H/T Mark Sumner for Daily Kos~No matter what you think of St. Paul, his letter to the church at Corinth has some beautiful language.
If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing.
Nice, isn't it?
There's a political equivalent of this statement.
If you have a majority in the House and the Senate, but if you lack the courage of your convictions, you're just a mob. If you know exactly what should be done, have every fact on your side, and have the votes lined up to pass legislation by the gross ton, but you don't have the courage of your convictions, you're not only going to accomplish nothing, you are nothing.

Redeyes Week In Review
Or, We must laugh to keep from crying like House Speaker Orange Bohener.
Or, Here Comes the Clowns
The week begin with Speaker Elect John Boehner weeping and wailing his way to the House podium. The Rude Pundit has the best description I've heard, here is an excerpt (warning post contains Rude Pundit language)
Yep, The Wingnuts are here reading the parts of the U.S. Constitution they like! This is what happens when Hate wins over HOPE. I wonder how long it's going to take the Tea Baggers to realized they've been Punk'd big time?
Ya Think?
President Obama really shook up his White House Staff this week...he replace a short, white guy from Chicago, with a tall, white guy from Chicago as his COS. This made the MSM very happy because it was proof Obama was moving to the Center blah, blah, blab, blab.
Are some progressives to passive? Hell YES they are! Enough!
OK, I started out laughing but all of a sudden it's not funny anymore.
So, cool, the shiny, new House opens with a series of lies and hypocrisies, with the craven traditional Republicans trying to keep the lid on the just-elected nutzoids so they don't f^&k up 2012.~The Rude Pundit
"I just left my district this morning, and I saw people who came to me saying, 'Look, I need a job.' I just dealt with -- I just helped my fifth foreclosure progression process, many of them with tears, losing their houses. "~Rep. Isiah Cummings (D MD)
The CBC took a gut punch in the last election. In the Tea Party swarm of the House of Representatives, CBC members lost 3 committee chairmanships and more than a dozen subcommittee chairmanships. CBC alum Barack Obama did pretty well for himself these past 2 years with lots of partners in the 111th Congress, but the 112th is a new ballgame. And the Tea Party would like to strip some of the very programs that have benefited the middle class and Black America, if they can.~Jill Tubman

So the demonstrably unstable Speaker of the House, John Boehner, took his new position from Nancy Pelosi by requesting a comically large gavel. Overcompensating to the hilt, he held his surrogate penis aloft and made a speech that left the Rude Pundit wondering a few things.
Yep, The Wingnuts are here reading the parts of the U.S. Constitution they like! This is what happens when Hate wins over HOPE. I wonder how long it's going to take the Tea Baggers to realized they've been Punk'd big time?
After calling for bills to go through a regular committee process, the bill that would repeal the health care law will not go through a single committee. Despite promising a more open amendment process for bills, amendments for the health care repeal will be all but shut down. After calling for a strict committee attendance list to be posted online, Republicans backpedaled and ditched that from the rules. They promised constitutional citations for every bill but have yet to add that language to early bills.
Republicans say there are subtle reasons for these moves and that they certainly will follow their own rules throughout the 112th Congress. But the hedging on some promises shows just how hard it will be to always match the sharp rhetoric of the campaign with the ugly and complex work of running the House.
Ya Think?
Republicans took control of the House last fall based on commitments to slash governmentI agree with Booman, They have so much Stupid to give. It will be like a fire hose of Stupid for at least the first nine or ten months here.
spending, yet even as they basked in their rise to power Wednesday, they were already under fire for reducing the amount of spending they plan to cut right away.
Republican leaders such as Paul Ryan of Wisconsin took to the airwaves early in the day to deny that they were retreating on spending cuts, following reports Tuesday that the cuts would be $50 billion instead of $100 billion.
Ryan’s explanation of why the number went down was plausible, but also technical and legalistic-sounding. It likely did little to alter the perception for many grassroots conservatives whose busy lives allow sometimes only a few moments a day to pay attention to headlines. The lesson for those absorbing at a glance: Republicans were already letting them down.
President Obama really shook up his White House Staff this week...he replace a short, white guy from Chicago, with a tall, white guy from Chicago as his COS. This made the MSM very happy because it was proof Obama was moving to the Center blah, blah, blab, blab.
Our economy still sucks for 98% of America. Jobs are STILL being outsourced. Wall Street is now riding a hooker and cocaine driven surge. Labor has been ignored by the Democratic Party for the last two years. Americans want JOBS and HIGHER TAXES FOR THE RICH, not cuts to social security and more war.
The last thing Obama needs to hear from is MORE banksters.
And in my honest opinion, Blue Dogs are just Republicans who can trick Democrats into voting for them.
Are some progressives to passive? Hell YES they are! Enough!
The greatest tyranny exists on an inner level. This negative rule of the inner critic or superego harasses us, mocks us, undermines our decisions, and assumes to know what is best for us. Meanwhile, our inner passivity (called the subordinate ego in psychoanalysis) is an enabler, a hidden codependent, which allows the harsh inner critic to punish and limit us. With insight we're able to resolve the conflict between inner aggression and inner passivity and claim our authentic self.
OK, I started out laughing but all of a sudden it's not funny anymore.

