"A Ball of confusion, that's what the world is today"
And the band played on.
The 3 Wings of the Republican Party: The Crazies, the Corporatists ... and Democrats
Democrats must endorse progressive principles again and hammer home the distinction between the party that cares about everyday Americans, not just the wealthy.
If Congress didn't impeach Bush and Dick for sending our troops to war based on DEAD WRONG Intelligence then they shouldn't be talking about impeaching President Obama for Libya. Just cut the funding for Libya, Afghanistan and Iraq and bring our troops and our tax dollars HOME.
Maybe they did kill the dream. Decades after King's assassination Memphis reignites labor struggle.
Texas Gov. Rick Perry (r. secessionist) is polishing off his Bats#it crazy credentials so he can join the rest of the Bats#it crazies.
White privilege and arrogance on full display. Watch Andrew Breitbart get confronted after he crashes Netroots Nation. H/T to the Beer Party for the video.
Keep an eye on this debate. The South Huntsville righty's are trying to convince themselves HUD (Housing and Urban Development) are a bunch of Thugs who are trying to *snicker* intimidate them because they exercised their first amendment and criticized the government. This is rich coming from a gang that bans speech they don't like. Oh well, you know what they say...it takes one to know one.

The plight of Memphis sanitation workers is still an emotional issue four decades after the strike, which was sparked by the death of two workers due to a faulty trash compactor. The strike developed into a rallying point for the African-American community in their struggle against the city's white establishment.
Racial overtones surfaced again in the privatization fight, which appeared suddenly last month. One councilman dismissed the 1968 struggle as belonging to another era. Another said privatization represented the next step of "change" for which King -- and President Obama -- fought, a suggestion that horrified civil-rights veterans.
The city faces a $60 million budget shortfall and council members are selling the privatization proposal with claims it could save about $18 million a year. Local media support the bid uncritically.
At the council meeting, a Firefighters official called for the city to restore a property tax worth $20 million a year, which was eliminated three years ago. He accused white council members of looking out for their gated communities and not the city as a whole.

Redeye's Week in Review~Morning Edition
The Wisconsin GOP pull off a Corporate Coup d'Etat this week.
Surprise! Surprise! Surprise! Corporations are working to destroy one of the few tools we have to stop their abusive behavior.
Everybody knows this is not about reform or balancing the budget. It's about Obama derangement syndrome. You know, the segment of our population who hate Obama more than they love themselves and their country.
Of course Scott Walker, John Kasich And Their GOP Colleagues Want You To Share A Bunch Of Sacrifices... And STFU Of course they think we are too stoopid to realize It’s very easy to prescribe “shared sacrifice” when you will not personally sacrifice anything at all.
The Republican led Congress misery index hits a record high, but you won't hear it on TeeVee.

