When people hear the words the United States we don't want them to think of Alabama. The state has become a liability. People have a tendency to associate the state with teen pregnancies, obesity, religious intolerance, not to mention the state's checkered history with race relations.
You would think a state that is known for teen pregnancies would want to provide free birth control to poor women because it would reduce the number of unplanned pregnancies, and the need for an abortion. But nooo.....the Alabama, white, rich, male, dominated, red, republican state legislature is going to use HB57 to probe the vaginae of Alabama's poor women.
the GOP is in a hurry to ram this down Alabama's collective gullet before a bunch of mothers and fathers wake up and say, "Hey! Aren't they ALSO going to pass that thing that bans insurance providers statewide from covering contraception?"You don't live in Alabama any more - you live in Vatican City. These folks take their orders from Above, not from you.Lord Help Us.

I do appreciate your blog, Redeye. I also hate it when anyone lives down to a stereotype.
We do need some less provincial thought in this State. There are so many possibilities, but we are stuck in a mindset. The only antidote I can prescribe is for folks such as yourself to continue to publish.
Thank you for your kind words and your support Edward.
