Edit~"They don't die, they mulitply", and no, I'm not talking about roaches

Georgia Tech Monkey Suits
Black Sports Online
There is the sentiment among some (not to be confused with all) that racism will die when the old racist die.

There is also the sentiment among some (not to be confused with all), that if black folks would stop acting like thugs and be more like white folks they are more likely to be accepted (for lack of a better word) by white folks.

There is the sentiment among some (not to be confused with all) that America is post racial because some whites (not to be confused with all) voted for Barack Obama....twice.

Well, all you have to do is look at the picture above , and view this YouTube video of the University of Mississippi Students "Riot" over the reelection of President Obama to know that racism is alive and well, breeding a new generation of haters.

Is there racism in the world? Yes. Are the students dressed as bananas and a gorilla racist? Very unlikiely. Did they wear those costumes because GT was playing Alabama A&M? No. Commenters on the story you linked to day they have been wearing those costones for about 3 years now because occasionally the stadium will play "I'm a Banana" occasionally. Bananas - yellow, Georgia Tech YELLOW Jackets. You and the SI writer are accusing people of being racist because of a Twitter comment without doing any real journalism.

What do bananas and monkey suits have to do with Yelliw Jackets and football?

It's a sophomoric attempt to pump up the crowd using a video that was/is popular. Bananas are yellow, Georgia tech's teams have yellow in their names. Popular culture says gorillas and other apes like bananas.

If your going to call this racism, you might as well as call the Cleveland Browns racist because of their name or the St. Louis Blues.

This is nothing more than poor journalism on the part of the SI writer.

You would have been better off using the Home Depot tweet from last weekend that while I doubt it was done with racist intentions was really racially insensitive.

Comparing the Cleveland Browns and the St. Louis Blues is a sophomoric attempt to justify the actions of the Georgia Tech "fans".

Wondering how you would feel if the Georgia Tech v. Alabama A&M game were held at Louis Crews Stadium and a group of Alabama A&M students were dress in KKK regalia?

Couple questions about your comparison:

1) Have the Alabama A&M students been wearing the KKK outfits for a while now irregardless of who they are playing? (The GT student have been doing the banana/gorilla outfitds since at least 2011)

2) Was there a non racist reason that started the wearing of the KKK outfits? (GT playing the I'm a banana video)

What the Georgia Tech fans did was racially insensitive, but there is no evidence that it was done with racism in mind, in fact there is evidence that it was something that those particular students had been doing at every game irregardless of who the opponent was.

If gorilla and banana outfits are racist, we should just outlaw them as well as white sheets.

Also, if you go to the fansided.com (si.com) story you linked to, the story has been pulled and replaced with a simple handing saying "Yeah, we fumbled that one!"

That gave admitted that they jumped the gun on this story.

Just because some Georgia Tech students have been doing this since right after President Obama was reelected doesn't mean it doesn't have racist overtones. It's one thing to wear the banana costumes, but the monkey suits? Give me a break.

I'm not surprised the SI story I referenced has been pulled.

Obama was reelected in 2012, they were doing it a year earlier.

And it's not only SI that pulled their story. WSB-tv in Atlanta pulled their story. The Sporting News edited their story to point on that the SI writer had his story wrong. Only Black Sports Inline still has the story up.

Out of sight out of mind.... I don't know what saddens me more, the fact the white, male dominated, media pulled the story, or, that they think there is nothing to see, hear, or talk about here.