I am about to vent so excuse my language
What the FUCK is going on in this country? Has this country gone completely insane? Is this what the country wanted when they went to the polls in November to give the keys back to the GOP? Didn’t they run on the mantra of CREATING JOBS? They have done everything but that and the chickens will come home to roost for these radical assholes. The GOP will get WIPED OUT in 2012. The democrats and president Obama have enough ammunition to go after these bastards and complete destroy their party.
You see the last 3 months the republicans have let the TEA PARTY infiltrate their ranks and their rational thinking and they are making radical decision not only in Washington but all around the country. Since being elected they have attacked Hispanics with these anti-immigration bills, have attacked women with these Draconian abortion bills, have attacked blacks, the poor and the elderly by going after head start, SS, Medicare, Medicaid, have attacked young people, poor people and Hispanics by limiting their ability to vote in 2012 by trying to pass anti-voting laws, have attacked middle class working folks by trying bust unions and go after their pensions, health care, have attacked Muslims by having these radical hearing in Washington and their protests in NYC over the mosque, attacked gays and lesbians by going after marriage laws and trying to defend DOMA in courts, trying to GUT PBS, Planned Parenthood, Health care, Wall street reform, EPA, Mortgage assistance, Educational system and the list goes on and on. All they have catered too is RICH WHITE MEN/WOMEN and Corporations.
I don’t care if you are republican, democrat or independent this war is about The RICH vs THE POOR. Corporations VS Middle Class working folks. The American people were DUPED into voting for these radicals in 2010 but I can almost guarantee you that the democrats are to have the biggest turnout in decades in 2012. The GOP will get theirs because apparently they didn’t learn their lesson for overreaching but the voting public will remind their asses in less than 2 years.
This country better wake up and wake up fast or we are going to be living like we are in a third world country where it will be just the rich and powerful and the poor and weak. President Obama and the democrats in congress/senate need to make abundantly clear as we gear up for the next election that they will fight these radical republicans and that now they have a reason to fight because the American people have gotten to see with their own eyes what kind of party the GOP is. They are arrogant, hateful, uncaring, racists who who don’t give a damn about people. Is this what America has come too? Degrading and treating people like garbage who happen to look different, act different, who live different than you or have less money than you? Something has to give with this country and the people who live in it.
The republicans campaigned on creating jobs. So where are the effing jobs? Here's what I think is their job creating strategy. They've shipped all jobs overseas so they are stripping the Union of collective bargaining rights so they can create low paying jobs with no benefits.
What say you?
Overnight on March 9, fascist Republicans erased them in five minutes, in violation of Wisconsin's open meetings law, requiring "24 hours prior to the commencement of (special sessions) unless for good cause such notice is impossible or impractical."
The measure had nothing to do with budget-balancing. It's corporate ordered union busting. Wisconsin is a microcosm of America, ground zero, now breached as well as Ohio. Expect other states to follow. Public and private sector workers nationwide are losing out - betrayed by brazen politicians and corrupted union bosses, selling out rank and file members for self-enrichment and privilege.
Surprise! Surprise! Surprise! Corporations are working to destroy one of the few tools we have to stop their abusive behavior.
When you hear about frivolous lawsuits and tort reform, what that really means is taking away your ability to make right a harm that’s been done to you.
Everybody knows this is not about reform or balancing the budget. It's about Obama derangement syndrome. You know, the segment of our population who hate Obama more than they love themselves and their country.
Americans are beaten down and scared. Unemployment is at historic levels, the economy is still pretty much in the tank, we have two wars going on and we see deadly turmoil increasing in the Middle East. And what are the Republicans' priorities?: Defunding Planned Parenthood, alienating Muslims, suppressing the youth and minority vote, breaking unions and pulling the rug out from under Big Bird.
Congress' approval rating is down to 18% after being in the 20% range the first two months of the year, and is essentially back to where it was just after last November's midterm elections.

Redeye's Week In Review
We all know republicans love all war all the time so it's no surprise Wisconsin's and the gops the war on the middle class escalated this week. Yep, it's all war all the time, UNfair and UNbalanced.
Rham Emmanuel became the new mayor of Chicago this week. I feel sorry for the F^&king Liberal Retards..
Southern Public Workers say welcome to our world, Alabama State Senator Hank Sanders tried to tell y'all. But did you listen? Noooo, it was easier to bash Hank Sanders and call him a race baiter. YeeHaw!
Yes Virginia, there is a difference between republicans and democrats
What we've got here is a failure to communicate
Are you listening Left in Alabama?
Redeye over and out...for now.
Governor Walker started the whole Wisconsin union busting spectacle by saying that he’s ready to call out the National Guard, and his call with “David Koch” indicated that he’d considered planting agitators in the crowd, and that he has a baseball bat at the ready in his office.
This morning, his Republican colleagues in the State Assembly passed his bill in a 1 AM vote that was so short that 28 members present weren’t even able to register their vote.
Rham Emmanuel became the new mayor of Chicago this week. I feel sorry for the F^&king Liberal Retards..
Chicago's Daley regime was a half century orgy of arrogance, racism and plunder. Thanks to President Obama, it not only continues with the succession of Rahm Emanuel to the fifth floor office of Chicago's mayor, but with nationwide implementation of disastrous policies toward housing, schools, infrastructure and public workers, all pioneered in Chicago
Southern Public Workers say welcome to our world, Alabama State Senator Hank Sanders tried to tell y'all. But did you listen? Noooo, it was easier to bash Hank Sanders and call him a race baiter. YeeHaw!
Public workers in the South have few illusions about the uphill battle they face. For decades, Southern leaders have viewed promoting a friendly business climate -- including low unionization -- as a key to economic success.
Today, the forces allied against expanding Southern labor rights are in some ways more formidable. Record budget shortfalls have spurred lawmakers to call for containing public sector pay and benefits. Southern Republicans, after enjoying historic victories in 2010, have an opportunity to undermine a constituency that funds and mobilizes their Democratic opposition.
Yes Virginia, there is a difference between republicans and democrats
The difference between Repubs and Dems is that the Dems don’t play as ruthlessly as the opposing team: they usually follow the rules of the game, don’t foul as often, and believe that the spectators should have some stake in the outcome of the game. But make no mistake about it, Dems are as eager to play for the sake of the team, as Repubs, but Repubs are out to play for themselves and themselves only, and the spectators be damned, if they get in their way.
What we've got here is a failure to communicate
Most of you know by now that I believe in the power of communication. I believe that radio and television, for instance, are powerful tools in the propaganda wars in this country, and that they can be used, in a serious way, to benefit those who want to control the message in our day to day discourse. It is imperative that minorities have a seat at this very profitable and powerful table, and that when we do get a seat, we don't waste the space on bulls^%t. (Are you listening Bob Johnson?)
Are you listening Left in Alabama?
I’d like to make it clear that the commenter known as Redeye has no relationship whatsoever with Left in Alabama, even though her name is a link to that blog, which I am associated with.
Redeye over and out...for now.

