosper by exploiting the chaos in our health care system.
 NO COMPROMISE this time.
This opens the way to a political bargain. Insurers might be let off the hook, for example, only if they support allowing every American, including those with pre-existing conditions, to choose Medicare, or something very much like Medicare. In effect, what was known during the debate over the bill as the “public option.”
So in striking down the least popular part of Obamacare - the individual mandate - the Court will inevitably bring into question one of its most popular parts - coverage of pre-existing conditions. And in so doing, open alternative ways to maintain that coverage - including ideas, like the public option, that were rejected in favor of the mandate.

We want Medicare for All!

Ronald Reagan continues to haunt us from the grave

The same United States Supreme Court that gave us Bush v Gore, and Citizens United  now makes  racial profiling legal as the red state, republicans cheer, and is another reason to put Marco Rubio on the ticket with Mitt Romney.  Snark

The immediate result is that Arizona can continue to harass and detain Latinos even if it can't deport them unilaterally. Naturally, there are limits imposed by the plain language of the bill, but proving that the effect of this section is to create unlawful racial harassment remains to be proven in court.
While that is being litigated, other red states can pass their own Latino harassment laws, and some may do so. This is bad news for Mitt Romney, who upheld the Arizona law as a model for the country.

Waiting for the next axe to fall....

If It's Sunday, it's time to meet The Pest!

It's all Darryl Issa and Fast and Furious all the time, UN fair and UN balanced among all the  Sunday Talking TeeVee Pundit Heads.
I have to hand it to the Republicans, they can make a scandal out of nothing. Literally, nothing. I am gobsmacked that the Republicans have actually concocted this elaborate "Obama-wants-to-take-your-Second-Amendment-rights" conspiracy out of thin air. The proof of this dastardly plan? That he HASN'T DONE IT YET. And yet more proof that the traditional media is completely beholden to the GOP and not at all interested in informing the public, they're going along with it instead of laughing at them and mocking their absurdity as they so richly deserve.
But hey, what else can they talk about?  They certainly can't talk about jobs, the economy, health care reform, education or any of the issues facing 99% of the American people can they?  Thanks to the media we have republicans are still delusional.
Dear Beltway elite: both sides do not do it. Republicans are crazy.
The Supreme Court who gave us Bush and Dick, Citizens United, and who has access to quality affordable health care for life, is now poised to strike down the Affordable Health Care Act.  Although the Talking TeeVee Pundit Heads are claiming it will be a huge defeat for President Obama, if they strike down part or all of the Act, NOTHING WILL HAPPEN.

WTH is the diversity in the Sunday Talk Shows?  The only cable outlet, other than MSNBC with black face(s)was Fox News Sunday of all outlets.  CNN's stab at diversity was black conservative Amy Holmes putting a black face on what they really want to say.  Black folks need not apply to host cable talk shows. No wonder the republicans feel as if they can spurn the NABJ (National Association of Black Journalist).

The Republican National Committee and the putative GOP standard-bearer, Mitt Romney, have ceded the National Association of Black Journalists convention to the Democrats, rejecting invitations to send speakers or panelists that the Democrats eagerly accepted.
The lack of diversity  is evident in the Blogosphere too.  Did you hear the one about the black guy who works for Politico who got suspended for telling the truth about the white man?
POLITICO reporter Joe Williams has been suspended pending review of recent controversial comments he made on television and Twitter, POLITICO editors informed staff late Thursday night.
On MSNBC today, Williams made a remark suggesting Mitt Romney was only comfortable around white people. The video was first flagged by conservative website Washington Free Beacon. Breitbart.com ran the video and also flagged a series of tweets Williams had written that made fun of the Republican candidate, particularly in regard to his wealth.
"Regrettably, an unacceptable number of Joe Williams's public statements on cable and Twitter have called into question his commitment to this responsibility," POLITICO's founding editors John Harris and Jim VandeHei wrote in a memo to the staff. "His comment about Governor Romney earlier today on MSNBC fell short of our standards for fairness and judgment in an especially unfortunate way."
Psst Joe!  I feel your pain.  Really I do.
I knew you wouldn't believe your change in status had nothing to do with your support or lack of it for a gubernatorial candidate and everything to do with the content of your comments and other posts. But that's the truth, end of story.
You won't hear it from the Talking TeeVee Pundit Heads of course but there were so many private jets at Mitt Romney's Republicanpoolza looked like an Air Force base.

