EYE am sick and tired of being sick and tired of the media enabled  fake outrage , and demands for a DOJ investigation, after Alabama closed 31 DMV offices in mostly poor, rural counties with majority African-American populations. under the guise of saving money.

EYE am sick and tired of the pretense and hand wringing. Let's get real. This is #Sweet Home Alabama people.

Talk is cheap. Now is the time to put up or shut up. Instead of calling for investigations after the fact, call on Congress to restore the Voting Rights Act. Instead of complaining about the results after enabling the results, call on the Alabama State Legislature to repeal the Voter ID Bill.

We must strongly encourage both Houses of the U.S. Congress to enact strong legislation to restore, strengthen and modernize the Voting Rights Act of 1965 when they return to Washington, D.C. after the November election for the “lame duck” session. We need to ensure that Americans’ right to vote is not compromised!

"The prior restraint doctrine that grows from the first amendment and is supposed to protect my reporting in this case dates to 1780, and that predates the Lewis and Clark expedition. If our judiciary is so corrupt that it can't get simple constitutional law like this correct, then we are about to become more like Communist China that any of us care to admit."

No, 2013 really has made a name for itself in only one way. It was a year of general political incompetence, frothing buffoonery and self-made disasters. It was the year a chastened Republican Party did a lot of soul-searching as to why the voters no longer liked them, and followed it up by doing all of those same things twice over. We continued our tradition of not being able to accomplish even the most basic of legislative tasks; we were introduced to new battle lines declaring that however many children needed to be shot down in their classrooms, it was the price we were willing to pay for maintaining the collective white male gun erection; we saw the slow sinking of every last political savior into swamps of their own making.

What's that you say?  Better health care for blacks depends on the states?  I'm shocked!  Shocked I tell you!  Not.

 Of the 41.3 million uninsured Americans and legal U.S. residents, 16 percent are Black. African-Americans tend to be uninsured at a higher rate than other Americans, statistics show. While 16 percent of all non elderly U.S. citizens and other lawful residents are uninsured, 20 percent of eligible African-Americans lack health insurance.
Many of those uninsured live in Florida (677,000), Georgia (631,000), Texas (617,000), North Carolina (380,000) and New York (354,000).
But four of those five leading states – all except New York – do not plan to expand Medicaid, which advocates said is troubling as many African-Americans lack insurance because of meager incomes.

After reading some of the post-cancellation online comments, I hope some of those folks are more responsible and thoughtful with their Second Amendment rights than they are with their First Amendment ones.

What's that you say?  Open Season on Black Voting Has Officially Started?  I'm Shocked!  Shocked I tell you!  Not.

It is—and always has been—unclear to me how much of this is driven by straight-up anti-black animus and how much is purely partisan, with blacks as collateral damage.

Yep, The Southern Strategy is Alive and Well ,  the ghost of of Bull Conner  is hovering again,  thanks to the cradle of the Confederacy, Sweet Home Shelby County, Alabama.  There is more than whiff of desperation for the GOP to win by any means necessary.

Bottom line? The lawyer who filed Shelby County v. Holder is the son of a Dixiecrat, the party that nominated Strom Thurmond for president at its 1948 convention--held at Birmingham's Boutwell Auditorium. And the lawyer's father was closely aligned with Bull Connor, the public official who ordered fire hoses turned on peaceful black demonstrators in 1963.

Psst!  President Obama, what about us?  Are you going to let the Supreme Court give you, I mean black folks the middle finger because black voters dared get out and vote for you in record numbers in 2008 and 2010? How come you keep letting the losers win?

"It's all about money and race"

The public school system in Huntsville, Alabama used to be known as the best kept secret in Alabama.  As a product of the Huntsville City School system after integration,  I remember the good old days when all schools were considered "good schools".  When all teachers/principal and support personnel were highly qualified. When young minds were encouraged to reach their full potential regardless of of their zip code, parents income, race, gender, or religion.

The city of Huntsville had the perception of being a progressive oasis in the reddest of the red states.  Huntsville's image wasn't marred with bombings, Bull Conner, dogs and fire hoses.  Nope, Huntsville was thought to be immune from the ignorance of racism when public schools and facilities integrated without fanfare (except for the swimming pool).

So what happened between then and now?  Two words....white flight from north Huntsville to south Huntsville, and the creation of neighborhood schools.  You see, the government can't tell you where to live, but the government can tell you where to attend a public school.

As in most cases, people chose to live based on where they can afford to live.  Taxpayers who live in affluent areas have access to the best public schools their tax dollars can buy.  Taxpayers who live in non affluent areas have access to the worst public schools their tax dollars can buy.

There is a provision in the HCS Federal Court Desegregation order that allows students to transfer from schools where they are the majority race, to schools where they are the minority race.  This is supposed to be a two way deal, but what parent in their right (no pun) mind is going to transfer their child from the best public school their tax dollars can buy, to the worst school their tax dollars can buy?  I mean, really?

Why are public schools in the less affluent area considered to be the worst schools you ask?  Some say it's because of the unfairness of life, it's not their fault the majority of the students are black/brown/poor.  Some say the U.S. Department of Justice is making unreasonable demands on the school district.

I'm convinced we have a separate and unequal school district due to the lynching of public education, not only in Huntsville, but the state in general.  You see, Sweet Home Alabama cares more about property values than educating it's poor/black/brown students.

What those in positions of power fail to realize is we are all in the boat together.  If one end of the boat is clean and bright and the other end of the boat is dirty and full of holes, guess what...the whole damn boat is going to sink.

It's all about money and race.  Keeping those two things in mind, everything else makes perfect sense