Uh, about that returning to Slavery thingy
Remember when Alabama State Senator Hank Sanders said in a robo call to democratic voters he was voting for Ron Sparks for Alabama's Governor because he didn't want to return to the days of slavery and Jim Crow ?
Remember how the righty's, as they are wont to do, took his words literally instead of metaphorically and accused him of being a racist, race baiting, fear monger,Dinosaur with no sense of shame or decency, blah blah blab blab?
Well,Balloon Juice via jackandjillpolitics breaks it down and shows the correlation to the gop's union busting and Slavery. Literally.
Hell no we ain't fergitten!
The gop wants to make all states one of them there right to work states.
So, are you mad as hell yet?
"Well, there's a certain mean spiritness that's out there, not only in Alabama but it's in America. And that makes this election extremely important." ~Senator Hank Sanders
Can you hear him now?

Well,Balloon Juice via jackandjillpolitics breaks it down and shows the correlation to the gop's union busting and Slavery. Literally.
What thing becomes clear—as you consider the modern Republican Confederate Party’s effort to attack workers, Unions, the Middle Class and their rights—is that their focus is all about the theft of labor. Stealing the labor of folks is a sure fire way to get rich and it has been since, well, forever. Fighting efforts to protect people from the theft of their labor is what the modern so-called Conservative and/or Gliberterian movements are all about.
Hell no we ain't fergitten!
Slavery offered an elite class multiple ways to cut cost and steal labor. This system of labor theft has experienced two great threats in the last 150 years. The first was the Civil War, which ended the above ground buying and selling of humans and the theft of their labor. This was a major victory in the long fight for justice, but it was not long before gains were pushed backed.
The gop wants to make all states one of them there right to work states.
The effort to push back against labor rights started almost immediately. By 1947 this movement was able to pass the Taft Hartley Act and open the door to new restrictions to the rights of workers. By the Reagan era in the 1980s, the movement to steal labor was repackaged and resold to the most gullible and cynical among us. Since then it has picked up a lot of steam. Laws to restrict the rights of workers have been given the very Orwellian name, “Right to Work” laws—as in in you have the right to work, but not the right to come together and ask for a fair deal. In a “Right to Work” State, a worker is on his or her own. The State will always fight against you. You are on your own sucker and you just have to deal with it. In a “Right to Unionize State” you have back-up, regardless of whether or not you work in a Union shop.
So, are you mad as hell yet?