I want my @#$^ HOPE for CHANGE we can believe in back!
Two years into President Obama's historic election I'm wondering how in the world HOPE for CHANGE we can believe in got hijacked by the gop infused, media enabled, Tea Baggers? I mean, really...how and why did we (Democrats/Progressives/Liberals) let this happen? There are more of us than there are of them as proven by President Obama's landslide 2008 victory. What the hell happened???
This is what I believe happened...President Obama didn't control the message, the gop infused, media enabled Tea Party controlled the message. He who controls the information controls the outcome.
Until and unless the democratic party comes up with it's own television network like Faux News and nationally syndicated talk radio shows/hosts like Limbaugh, Hannity and Beck, the republicans are always going to control the message.
President Obama can help us help him by reinstating the Fairness Doctrine.
It ought to be against the law to use the public airways to diseminate hate and misinformation.
Then we have the Media Lobbying Complex, distoring what we decide.
The passage of the the Local Community Radio Act is a start.
Lost Hope?
When the going gets tough, the tough get going. Let's get going in 2011 and take our @#$^ HOPE for CHANGE we can believe in back!

What has not changed since 1987 is that over-the-air broadcasting remains the most powerful force affecting public opinion, especially on local issues; as public trustees, broadcasters ought to be insuring that they inform the public, not inflame them. That's why we need a Fairness Doctrine. It's not a universal solution. It's not a substitute for reform or for diversity of ownership. It's simply a mechanism to address the most extreme kinds of broadcast abuse.
It ought to be against the law to use the public airways to diseminate hate and misinformation.
"The FCC has a responsibility to set standards, to say the public can not be offended based on their race or their gender in this country and use federally regulated airwaves that they give licenses to that are very competitive and the FCC is very selective based on standards."
Then we have the Media Lobbying Complex, distoring what we decide.
A four-month investigation into the covert corporate influence on cable news found that since 2007 at least seventy-five registered lobbyists, public relations representatives and corporate officials have repeatedly appeared on MSNBC, Fox News, CNN, CNBC and Fox Business Network with no disclosure that they are paid by corporate interests.
The passage of the the Local Community Radio Act is a start.
The Local Community Radio Act will expand the low power FM (LPFM) service created by the FCC in 2000 – a service the FCC created to address the shrinking diversity of voices on the radio dial. Over 800 LPFM stations, all locally owned and non-commercial, are already on the air. The stations are run by non-profit organizations, local governments, churches, schools, and emergency responders.
The bill repeals earlier legislation which had been backed by big broadcasters, including the National Association of Broadcasters. This legislation, the Radio Broadcast Preservation Act of 2000, limited LPFM radio to primarily rural areas. The broadcast lobby groups claimed that the new 100 watt stations could somehow create interference with their own stations, a claim disproven by a Congressionally-mandated study in 2003.
Lost Hope?
When America elected Barack Obama, cynicism seemed in retreat, beaten back by a wave of ordinary people staking their time, money, and spirit on the prospect of significant change. We seemed to have reached a major historical turning point, offering the chance finally to address our country's root crises. Now, cynicism and despair have bounced back on steroids, as if to mock any new hope that we can help create a better world. Last year's soaring expectations seem distant memories, leaving a bitter taste. Obama's campaign made grassroots participation central, and he's invited us to help him do the right thing in office. But his compromises and the failings of Senate leaders to overcome the resistance of their obstructionist colleagues have destroyed much of the grassroots enthusiasm that existed a year ago. Meanwhile, those of us whose passionate engagement helped elect Obama haven't stepped up to help define our national debates (while the Teabaggers have). Most of us have done little in the past year beyond signing online letters or petitions, and watching shell-shocked from the sidelines as the country's politics spiraled steadily downward. Yet I still believe that we can help transform America through what Nelson Mandela called "the multiplication of courage," as I explore in "Soul of a Citizen." But for that resurgence of courage to bloom, we need to get past the cynical resignation that assumes change is impossible.
When the going gets tough, the tough get going. Let's get going in 2011 and take our @#$^ HOPE for CHANGE we can believe in back!

The Republicans like to use the word Tyrant a lot. Perhaps it's the same sort of tendency you find in liars and cheats and thieves of other types who use those words to describe those who threaten to expose them. Perhaps not, but I've noticed of late that there have been a lot of calls for summary and extra-legal executions coming from Right wing writers and hate shouters like good ol' love thy neighbor Mike Huckabee or Foxboy Tucker Carlson who "personally" would like to have had Michael Vick put up against a wall and shot even though dear justice loving Tucker professes to be -- you guessed it -- a Christian. Pardon me, but I'm confused.
Blast from the past..I'm still weeping for the residents of Alabama's 7th district.

The winners vs the losers, the new American Way
That's right (pun intended), America the Beautiful is no longer the land of the free and the home of the brave, with liberty and justice for all, It's America the Corporation, land of the haves and the have nots, with liberty and justice for the fortunate few, the rest are on their own. Where the rich get richer and the rest get the shaft. God Bless the New American Way!
According the people in control of our state and national government, the federal government is trying to "redistribute the wealth" by taking from the winners and giving to the losers. Asking the winners to pay their fair share of taxes means the federal government is punishing the winners for being successful. According to the powerful privileged, the winners are winners through hard work, and the losers are losers because they are lazy and want the government to take care of them. The losers don't deserve to have access to quality affordable health care if they get sick because they are well...losers. The losers should just go somewhere and STFD and STFU. And to think, this comes from the family values, compassionate, christian, conservative crowd. There is more than a whiff of hypocrisy.
So, how and when did this happen? When did the United States of America morph into the United States of the Rich vs Middle Class/Poor? How did the billionaires convince the have nots they were their friend?
Bob Herbet says all we are good at is bulldozing money to the very wealthy
The winners are obsessed with so called deficit spending/reduction, constitution reform and ethics reform because it's a convenient weapon of mass distraction from the real issues, facing real people
How is it the winners have any creditability anyway?
When are the real republicans going to take their party back from the winners?
I want my Democracy back. You know, the one where there are no red states and blue states, but the United States of America, with liberty and justice for ALL not for some. The United States of America where black, brown, red children have equal opportunities. I want my American Way back. The American way of helping people who need help. The American Way where everybody has the inalienable right to life liberty and the pursuit of happiness, regardless of race, gender, circumstance or political party.

