An Open Letter to the Huntsville City Schools Board of MisEducation

Dear Members of the Huntsville City Schools Board of Education,

In the Sunday, January 29,2012, edition of The Huntsville Times, school board member David Blair is quoted as saying the superintendent is doing what he was hired to.  That may be true, however, the current members of the Board of Education aren't doing what WE THE VOTERS hired YOU to do.

I recently attended a community luncheon where table conversation turned to the  sad, sorry, state of the Huntsville City School System.  Adjectives such as cold-blooded, Hitler, mean-spirited, harda$$, Gestapo and clueless are just a few of the adjectives used to describe HCS superintendent Casey Wardynski.  To make a long story short, we didn't hire YOU for you to hire someone like this.

We didn't hire you so you could hire someone who would privatize public education and wage war on public school administrators, teachers and support personnel.  Board President Laurie McCaulley is also quoted in the article saying she has heard positive feedback from some of the principals in the district.  Oh really?  What Principals?

We didn't hire you so you could hire someone who would close down the Fletcher E. Seldon Progress Center and fuel the cradle to prison pipeline.
Red flag alert: “Students would be referred to the program by a designated representative of the school system.” Really. I wonder which socio-economic and racial populations would land at Pinnacle. Would you expect a program that chooses its participants by “a designated representative of the school system” rather than through publicly available guidelines to be equitably available to all?
We didn't hire you so you become real estate brokers and sell off valuable property for "in-kind services" to nonprofit agencies.

We didn't hire you so you could balance the budget on the backs of our children.

We didn't hire you so you could hire someone who would double our legal fees while cutting special education funding and not keep their promises.

We didn't hire you so you could refuse to address our concerns, or answer our questions.

We didn't hire you so you could hire someone who paid the former superintendent almost $300,000.00 to sit at home while continuing to hire aides for himself.

Casey Wardinski  may be doing what you hired him to do, but you aren't doing what we hired you to do.

I have a strong feeling ALL of YOU will be FIRED in the near future.  That's not a threat.  It's a promise.    It's not wise to ignore  your employers.

Sincerely,
RedEye

PS  Huntsville Times reporters, how about asking Laurie McCaulley to name names of the principals who support the plan?  How about talking directly to the taxpayers and see what they have to say about the present state of the school system?  How about talking to the students and see what they have to say?  Is it too much to ask for some fair and balanced coverage of the HCS system?

The unethical lynching of an uppity black father

It's too bad Huntsville City Councilman Richard Showers wasn't immediately available for comment before the Huntsville Times started lighting torches and getting the ropes, I mean, before they ran with their Huntsville City Councilman Richard Showers allowed daughter to gas up at city fuel terminal after tornado, story.

But nooo, they had to join the lynch mob and try and discredit the good Councilman whose only crime is being a devoted and involved father instead of the stereotypical lazy, baby making, absentee father. Black fathers taking up for their daughters is  *cough cough* frowned upon in Huntsville.

According to Councilman Showers, the alleged facts are inundated with misrepresentations and false statements. As to the allegations in question, his daughter had an emergency and did what any daughter would do and called her Dad for help. Councilman Showers did what any good father would do and helped his daughter. You can read the full account in the May 18, 2011, issue of Speaking Out News. I discovered today you can't purchase Speaking Out News at Newsstands, nor is there an updated online version. The office is located at 115 Wholesale Ave NE, Huntsville, AL 35811.

Councilman Showers denies he apologized profusely as stated in City Attorney Peter Joffrion's letter to the Ethics Committee.
City Attorney Peter Joffrion reported the April 28 incident to the Alabama Ethics Commission on Friday. The Times obtained a copy of the two-page letter through an open records request.
Want some irony? In Thursday night’s city council meeting, the city was poised to award a contract for wrecker services to a local company. Showers objected, accused the company owner of unethical conduct, and tried to get the council to award the contract to a company in his district that had submitted a higher bid.

Want some more irony? We know more about Richard Showers daughter getting less than 10 dollars worth of gas the day after the Tornadoes than we know about the wrecker contract and the accusations of unethical conduct by the owner. Why is that? Never mind. We know why.

It's easier to accuse Councilman Showers of unethical conduct than investigate the real unethical conduct.

If it can happen to a sitting member of the City Council it can and will happen to you too.

So, Councilman Showers, when are you going to file an ethics violation complaint?

Redeye's Week in Review

I spent most of the week in the right wing world trying to convince righty's the Huntsville Branch of the NAACP and concerned African American leaders are not threatening to dress up in white robes, light torches, get the ropes, rape white women, sell white children and force white men into slavery. Huntsville Times reporter Mark McCarter fired the shot heard around town, firing the opening salvo in the St. Valentines Massacre of Huntsville Madison County NAACP President Alice Sams. I mean, how dare them there uppity coloreds threaten the good white folks with legal action if they continue to operate a segregated school system? It's not the good white folks fault black parents don't care about their children's education. While the Civil War raged Huntsville City Schools Board members cut jobs and hired a consultant. Anyhoo, this is what happens when reporters interpret the news instead of reporting the news. They create
Weapons
of
Mass
Distraction
One thing I learned as a result of my unwelcome visit into their world, they can't handle the truth. They would RATHER believe a lie.

TeaPublican Governors are carrying out their marching orders to destroy unions and bring back slavery. But that's OK. Mission accomplished. They hoodwinked their base into voting against their self interest. A base that cares more about sending President Obama back to Kenya than they care about jobs, education, access to quality affordable health care, women's rights, civil rights and human rights. Teabaggers can dish out the violent revolution threats but they can't take violent threats.

Republicans are pro life only if it's a republican life. Democrats are on their own. Women, especially poor women of color were dealt a sucker punch from the white, male dominated gop congress. White, republican men don't want poor women to have access to a safe legal abortion or access to family planning, yet they claim them there baby making black women make babies just so the government can take care of them. I guess they want them to breed the next generation of slave labor.
The incarcerated have historically filled the dregs of the American workforce, an emblem of racial subjugation often invisible in the politics of labor and social policy.

Republicans love all war all the time.

The Republican Party has declared war on public servants in the United States the same way Middle East dictators have declared war on political dissidents. Members of the GOP like Scott Wilson, the governor of Wisconsin, want the people of Wisconsin to believe that the people who keep their communities safe, their houses from burning down, their kids educated and their trash picked up on time are nothing more than sniveling spoiled brats who should be thankful if they get to work for anything more than a dollar a day and a bowl of rice.

I told y'all folks don't let those Republicans get back in or it would be all bad. Do you hear me now?

I hear ya loud and clear.