It's the stoopid WAR, Stoopid!
What part of the reason we are broke is because we are spending BILLIONS of dollars per month fighting W-ars in Iraq and Afghanistan don't our *cough cough* elected officials don't understand?
What part of the reason our counties, cities and states are broke is because we are spending BILLIONS of dollars per month fighting W-ars in Iraq and Afghanistan don't our *ahem* elected officials not understand?
What part of all war all the time and giving the rich a tax cut are the reason we are broke don't our elected officials understand?
What part of you can't fit a square peg into a round hole aka balance the budget *snark* by waging W-ar on the middle class (working poor), labor (working poor) and the disenfranchised (poor) don't they understand?
What part of we the people are sick and tired of being lied too don't they understand?
Wisconsin is Ground Zero. Despite the lame stream media spin, Wisconsin isn't about balancing the budget. It's about putting organized labor in it's place. Thank goodness Wisconsin democrats have a spine.
What GuyinMilwaukee said;
If President Obama, John Boehner and the TeaPublicans are serious about cutting spending, stop spending our tax dollars on stupid wars! They need to put up or STFU.
The TeaPublicans don't have a problem spending tax dollars rebuilding Iraq and Afghanistan, but they want to cut spending in America. Go figure.
Orange Boehner is finding it takes more than a big gavel to heard cats. Snickering
Bring our troops and our tax dollars home. Cut spending on all war all the time.

What GuyinMilwaukee said;
Yeah, I love how the Teabaggies are always screaming about how Obama and the Dems are shredding the constitution, but damned if they can come up with a coherent example of it. Someone else exercises their ACTUAL constitutional rights, like the right to peacable assembly and redress of grievances, and they get all pompous about "the people have spoken" etc. Somehow that didn't apply to them when they were disrupting (and sometimes, not peacefully) the townhall meetings. They were mum about the obstruction of the Senate process by the secret holds and requiring everything to get a super majority. Where was the tut-tutting of the corporate media? I don't remember any. But now we get the Villagers, the know-nothings that follow Beck, Limbaugh, Fox News and the Astroturfed mythology of the teabag cult weighing in with their fictional talking points, saying the unions don't even have a right to assemble. Assholes.
The hypcrisy of it all serves to underscore its real purpose: the corporate take over of government, aka fascism.
If President Obama, John Boehner and the TeaPublicans are serious about cutting spending, stop spending our tax dollars on stupid wars! They need to put up or STFU.
Tea-baggers, Republicans, and Blue-Dog Democrats in Congress use their convoluted “values” and the deficit as excuses to slash and burn social safety net programs ... witness Planned Parenthood. Social Security and Medicare appear to be next on the chopping bloc, never mind that “we the people” have actually paid for these “entitlements.” So, I suggest we actually test their resolve and commitment to reducing the deficit by demanding they implement a “Deficit Reduction Tax.” It goes something like this:
All elected and appointed officials of the US Government will have 10% of their gross monthly earnings deducted and paid towards the deficit reduction.
All retired elected and appointed officials of the US Government with federal retirement benefits exceeding the US median household income (approximately $50K) will have 10% of their federal retirement income in excess of the US median income deducted and paid towards deficit reduction.
The TeaPublicans don't have a problem spending tax dollars rebuilding Iraq and Afghanistan, but they want to cut spending in America. Go figure.
The new tea party-backed freshman class came to Washington to cut spending. Period. And they’ve joined forces with old-line conservatives in the Republican Study Committee to form an immovable bloc on the issue.
As a whole, that dominant faction of the GOP doesn’t like government much. So if the choice is to keep the same government running at the same rate or to shut it down briefly, some are sure to pick shutdown.
Orange Boehner is finding it takes more than a big gavel to heard cats. Snickering
Cats are scurrying all over the damn place…and rumor has it they turned the GOP legislative plan into a litter box and told Speaker Boehner to put his fucking gavel to use and get to scoopin’!
Bring our troops and our tax dollars home. Cut spending on all war all the time.