In the next month, despite all their loud rhetoric about the "deficit crisis," the Republicans want to add $700 billion to the national debt over the next 10 years by extending Bush's tax breaks for the top 2 percent. Families who earn $1 million a year or more would receive, on average, a tax break of $100,000 a year. The Republicans also want to eliminate or significantly reduce the estate tax, which has existed since 1916. Its elimination would add, over 10 years, about $1 trillion to our national debt and all of the benefits would go to the top 0.3 percent. Over 99.7 percent of American families would not gain a nickel. The Walton family of WalMart would receive an estimated tax break of more than $30 billion by repealing the estate tax.
Bob Herbet says all we are good at is bulldozing money to the very wealthy
We’ve become a hapless, can’t-do society, and it’s, frankly, embarrassing. Public figures talk endlessly about “transformative changes” in public education, but the years go by and we see no such thing. Politicians across the spectrum insist that they are all about job creation while the employment situation in the real world remains beyond pathetic.
The winners are obsessed with so called deficit spending/reduction, constitution reform and ethics reform because it's a convenient weapon of mass distraction from the real issues, facing real people
In a recent poll, only 4% of Americans identified deficit reduction as the most important issue to be addressed in Congress right now. By comparison, 56% of Americans identified jobs and the economy as the most important issues. These polling results are one reason that it is important, as we explained previously, for the Democrats to avoid getting caught up in the current obsession in the D.C. media and political circles with the deficit.
How is it the winners have any creditability anyway?
What is it, exactly, that the Republican Party stands for? They have a PR rep for being strong on the military, strong on fiscal discipline and strong on traditional values. The problem is that over the last couple of years we have seen that, as a group, they really don’t have any credibility on any of these issues.
The idea that a part who is calling for 700 billion in tax cuts for millionaires and billionaires, money that will have to be borrowed, while at the same time braying about the size of the deficit is not one that can truly be credible on the issue of financing the government. The tax breaks they are ready to defend, at the cost of raising the taxes on the middle class in the middle of the worst economic climate in more than two generations. Not a single Republican would answer what they would cut to pay for this windfall for the ultra wealthy prior to the election or even now.
When are the real republicans going to take their party back from the winners?
Boehner weeps for his dad. Cantor mumbles. Palin communes with bears. One of the least diverse, least intellectually-equipped group of freshmen Congressmen invades Washington soon--to lead, create, fix? Nah, to attack and tear up.
I want my Democracy back. You know, the one where there are no red states and blue states, but the United States of America, with liberty and justice for ALL not for some. The United States of America where black, brown, red children have equal opportunities. I want my American Way back. The American way of helping people who need help. The uniformed and the misinformed
Thanks, teabaggers and ill-informed Alabamians for letting the "haves" gain control of the "have nots" once again!"
If you need proof the media we have are responsible for the ill-informed Alabamians/Americans letting the "haves" gain control of the "have nots once again", check out this discussion thread;
DM: “Racism as a natural and inescapable part of a power structure which protects the wealthy and powerful”
So if I wish to protect what is mine and not ‘redistribute” my wealth as Obama would like, that makes me racist?
Here is a fact for ya:
Winners tend to hang with winners (colorless) and losers tend to hang with losers and think of ways to take away what the winners have without the prerequisite knowledge/work that it took to get there.
Redeye: How is President Obama trying to make you re-distribute your wealth?
DM “So if I wish to protect what is mine and not ‘redistribute” my wealth as Obama would like, that makes me racist?”
Be advised I just stop replying to idiotic or obtuse questions/comments.
He taxes SUCCESS. Make too much he wants more than you currently pay, your health care program is too good he wants to tax it or replace it with something inferior. At the same time raising entitlement programs and paying off labor union bosses while the workers get nothing.
Support him all you wish (as I know you will), I know evil and incompetence when I see it. The evil is my opinion, the incompetence is a fact. How did asking those earning over 250 thousand to pay their fair share, and giving those who earn less than 250 per year a tax cut translate into He taxes SUCCESS and redistribution of wealth?
How did passing a bill that offered quality, affordable health care to those without insurance translate into taking from the haves and giving to the have nots, and forcing people who were happy with their insurance coverage to be replaced with something inferior?
How did the stimulus and the bailouts translate into raising entitlement programs and paying off labor union bosses?
How did saving the country from economic ruin and making it so if you get sick you can see a Doctor translate into evil and incompetence?
This is what 27/4 right-wing talk radio and Fox News will get you. It's the media.

Few in the press seem to want to educate the public about how we got into this fiscal crisis in the first place or why projected budget surpluses at the beginning of the Bush years were so needlessly squandered. And remember, those surpluses were turned into deficits through "bipartisan" agreements, such as the Bush tax cuts, the wars, and the bailouts. There's also precious little mention of the grotesque inequality in American society these days, which is worse than even during the Gilded Age. The establishment press seems determined to avoid the obvious conclusion: The rich, the super-rich, and the super-duper rich (as well as the conglomerates) must pay more in taxes to get the United States through the crisis. Ending the two debilitating wars and rolling back what Eisenhower called the "military-industrial complex" should be next. And the billions of dollars wasted in corporate welfare each year must be diverted to human needs. It ought to be against the law to use the public airways to misinform the American people.

