"The sum of our fears" Update

University of Mississippi students riot over Obama Victory.  Presidents re election greeted with anger at deep south campus. Raw video
After Obama victory Donald Trump rants on Twitter  "This election is a total sham, we are not a democracy."
"There is a mean spirit on the lose, not only in Alabama, but in America and that's what makes this election so important." Alabama State Senator Hank Sanders (D. Selma)
"Mitt's a liar but he's still better than Obama"  Former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich (r. Georgia)

Now that the election is over, I am going to admit I was afraid, strike that, I was very afraid,  republicans were going to gain control all three branches of our government, including the Supreme Court.  Although the  media infused, GOP still controls the House of Representatives,Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, and President Obama, can keep them in check.  Hopefully they won't make it their life mission to destroy our country, and will allow President Obama the opportunity to govern he was denied in his first term.

The more things change, the more they stay the same.
"This race has been particularly difficult, because the ugly racism that still haunts this country and compels the voting choices of a majority of white people was particularly aggressive this time around. I’d say it was worse in 2008, because last time, I think conservatives simply found it implausible that Obama could win, polls aside. Now that they have proof that Americans will vote for a black President, their rage has spun out of control. After four years of conservatives trafficking in race-baiting conspiracy theories, the majority of white people are still on board with their agenda, which is beyond depressing."

I have to give republicans credit, they almost pulled it off.  All that money, all that Benghazi, "You didn't build that," the birtherism, the racial dog whistles - all for naught.

Will we the people ever form a more perfect union?

I HOPE so, but I FEAR not.
CNN exit polls showed women voting in greater numbers than men and heavily favoring Obama - in contrast with men, who preferred Romney.

RedEye tiptoeing away from the computer to go pray for our country and the world.

There is a core of racism alive and well in Alabama.

We see and hear it all the time, but people aren't called on it or it reverberates and reinforces in an Alabama echo chamber.

In Huntsville, rational intelligent people believe allowing certain types of people in their neighborhoods will lower property values, and it isn't racist to protect property values.

In Huntsville, rational intelligent people believe students should stay in their neighborhoods or certain types of people will lower academic standards in their neighborhoods, and it isn't racist to protect academic standards.

If the culture in Huntsville condones this illegal racist mindset, just where are the enlightened progressive communities in Alabama?

There are none, and therein lies the problem my friend. President Obama received a mere 39% of the white vote this time, compared with 46% last time. I am hoping since he dosen't have to worry about pandering to people who aren't going to vote for him anyway he will do something to impove the lives and condition of those who did vote for him.

America and racism.

Did you know the electoral college is a vestige of the slavery compromises made to form our Constitution?

The electoral college is equal to the State representation of the House of Representatives. An accommodation to the states dependent on slavery for their economic prosperity though less populous were allowed to count slaves as 3/5 of a person (another compromise)even though it was argued they were just property.

So a white slave owner with 100 slaves now was represented as 60 plus all the free whites around. This put them on a more even footing with the more populated but free citizen residents of the Northern states.

Today, we still suffer the injustice of the electoral college because the republican'ts fear the majority vote in the national election. If all 50 states were in play, would republican'ts ever win the Presidency?

Yes I am aware of the history of the electoral college but thanks for sharing with readers who may not have known why the red, republican, confederate, slave states have so much power.

Would republican'ts ever win the Presidency if all 50 states were in play? I doubt it, but I'm sure they would figure out a way to steal it too. :)