Redeyes Wake the F%^k Up Rant
Democrats need to wake up and smell the @#$ coffee. I've been screaming this at the top of my lungs for years, but instead of listening to me I was was banished from the front pages of a blog that is supposed to connect progressive voices. We will never get our message out as long as those of us who stand up for the middle and lower class; we who stand up for the teachers and education; we who stand up for good paying jobs and unions; we who believe in the freedom of the individual to choose - be it religion or no religion or otherwise; are marginalized and minimized by the status quo. We will never get our message out until we have an effective counter to the right wing noise machine aka talk radio.
Of course it would help if ALL of us were on the same page and we didn't have the reform wing, the anti choice wing, the conservative wing, the blue dog wing, the anti teachers and education wing, the anti labor wing, the anti affirmative action wing etc. A bird only has two wings and they must work together in order for the bird to fly.
In the interest of time I am going to re post an original Redeye WTF Rant in my own voice when I tried to sound the alarm in 2009.
W=Where, Why, Who, When or What.
T=The
F=The F word,
WTF is the democratic party?
WTF have we lost 2 special elections in a row?
WTF did we even have to have 2 special elections in the first place?
WTF was the GOTV?
WTF were the town hall meetings and rallies?
WTF were the television, radio newspapers ads?
WTF was the freaking organization?
WTF where Artur Davis and Ron Sparks?
WTF is in charge?
I tired to calm down, really I did, but I'm pi$$ed. Before I go any further let me be perfectly clear, this rant is not directed at anyone specifically, it is directed to everyone collectively and rhetorically.
One thing I'll give the republicans credit for. They always bring their A game and they play to win. If they weren't anti minority, anti choice, anti gay rights, anti labor etc. they would be my kind of party. They know how to play to PR/spin game. They know how to excite their base. They know how to frame the issues so they look like the good guys instead of the bad guys they really are. Of course it doesn't hurt they have the media and the Injustice system as enablers.
WTF is wrong with the democratic party? It's as if they don't want to win. It's as if they are afraid to stand up and fight for what is right (no pun). Who/WhatTF are they afraid of?
Rest of Rant (be sure and read the comments)

The uniformed and the misinformed
Thanks, teabaggers and ill-informed Alabamians for letting the "haves" gain control of the "have nots" once again!"
If you need proof the media we have are responsible for the ill-informed Alabamians/Americans letting the "haves" gain control of the "have nots once again", check out this discussion thread;
DM: “Racism as a natural and inescapable part of a power structure which protects the wealthy and powerful”
So if I wish to protect what is mine and not ‘redistribute” my wealth as Obama would like, that makes me racist?
Here is a fact for ya:
Winners tend to hang with winners (colorless) and losers tend to hang with losers and think of ways to take away what the winners have without the prerequisite knowledge/work that it took to get there.
Redeye: How is President Obama trying to make you re-distribute your wealth?
DM “So if I wish to protect what is mine and not ‘redistribute” my wealth as Obama would like, that makes me racist?”
Be advised I just stop replying to idiotic or obtuse questions/comments.
He taxes SUCCESS. Make too much he wants more than you currently pay, your health care program is too good he wants to tax it or replace it with something inferior. At the same time raising entitlement programs and paying off labor union bosses while the workers get nothing.
Support him all you wish (as I know you will), I know evil and incompetence when I see it. The evil is my opinion, the incompetence is a fact. How did asking those earning over 250 thousand to pay their fair share, and giving those who earn less than 250 per year a tax cut translate into He taxes SUCCESS and redistribution of wealth?
How did passing a bill that offered quality, affordable health care to those without insurance translate into taking from the haves and giving to the have nots, and forcing people who were happy with their insurance coverage to be replaced with something inferior?
How did the stimulus and the bailouts translate into raising entitlement programs and paying off labor union bosses?
How did saving the country from economic ruin and making it so if you get sick you can see a Doctor translate into evil and incompetence?
This is what 27/4 right-wing talk radio and Fox News will get you. It's the media.

Few in the press seem to want to educate the public about how we got into this fiscal crisis in the first place or why projected budget surpluses at the beginning of the Bush years were so needlessly squandered. And remember, those surpluses were turned into deficits through "bipartisan" agreements, such as the Bush tax cuts, the wars, and the bailouts. There's also precious little mention of the grotesque inequality in American society these days, which is worse than even during the Gilded Age. The establishment press seems determined to avoid the obvious conclusion: The rich, the super-rich, and the super-duper rich (as well as the conglomerates) must pay more in taxes to get the United States through the crisis. Ending the two debilitating wars and rolling back what Eisenhower called the "military-industrial complex" should be next. And the billions of dollars wasted in corporate welfare each year must be diverted to human needs. It ought to be against the law to use the public airways to misinform the American people.