What's that you say? The chickens are coming home to roost?
I'm shocked! Shocked I tell you! NOT. In a previous diary I wondered how long it was going to take for the Tea Baggers to realize they'd been p'unked, or IF they would realize they had been p'unked. Looks it's happening sooner rather than later. *Snicker* This is what happens when you put party over people. Think of it as the dog who chased the car and finally caught it. H/T Brian
Remember how the Tea Baggers ran on the platform of cutting out of control government spending and the stimulus didn't work nor did it not create jobs? Well that's a brazen lie. Rep. Daryl Issa (r.delusional) was on TeeVee the other day saying he was going to hold investigations regarding how and where the stimulus money was dispersed, hinting there was some bribery/corruption involved. Well Rep. Issa won't have to investigate far to find out where every penny of the stimulus went. All he has to do is type in recovery.gov right click.
To date Sweet Home Alabama was awarded 3485 contracts totaling $3,378,018,137.00=10,192.35 jobs.
HERE is a complete breakdown of Alabama Stimulus Money. The top 5 are;
Alabama Dept. of Transportation-$522,464,373.00
University of Alabama Birmingham-$134,061,054.00
Office of the Governor-$132,685,529.00
Auburn University-$82,458,430.00
Board of School Commissioners of Mobile County-$82,085,535.00
Alabama Power Company-$74,558,860.00
I wonder if the red republican Alabama Congress Critters are going to return all that guvvermint money and stop expecting the guvvermint to take care of them?
Nahhhhh, that would be to much like right (no pun).
Instead of bashing President Obama republicans should have been praising him.
Thanks, teabaggers and ill-informed Alabamians for letting the "haves" gain control of the "have nots" once again!

Madison County got a new coroner, Craig Whisenant, thanks to the Republican tsunami. And it appears he got way more than he expected. And it's not just happening in Madison County either
Same thing happened in Cullman. Folks elected a preacher with no experience coroner...Yep it's going to be real interesting to see what happens, I just hope we the people are survivors, get it?
over a guy who'd been in place thirty years. Now, the coroner-elect is running around like a chicken with it's head cut off complaining about the lack of funding and everything else. It will be interesting to see what happens when these folks actually have to govern.

"Slave Labor in Alabama: Why Not?"
The first order of business for the Reddest State Legislature in the Reddest State in the Union will be Raiding the retirement fund and health benefits for teachers, cops, firefighters, and other public servants" because if they don't, Either the costs will have to be reduced or taxes raised drastically which is unlikely given the current taxpayer mood."
State Senator Hank Sanders, Dr. Paul Hubbert and Dr. Joe Reed, tried to tell y'all.
Read the following letters to the editor of The Huntsville Times to gauge the mood of current taxpayers, republican and democratic. Name and personal information redacted.

Huntsville Alabama
My name is XXXXX ZZZZZZZZ. I am a Child Nutrition Professional (CNP or
cafeteria) worker at XXXXXXXXXX School in South Huntsville. I have worked
for the Huntsville City School System full time almost five years. My July,
2010 take home payroll check was $ 685.38. This is not a living wage. It is
not a surviving wage. It is economic slavery.
Between my wife and I, we work four jobs - three part-time and one full

This is slavery. Slavery exists in Alabama and across the USA. Economic
slavery is worse than slavery of 160 years ago. It destroys lives and
families and cripples communities and economies. Slavery is not accidental.
It is a simple economic factor.
Slavery is hidden. Economic slaves do not want to tell others that they are
slaves. It is un-American. Being poor is bad. What is wrong with you? Lazy?
Not working hard enough? Working two full time jobs, still not able to put
food on the table?
Slave owners valued their slaves. Slaves cost their owners a lot of money.
If you got sick, the slave owner wanted you well (because when sick you
could not help in harvesting the crops). Today's, workers are not valued.
The bottom line does not value workers. If you don't want to work at a
place, don't like the pay, unsafe working conditions, etc. - go someplace
else.

Around Christmas time every year, the school administrators takes up a
collection of money from the students for the lunch room workers and
janitors. Why? Because the support workers don't get paid very much. The
administrators they feel sorry about that fact.
Question: Why don't the lunch room workers or janitors get paid very much?
Because the school system CHOOSES NOT to pay them very much. It is kind of
sick, sad and twisted that the children of the school system donate money to
give to the support workers in their school, when the school system itself
is responsible for the slave labor wages the workers receive.
This apparent show of generosity manipulates the children's views of cooks,
and janitors. Why do we give money to these guys and gals? They don't work
hard enough? What is THEIR problem? Why don't we give money to the teachers
too?
Don't you all think it is time to stop slavery in the South? Again.
Maybe next time instead of attacking Sanders, Reed and Hubbert for speaking up and speaking out, y'all will listen to them. But then again, maybe not.
PS from Redeye; The reddest state legislature from the reddest state in the union voted themselves a 63% pay raise last year. They must have known then they could count on the majority of Alabama's white mainstream voters to care more about keeping those darn teachers, cops, firefighters and other public servents from having health benefits than they did their city, county, state or their country.

State Senator Hank Sanders, Dr. Paul Hubbert and Dr. Joe Reed, tried to tell y'all.
MONTGOMERY -- Top Republican leaders say they believe state government must curb its rising costs of providing health insurance and retirement coverage for teachers and other public employees and retirees.
"We can't afford to keep doing what we're doing. We cannot sustain the growth in expenses," said state Rep. Mike Hubbard, R-Auburn, the nominee of Republicans in the state House of Representatives to be the next House speaker, or leader.