H/T Jobsanger

Zimmerman Audio Tapes Bring Into Question Credibility.  Again.
  • I hope people know the reason why he's saying Trayvon Martin said those words and the way he said it right? It's because he want to make Trayvon sound like a thug and he know white people will back him(Zimmerman) if Trayvon is labeled as a thug

  • No what it does is try to make Trayvon Martin look like a hood or a a hoodlum. Because black people don't say "homey" no more and also when he got shot ain't nobody going to say "all man you got me" but see white people still think black people still talk like that. So now they like its more believable for white people because most of them have that kind of stereotype upon black people

Race Baiting for Votes goes on and on....

It's tough to stop Voter Fraud when there is none.

Did we see the republican playbook for  2012?  Steal the November Election?!?!

Report:  Issa Staffer offered to stop Holder Contempt vote in exchange for the resignation of Assistant Attorney General Lanny Beurer.

During a phone call last week with a senior Justice official, Issa's chief investigative counsel, Stephen Castor, broached a possible settlement. As the conversation began, according to two sources familiar with the conversation, Castor asked the official where things stood on "accountability." By that, Castor meant would any heads roll at Justice. Castor mentioned Lanny Breuer, the head of the department's Criminal Division, whom Republicans had been gunning for because of his knowledge of gun-walking techniques that had been used during the Bush administration. (Their theory was that Breuer should have taken aggressive steps to ensure that such measures were not repeated in future operations.) According to these sources, Castor said that if Breuer resigned, they could head off the looming constitutional clash.

Trayvon Martin Update

George Zimmerman's defense team released a video showing his version of what happened the night Trayvon Martin was shot and killed.  Some of his statements are questionable:

Zimmerman said Martin had been on top of him, slamming his head against the ground and smothering his mouth and nose with his hand and arm. The tape shows two butterfly bandages on the back of Zimmerman’s head and another on his nose. There are red marks on the front of his head.
“It felt like my head was going to explode,” he said.
This is a picture of William Frazier after having  his head slammed against the ground.

RedEyes "Fast and Furious" Week in Review

What's that you say?    Public Opinion Survey Shows Alabama Voters Uniformed by Local News Media?  I'm shocked!  Shocked I tell you!  NOT.  If you want to know what's really going on you have to pay for it. Case in point.  I happened to be in my automobile listening to District of Colombia Congresswoman Eleanor Norton Holmes on Make it Plain on Sirius XM radio channel 127 breaking down "Fast and Furious".   Basically, the republicans are demanding Attorney General Eric Holder release Grand Jury transcripts in relation to an ongoing criminal investigation regarding the Fast and Furious program.  Hence the exertion of Executive Privilege.

Speaking of Congresswoman Holmes, I found it ironic she could vote against Eric Holder being held in contempt as a member of the House Oversight Committee, but she can't vote when the full house votes sometimes next week.  Let me see...what do you call that?  Taxation without representation for people who pay Federal Income Tax.  God Bless America!

According to MSNBC's Rachael Maddow, this whole "Fast and Furious" mess started right (pun intended) here in Sweet Home Alabama.   Who knew?

The WARdynski on Public Education continues.  The Huntsville City School Board of misEducation will sign a $6 million dollar contract to lease Lap Top Computers so students "won't have to carry heavy books home."  Huh?  Ironically, radio boy asked the most pertinent question regarding this matter:  What about the Kids who don't have Internet at Home?  What about them indeed?  I'll tell you what about them, they are tough out of luck because of life's unfairness. Blame yourselves if you parents can't afford Internet Service.  Oh, and if you break or lose your Lap Top you are tough out of luck.

This is the country we deserve?