Bribery My Donkey
I hate it when "democrats" help the bad guys put the good guys in jail. Has anyone but me noticed members of the party that wants all Americans to have access to quality health care, equal access to a public education, women have the right to choose to have a safe legal abortion, labor have the right to organize, our LBGT sisters and brothers have equal rights, who fight for civil rights and human rights, and who stand up and fight for the rights of the least of these are being investigated, tried and convicted by members of the party who are against those things? I'm just saying...
Has anyone but me noticed members of the party who are fighting for jobs and people in the black belt are labled corrupt by members of the party who are putting people out of work in the black belt? WTFU this isn't about BINGO. This is is bigger than BINGO. It's about jobs. Strike that, it's about poor people.
This debate is about jobs and following the law. It's about the economically disadvantaged people living in the black belt, who unfortunately have to depend either on jobs at the Bingo Hall or toxic waste dumps for their lively hood.
If there was some "bribery" going on, it didn't work
Only in Sweet Home Alabama could the legislators fighting for jobs and voting rights be considered corrupt criminals. Ain't that a dip?
So as you sit in front of your computers in your nice comfy homes/offices, breathlessly reading every line of the Grand Jury Indictment becoming the Judge,Jury and the Executioner, think about what this is really about. We are Democrats. We are the good guys and gals. We fight FOR the people who don't have comfy homes, offices, education or health care.
These men and women aren't corrupt criminals. They didn't bribe anyone for their personal gain. They are hard working men and women, elected by you and me to enact laws and represent us in the legislature. If this issue illustrates anything it's the need for campaign finance reform and public financing of campaigns because that's what this is really about. It takes money to run for office. Strike that, it takes lots of money to run for public office. Therein lies the problem.
It's not about Bribery, it's about JOBS.
We are the good guys and gals, remember?
Who wins if the bad guys/gals lock up good guys/gals?
Think about it.

SELMA | Alabama's Black Belt is suffering some of the worst economic downturn in the nation.
In October, Wilcox County posted a 25.1 percent jobless rate, which was the second highest in the nation.
Statewide, unemployment nearly doubled from a year ago to 10.9 percent in October, the third-biggest jump among the 50 states and the District of Columbia. But new November numbers offer some hope. They show Alabama's jobless rate fell to 10.5 percent, the first month-to-month decline since September 2007.
Still, the rate remains far above the 6.2 percent unemployment posted in November 2008. And Tom Surtees, director of the Alabama Department of Industrial Relations, cautioned that it's too early to call the drop a trend.
This debate is about jobs and following the law. It's about the economically disadvantaged people living in the black belt, who unfortunately have to depend either on jobs at the Bingo Hall or toxic waste dumps for their lively hood.
Employees of Victoryland and Country Crossing, two of the state's largest bingo casinos, were among the marchers.
Many blamed Governor Bob Riley for losing their jobs.
"I don't think a lot of folks realize, that when Victoryland shut down, another 60 people's livelihoods were affected," said Jim Gartland, who raced greyhounds at Victoryland. "Some 600 greyhounds that are born to run, that's what they love to do and now they can't do it."
Both casinos shut down earlier this year, following attempted raids by the Governor's Task Force on Illegal Gambling.

MONTGOMERY, AL (WAFF) – Alabama state senators shot down bringing an electronic bingo bill to a full debate on Wednesday.
State Senator Roger Bedford, D-Russellville, sponsor of the "Sweet Home Alabama" electronic bingo bill, said at this time, he does not plan to bring the bill back up for consideration in this legislative session.
But several other senators have come forward with plans for their own electronic bingo bills.
Only in Sweet Home Alabama could the legislators fighting for jobs and voting rights be considered corrupt criminals. Ain't that a dip?
Rogers is chairman of the Alabama Black Legislative Caucus. He said the removal of bingo machines at Greenetrack will cause the loss of 400 valuable jobs in the impoverished Black Belt county.
“There’s a mother of three who just bought a house and now she’s going to lose her house,” Rogers said.