The teabaggers have won, let the blood bath begin. I truly hope that the new republican House, and the soon to be republican Senate in Washington do the exact same thing to federal employees and their contractors who make millions compared to the state of Alabama employees. Teachers in Alabama, who have to pay every cent of the cost of operating their classrooms for the last few years - can you imagine operating a classroom without having paper, pens, xerox copies of tests, etc?- and who have not had a raise in over three years (federal employees get a cost of living every year!), while having to take uncaring students to higher standards year after year after year are now going to have fewer benefits, no retirement except a 401K (and we see how much those grew during 2000-2009)!! What is the incentive for teaching under pretty hostile conditions with a largely unmotivated population and an angry mob that seems to be against you? NONE! Thanks, teabaggers and ill-informed Alabamians for letting the "haves" gain control of the "have nots" once again!
Back to the "good old days"...here we come. The doctors, lawyers, and indian chiefs will have it all, and the common man will work his/her fingers to the bone.

I wonder how long it's going to take the Tea Baggers to realize they've been p'unked?
It's pretty clear that the Tea Party members are being set up for a big disappointment. There is little chance that the politicians they are supporting are going to do what the members think they're going to do once in office. The members might supply the votes, but the big corporations behind so many of the things that the Tea Party members hate are the ones supplying the money and organization. These politicians, once in office, will understand that the big money can go after them just as well is it went for them this time, if they don't do what they're told by their big corporate founders. But on the other hand, there will be lucrative lobbying jobs waiting for them if they play along. They are going to disappoint the Tea Party members, no question. What will Tea Party members do then?
Like AL 05 gop Congress Critter Tea Party elect Mo Brooks,Senator-elect Tea Publican Rand Paul is already flip flopping on whether he supports a ban on earmarks.
To repeat: Republicans aren't going to repeal ObamaCare. For one thing the republican majority of the Supreme Court won't let them. For another thing, the repeal of HCR would ad $455 Billion to the deficit.
Tea Party darling Senator-elect Marco Rubio now says he has nothing to do with the Tea Party.
What jobs are republicans going to create?
I wonder IF the TeaBaggers will realize they've been p'unked?

Grassroots activists are not happy with Alabama Republican congressional candidate Mo Brooks, who endorsed — and then reneged his support for — a national Tea Party-backed agenda after taking heat from his Democratic opponent over the document’s opposition to earmarks.
To repeat: Republicans aren't going to repeal ObamaCare. For one thing the republican majority of the Supreme Court won't let them. For another thing, the repeal of HCR would ad $455 Billion to the deficit.

Marco Rubio a Teabagger? Whatever would have given you that idea? If by “Tea Party” you mean “Wants To Run For President Some Day Party,” then yes, he is a member, but only if that’s what you mean. [Miami Herald]
What jobs are republicans going to create?
If, in the future, Republicans ever again ask “Where are the jobs?” it will be because they’ve forgotten where they buried the ones they killed. For now, though, it’s clear they remember all too well. Like a serial killer returning to a favorite dump site to reminisce or further ravage a corpse, Republicans are returning to the scene of the crime for a bit of fun with the still-fresh remains of 240,000 jobs the GOP killed off last month.
I wonder IF the TeaBaggers will realize they've been p'unked?

Pigskin and Politics at Legion Field 2nd Edition
Per tradition I spent last weekend tailgating at historic Legion Field in Birmingham, AL attending the Magic City Classic Football game, aka The Coal Bowl. The Magic City Classic is one of those vestiges of segregation that continues today, continues tomorrow, and hopefully will continue forever.
This is the second edition of Pigskin and Politics which I believe was the beginning of the end of my front page privileges at right leaning Left in Alabama but I digress.:) You can't have a football game/tailgate in Birmingham, Alabama without the talk turning to politics. It's what we do in Sweet Home Alabama. Last year we were hopefully optimistic Barack Obama would be elected President. This year we are fired up and ready to VOTE like our lives depend on it so the Tea Baggers won't put that uppity Barack Obama in his place. I don't know who the polling pollsters are polling but to para quote Rev. Jesse Jackson,Sr. there is more coffee in the pot that tea in the kettle. Meaning there are more black voters in Louisiana, Florida, California and South Carolina alone than there are tea baggers. For some reason the polling pollsters don't believe black folks will get out and vote in the mid terms because President Obama is not on the ballot.
Has anyone but me noticed the TeeVee Talking Pundit Heads are calling the election before a single vote has been cast not to mention counted? What's up with that? What do they know that we don't know? We might as well stop having elections and let the Talking TeeVee Pundit Heads select the winners, you know like the Supreme Court did in 2000. As a matter of fact, what have the Talking TeeVee Pundit Heads been right (no pun) about lately if ever? These are the same people who let Bush and Dick send our troops to war based on DEAD WRONG Intelligence.
Few cannot rule the many, which is exactly what's happening in America because the majority of the American people won't get off their Donkeys and VOTE. One thing I'll say about the minority they play to win and they always bring their A game. The majority of the American people need to WTFU and smell the coffee before it's too late. For example Karl Rove's American Crossroads groups is running ads against Sanford Bishop of Georgia saying he voted to give millions of stimulus dollars to prisoners blah blah blab blab. The democrats come back with an ad that says Bishop is for the second amendment and against gay marriage, instead of saying Karl Rove is a big fat liar. Trust democrats to carry a butter knife to a gunfight. Sigh.
If I hear another republiklan say they want to "cut government spending" after borrowing and spending us into a multi trillion dollar deficit I'm going to scream. If I hear another republican ask where are the jobs after sending jobs over seas and voting against the jobs bill I'm going to scream. If I hear another republican say they want to keep the Bush tax cuts for the rich which is really a tax shift from the rich to the middle class I'm going to scream. If the American people give these Jokers the keys to the car again we will deserve the ditch we will be driven into.
The United states claims to be the land of the free and the home of the brave. My daddys says after November 2, the world will see us for who we really are instead of who we claim to be.
The economy affected the Magic City Classic this year. The crowds were down, the Tailgate lot was not as full, the parade was smaller, and there were less vendors. I didn't hear one person blame President Obama for the economy, but I heard plenty of people blaming the republicans for not letting him fix it.
Speaking of the parade, democratic gubernatorial candidate Ron Sparks did it up right (pun intended). He had a Ron Sparks billboard RV and several cars in the parade. Campaign workers passed out Ron Sparks Golden Flake Chips along with Ron Sparks bottled H20. he was also introduced during half time and made an appearance in the AAMU and ASU Sky box.
The economy must not be affecting Alabama Power because they presented each school with checks for $10,000 for their scholarship funds. I wonder how much they give The University of Alabama and Auburn University?
Even republican candidates see the Coal Bowl as the opportunity to pander, I mean woo African American voters. Dr. Death, I mean Robert Bentley showed up. I heard fans were upset they had to clear the way for his entourage to the sky box elevator. Overheard: Well at least he came at the right time of year.
Huh?
It's Halloween and he looks like a scarecrow.
Also overheard regarding Bentley: He's a really nice guy he just got hooked up with the wrong party.
Big Luther Strange and republican AG nominee was also in the sky box. Luther is big but not strange at all. He will proudly tell you he is 6'9 and appeared to also be a really nice guy but member of the wrong party. I wonder when the really nice guys/gals are going to take their party back from the really mean guys/gals?
Democrats in Birmingham sure know how to fight fire with the fire. The radio ad war in Birmingham is brutal. *Snicker* I heard one that said para quoting Robert Bentley and Bob Riley are liars. Riley pushed for and Bentley voted for one of the largest tax increases in Alabama history, and Robert Bentley lied in your face about taking money from AEA. Now that's what I'm talking about!
Last year I said:

The Magic City Classic is an annual football game between Alabama's two largest, historically black universities: Alabama A&M University (Normal) and Alabama State University (Montgomery). The first game between the two schools was played in 1924. It has been an uninterrupted, annual tradition since 1945 and played at Legion Field in Birmingham since 1946. After winning the 2009 match up, Alabama A&M enjoys a 35-30-3 all-time advantage.
In addition to the actual game, the event is known for a glamorous parade and a raucous "Battle of the Bands" between the respective schools' marching bands. Other events include a kickoff luncheon, pre-game entertainment, and abundant weekend tailgating outside the stadium.

Most of my friends and family are getting impatient with President Obama. They are still waiting for things to change. My daddy says if things don't start picking up, people are going to start picking up things. The banks still aren't loaning money. Our troops are still dying and being maimed and wounded for life in Iraq and Afghanistan. The unemployment rate for African Americans is 15% and getting higher. The justice department is still the Injustice department. Might as well still have Bush and Dick

It's A Wonderful What If Wednesday!
The Talking TeeVee Pundit Heads and the Polling Pollsters were as WRONG about yesterdays' elections as the intelligence that took us to war in Iraq. Their *cough cough* predictions republicans and DINO's were going to snatch the keys to the car from the hands of progressives/liberals and drive the car back into the ditch like drunk frat boys proved to be DEAD WRONG. *Snicker*
Let the Talking TeeVee Heads tell it, there was an anti Washington (Obama), anti incumbent (Obama), anti spending (Obama), anti big government (Obama), grassroots (Tea Baggers) mood that was going to snatch our government back from the clutches of Obama, Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid and them there evil liberals.
The election results are proof most Americans want to work with President Obama's agenda, not against President Obama's agenda. You hear that Artur Davis/Steve Raby and Taze Sheppard? Running against CHANGE and HOPE won't help you WIN elections, it will make you LOSE elections. Most Americans want President Obama to be sucessful regardless of his race. That's why he WON in November.
The Tea Party vs. The Tea Baggers in Kentucky.
What if the Alabama Democratic Party recruited and supported progressive candidates instead of conservative candidates?
What if Alabama Democratic candidates didn't pander to the right (who are wrong about everything) at the expense of the traditional democratic base?
What if the Alabama school teacher using the assassination of a President as a teaching tool were named Barack Obama Mohamed and the President was named George W. Bush? Do you think he would have gotten off a slap on the wrist, or whisked off to Gitmo for some water boarding or worse?
What if President Obama had appointed an African American female from UCLA with no Judicial experience to the United States Supreme Court?
What if Liberal/Progressives voices were heard and not suppressed?
Have a wonderful Wednesday!

The various prophets of doom will need to revisit some of their theories.

The Tea Party vs. The Tea Baggers in Kentucky.
Yep, that's just about all that's required of Republican success in this, the 21st century: unadulterated anger, served with a side of exotic, mid-20th-century Austrian economics, which, if followed, would hurl us back into the malign economics of the 19th century.
Which further, for reasons not entirely clear to rational minds, seems to be the political desideratum of Mr. Paul's Tea Party and all its Kentucky tea partyers. "We have come," said Paul at the oddly chosen Bowling Green Country Club last night, "to take our government back" -- a most appropriate slogan.
Appropriate, certainly, for the reactionary recesses of the Tea Party's collective brain, composed as it is of frenzied, heat-packing opponents of Barack Obama, who actually concedes the Second Amendment's rather right-wing interpretation; of tax protesters, who happen to be paying the lowest American taxes in 60 years, thanks again to their chief villain in the White House; of downright weird "devotees of the gold standard," as the Post's Eugene Robinson observed recently; of "Sarah Palin," Robinson continued, of "insurance company lobbyists, 'constitutionalists' who have not read the Constitution, Medicare recipients who oppose government-run health care, crazy 'birthers' who claim President Obama was born in another country, a contingent of outright racists ... and a bunch of fat-cat professional politicians pretending to be 'outsiders.' "
What if the Alabama Democratic Party recruited and supported progressive candidates instead of conservative candidates?
What if Alabama Democratic candidates didn't pander to the right (who are wrong about everything) at the expense of the traditional democratic base?
Conservatives prefer to think of themselves as the party of “principles”, not “ideas”. In the radical sense, the party is more concerned about its blind faith in God and blind loyalty to country and patriotism. The very nature of the word "conservatism" is to preserve old traditions and resist change. They have a belief that every thing must conform to their moral code. Conservatives are intolerant of anything or any one that doesn’t fit into their belief system, which separates the righteous from the unworthy. Clinging to the old ways gives them comfort in an uncertain world. Conservatives are only open to change if it doesn’t cost them anything or impact their life in any way. What if Alabama Democratic candidates listened to the people instead of the polling pollsters?
Liberals, by the definition of the word, are open to pragmatic change. They embrace new ideas to remedy problems. They are more tolerant of social and religious differences in American society. Liberals have an existential view of the world and want the greatest good for the greatest number of people, by using the most effective policies possible. Liberals believe in progress and that solutions can be found by human endeavor and engagement. True liberals believe in stewardship of the planet, civil rights, and the equality of all people, no matter what their social status, religious beliefs, sexual orientation, or skin color. Liberals are willing to pay a little more for positive change.

