Remember how Bush and Company kept us "safe" after 9/11?

Remember how the man who gave us Sarah Palin blamed President Obama for the Orlando Mass Shooting?

There has been drumming and singing outside of Nelson Mandela's home every since his passing.  It is the African way! In music the drum represents the heart beat....song represents the breath of life, a fitting tribute.

From the dancing and singing, people are expressing their celebration of a life but also keep a spirit alive – a spirit of hope and reconciliation.

Par for the course when an African American leader dies the mainstream media counts on us having collective, cultural amnesia as they  whitewash (pun intended) how republicans really felt about Nelson Mandela, what he stood for, and why Nelson Mandela was imprisoned for 27years.

Mandela was a political activist and agitator. He did not shy away from controversy and he did not seek — or obtain — universal approval. Before and after his release from prison, he embraced an unabashedly progressive and provocative platform. As one commentator put it shortly after the announcement of the freedom fighter’s death, “Mandela will never, ever be your minstrel. Over the next few days you will try so, so hard to make him something he was not, and you will fail. You will try to smooth him, to sandblast him, to take away his Malcolm X. You will try to hide his anger from view.”

I almost feel sorry for Ted Cruz who got trashed by his fan base for having the nerve to pay tribute to Nelson Mandela on  face book.  Bill O'Riellly and the other Lords of Loud won't make the same mistake.

While Senator Cruz appears to be taking the high road for once in his political life, his Facebook commenters would not let the Tea Party favorite get away with stepping out of their pure ideological line.  Praising Mandela was a step too far for Cruz fans and the ugliness, historical inaccuracies, and racism in the comments on the post should serve as an illustration that the tea party as a serious political entity has jumped the shark.

Would someone please tell the TeaPublicans and the white, male dominated Talking TeeVee Pundit Heads that President Obama won twice?  It's not just political districts.  Our news is gerrymandered too.

It isn’t just politicians that are feeding their bases, it is the media outlets, as well. The village common — you know, that place where we all meet to discuss our problems, relying on the same set of facts — has shrunk to the size of a postage stamp, surrounded by the huge gated communities of like minds who never venture into the great beyond.

 There is no such law, I am aware who would need to indict Showers but a little MSM media attention would go a long way…

When a sitting United States Senator says we need 100 more Senators like Jesse Helms in the Senate, after the United States Supreme Court overturned Section 5 of the Voting Rights Act on the grounds the south was no longer racist because we elected an African American President,  it's pretty clear why the Civil War Never Ends, especially in Sweet Home Alabama, because it is a culture that is ingrained, embedded, and institutionalized  in the hearts and minds of white folks from the cradle to the grave.

 But if you look at the state of Alabama, an awful lot of the people that run this state (government and business) came through the greek system at UA.  The white branch of the greek system.  So it isn't just an academic thing, and it isn't just student choice -- we all know that alums will have considerable input on whether the first (or second or third) black or white student will be accepted -- this is about whether people of some different color have a chance to get a foot onto this important ladder.  Right now, evidence says they have essentially zero chance.

The allegations of segregation, racism, and discrimination in Alabama's University Greek System aren't new.  The Old South Parade at University of Alabama just bite the dust two years ago.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. –  A white fraternity that traces its roots to the Civil War and Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee is again facing complaints over its antebellum-themed events.
This time, University of Alabama alumnae are upset after Kappa Alpha Order members wearing Confederate uniforms and carrying battle flags paraded past a historically black sorority as the women celebrated the group's 35th anniversary.
The fraternity has been forced to halt its "Old South" festivities on some campuses because of claims of racial insensitivity, and Alabama members have apologized for pausing in front of Alpha Kappa Alpha's sorority house during this year's parade.

The Old South has perfected the art of victimhood and put it on a pedestal right up there beside the hoop-skirted women of the silver screen, to be celebrated it at every opportunity.  This is a self-fulfilling prophecy.  It's time to leave the dead past in the past, guys, and move forward to at least the 20th century even if you can't yet bear to join the rest of us in the 21st.  I feel sure Robert E. Lee, whom you claim to revere so much, would offer the same advice.