Arrested were state Sens. Larry Means, D-Attalla, Jim Preuitt, R-Talladega, and Harri Anne Smith, R-Slocomb; VictoryLand bingo casino controlling owner Milton McGregor; lobbyist Jarrod Massey; Legislative Reference Service analyst Ray Crosby; Dothan's Country Crossing bingo casino controlling owner Ronnie Gilley; lobbyist Tom Coker; Montgomery lobbyist Robert “Bob” Geddie Jr.; and Country Crossing spokesman Jarrell W. “Jay” Walker.
McGregor also owns the Jefferson County race track where he had hoped to install electronic bingo machines.
They appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Terry F. Moorer. Each was shackled at the waist, wrists and ankles.

Greenetrack’s impactJobs lost: Greenetrack employed about 400 people before it was shut down in July. On Friday, paper bingo returned, and some of those unemployed were hired back, but more than 350 remain jobless.
Community spending: Without travelers coming for bingo, local businesses have reported a decline in patrons.
Money for charities: Contributions from Greenetrack to local charities and nonprofits are gone, including the annual $780,000 for the Greene County School System.
We are the good guys and gals, remember?
Democrats believe in an economy that entitles all to flourish and not just a select few. In giving more tax cuts for the poor and not just focusing on those that are financially affluent. Democrats believe in more government regulating business vs. letting the market or upper management dictate what and who benefits from a strong economy. Democrats stand for equal rights, such as equal pay for women. Democrats tend to be Pro-choice on the Abortion issue and support stem-cell research. Most in the party, but not all support Gay Marriage and ironically favor President Bush's view on either a form of amnesty for illegal immigration or various forms of supporting immigration. The illegal immigration subject varies widely throughout members of the democratic party. Democrats believe in gun control such as bills and laws that promote guns not getting into the hands of criminals. They are more apt to argue the need to raise minimum wage. Religious democrats tend to have the opinion of not supporting big corporations and have the attitude and value system of Jesus loves everyone to include the poor, that everyone is entitled to health care, and that the only voice for the poor or uninsured is the democratic party.

See a pattern?
Is Left in Alabama Progressive or Conservative? There is more than a whiff of conservatism IMHO.
Artur Davis claims he is a democrat because he believes in the future. O really now. It's kind of hard to have a future when you're dead because you don't have acess to quality, affordable health care. And who doesn't believe in the future? I tell you, the more Artur Davis talks the more he reminds me of George Dubya Bush and his his supporters remind me of Bushbots. They can't defend Davis' message so they attack the messanger. So, gop.
High Street asks the question if the Alabama Democratic Party Conservative or Progressive and 4 other questions. I ask if the leadership (or the lack there of) of the Alabama Democratic Party is Conservative or Progressive? IMHO the democratic party elite are more conservative than progressive. The democratic party elite suppress and down out the progressives (the traditonal democratic base). The Alabama Democratic Party has been infiltrated by Neo-Librals.

What yellowdog said, every last word;
It seems to be the position of the Alabama Democratic Party that truly Democratic liberal candidacies are unwinnable and too defining. To have some success or any success, our candidates have to appear virtually interchangeable in Party identity.
Bobby Bright is a perfect example. As he maintains one of the worst Democratic Party voting records in Congress, indistinguishable from a Republican, here in Alabama he is unopposed in the primary. He is a successful Alabama Democrat. Like most of our State Senators and State Reps. Very little liberal or Democratic legislation ever moves through our State legislative body.
In many States, the voters have to declare Party affiliation to vote in a primary. When registered Republicans and registered Democrats select their nominee, they get more ideologically core-value candidates. You get a more clearly defined Democrat and Republican choice, and the winner is who convinces the unregistered or more moderate voter in the general election.
There is an argument being put forward that the restricted Party voter primaries are creating a more radical, left/right polarization. Open primaries like in Alabama seem to create the opposite.
The Alabama Democratic Party must be calculating its best chances for success as a Party are to be vaguely different from the Republican Party, to the point where (D) or (R) is the only substantial difference in the choice.