What is on my mind Wednesday.
If 50 Teabaggers showed up to protest President Obama or Congressman Parker Griffith (r. traitor) I'll bet there would be wall to wall media coverage complete with live interviews, but since according to al.com, it was only 50 progressive, democratic outcast protesting Dubya's former *ahem* advisor the media we have barely yawned. Thank goodness we have a real media outlet to tell us what really happened duringKKKarl Rove's trip to Sweet Home Alabama. Compare and contrast the coverage. It's like night and day. But I'm not surprised, are you?
Speaking of Bushes Brain aka KKKarl Rove, his base is repackaging their movement in a new, multicultural wrapping. Yeah right. Same stuff, different robe.
Speaking of media coverage, or the lack thereof, check out Booman's version of What if the Tea Party were black.
Uh Oh! The Mainstream Media fired a warning shot at President Obama today. This is the same media who enabled Bush and Dick to send our troops to Iraq based on DEAD WRONG Intelligence, remember? What BlatantLiberal said!
Lord help us, Gun Nut Political Gathering Organized in PA to Shoot Up Cars Representing "Liberal Ideas": Next It's Us
On that note, remember what happened to ultra liberal radio talk show host Rhandi Rhodes when when made a joke about guns and George W-ar Bush? Remember what happened to Air America afterwards? RedEYE reports what you decide.
Paging the Alabama ACLU!!! We've got another prom situation in Dixie. This time it's in Calhoun County Alabama.
So much discrimination, so little time.
It couldn't have happened to a more deserving company. *Snicker*
Redeye over and out for now.

What would happen if we took, say, a couple hundred nicely dressed black men, to a gun show out in rural Anywhere, U.S.A.? What if we came in a couple of busloads, legally purchased firearms and left in a quiet and orderly fashion, just as we'd come. What kind of news coverage, if any, would we get?
Uh Oh! The Mainstream Media fired a warning shot at President Obama today. This is the same media who enabled Bush and Dick to send our troops to Iraq based on DEAD WRONG Intelligence, remember? What BlatantLiberal said!
I'm outraged over this meaningless story for one reason: health care. We saw this most clearly with the death panel lie. That is not a failure of communication or messaging. That was a failure of the mainstream media to educate the people. It speaks to the systemic and endemic failure of the media to simply report. And that is not the White House's fault; it's the fault of a media that will allow lies to take hold. That is willing to report a lie and give it the same billing as the policy itself warping the public's knowledge and facts.
"Oxford High School, a school in Calhoun County, Ala., prom dress codes are strictly enforced. Some say too strictly. This year, the Anniston Star reports that 25 students were disciplined for violating the prom dress code. The strangest part of the story, though, is that the students were allowed to stay at the prom, but the following week, they had to choose the option of receiving corporal punishment (by paddling) or a three-day suspension....The principal, Trey Holladay, defends the policy stating that, "We're using the same policy we've had for the last five years. Being a parent, I want to make sure girls and guys act accordingly. We're a high school, and our community has certain expectations of what is appropriate."
So much discrimination, so little time.
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- A sharply divided federal appeals court on Monday exposed Wal-Mart Stores Inc. to billions of dollars in legal damages when it ruled a massive class action lawsuit alleging gender discrimination over pay for female workers can go to trial.
It couldn't have happened to a more deserving company. *Snicker*
Redeye over and out for now.

Moive Nights:
Hello America. Tonight, I have a special treat for you. A journey, if you will, into the dark, twisted minds of the infamous Teabaggers, Birthers, Neo Nazi, Minutemen, Republican scum bags that are out there protesting the "socialist" agenda of president Obama. You see America, I have been talking to these fools over twitter and when ever I call them out on their racism they always have the nerve to ask for proof. Well here it is. Gather around a see for yourselves the true underlying, but highly visible, motives of the Teaparty. But wait. What I am about to show you is not for the faint of heart. What you are about to see is a young man who goes by the name of Naui and his actions can only be described as nothing less than valiant as he dives directly into the swirl of chaos and danger of a deranged minority of hateful morons carrying signs with much to do about nothing all the while flanked, in some cases at least, by their token Latinos and Negroes barking like puppies at there side. Bon appetit!
This first video took place in Pasadena, Ca, on November 14, 2009 and as you will soon see, what starts off as innocently as the Pledge of Allegiance quickly takes a sharp downward spiral into the obscene....
Now Naui will introduce us to a lost sole who he simply calls a "Super Uncle Tom". I warn you, what you are about to see is...disturbing to say the least.
We need to introduce "Super Uncle Time" to this woman. Watch as this strong African American woman calls out a racist personally.
This video is titled: "This is not funny, this is our country..."
Now I will close this video with a sign of hope. Check out what the youngest of our youth does when these hate filled creeps park their babble outside of a kindergarten. It is amazing...

I'm begging the Alabama Congressional Delegation to vote YES for health care for all Alabamians.
According to the Chairman of the Democratic Caucus, Democrats have the votes to pass health care reform.
And what about the 176 republicans who plan to vote NO on the health care reform bill? Do they honestly believe they will be rewarded by voters for voting against extending coverage to millions of uninsured Americans-ending insurance company abuses and giving Americans control over their own health care?
Time will tell the truth.
There is still time for Parker Griffith, Artur Davis, Bobby Bright and the rest of the Alabama Congressional delegation to put we the people ahead of party and the special interest. A vote against health care reform is a vote to give insurance companies free reign to jack up premiums, drop coverage when people get sick and make life or death decisions for thousands of Alabamians.
I'm begging you, on behalf of the millions of uninsured Americans to vote for health care reform. I'm begging you to vote for single mother who chooses life. I begging you for the college students with pre existing conditions who will be dropped from their parents insurance plans when they graduate from college. I'm begging you for the unemployed and the under employed who can't afford health insurance. I'm begging you for people who use the emergency room as their primary care giver. I'm begging you for the thousands who are dying because they don't have access to health care. I'm begging you for our troops, who are dying and being maimed and wounded in Iraq and Afghanistan. I'm begging you for the children who lose their parents because they don't have access to health care.
I'm begging you to help us, not hurt us.
Connecticut Rep. John Larson, chairman of the Democratic Caucus, said SundayAre Alabama democratic Congressmen Artur Davis and Bobby Bright going to be on the right side of history or the wrong side of history?
morning that "we have the votes" to pass health care reform legislation in the
House.Speaking on ABC's This Week, Larson said, "We are going to make history
today. Not since President Roosevelt passed Social Security, Lyndon Johnson
passed Medicare, and today, Barack Obama will pass health care reform,
demonstrating whose side we're on."
Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz of Florida said she believed the leadership hadWill Alabama democratic congressmen Artur Davis and Bobby Bright vote with democrats or against democrats?
rounded up the votes but the count was still in "flux." She said, ""I couldn't
tell you which 216 members we will have."
On CNN's State of the Union, Indiana Rep. Mike Pence, chairman of the HouseWill Alabama democratic Congressmen Artur Davis and Bobby Bright enable and appease the bitter resistance of the Teabaggers, the birthers, and deathers, or will they denounce bitterness and resentment?
Republican Conference, said of Larson's description of today as historic if
health care passes, "I think it is going to be different from the way John
thinks it is going to be. I think this is going to be a historic weekend because
I think this weekend is going to be the beginning of the end of business as
usual in Washington, D.C. I think the American people see an administration and
see a Congress that are in a headlong rush to confront the very real challenges
that we have in health care with more government instead of more freedom."
"Kill the bill," the largely middle-aged crowd shouted, surging toward lawmakersWill the Vote NO Democrats be rewarded by democratic voters or will they be punished by democratic voters? Is it a coincidence all the vote NO DINO's represent the red, republican, confederate, slave states? Is it a coincidence they all represent districts where a large population of their constituents are uninsured? Have they no shame? No compassion? No decency? No honor? No loyalty? No courage?
who crossed the street between their office buildings and the Capitol.
The motorcade that carried Obama to Capitol Hill to whip up support for the bill
drove past crowds waving signs that read "Stop the spending" and "Get your hands
out of my pocketbook and health care."
Many booed and thrust their thumbs down as Obama rode by.As police held demonstrators back to clear areas for lawmakers outside the Capitol Obama's speech, some protesters jeered and chanted at the officers, "You work for us."Rep. Andre Carson, D-Ind., told a reporter that as he left the Cannon House Office Building with Rep. John Lewis, D-Ga., a leader of the civil rights era, some among the crowd chanted "the N-word, the N-word, 15 times." Both Carson and Lewis are black, and Lewis spokeswoman Brenda Jones also said that it occurred.

All War All the Time, UNfair and Unbalanced
War with a new name is still war, or as mcjoan says, A Rose by any other name..... The Iraq occupation started of as Operation Iraqi Liberation until the warmongers figured out the acronym spelled O.I.L (go ahead and laugh), so they changed the name to Operation Iraqi Freedom (are the Eye Rack Eees free yet?), as of September 1 when combat troops leave it will be called Operation New Damn, I mean Dawn. Who the heck comes up with this stuff?
George W. Bush told us he was sending our sons and daughters to Iraq because he had proof of tons and tons of Weapon of Mass Destruction and Saddam was about to use them on us, remember? So where are the WMD?
Remember how Bush and Dick told us the Iraqis would greet as liberators and throw flowers and candy at our troops and Iraqi oil would pay would pay for the war. So, did the Iraqis greet us as liberators? Nope. The only thing the Iraqi people are throwing at our troops are bombs and bullets, and we aren't even going to talk about the 4 billion dollar a month price tag for the W-ar.
Can you imagine the outrage if Bill Clinton had sent our troops to war based on dead wrong intelligence? I mean he was impeached for trying to conceal a private sexual affair for Christ sake. The teabaggers are upset at President Obama's "out of control spending for domestics issues" but don't say a mumbling word about the price tag of the war and it's negative impact on the deficit.
The mantra from the right said our troops couldn't come home until we (they) win in Iraq. Win what? A mistake?
Operation New Dawn My Donkey.

Dred Scott, Bush v. Gore and now this
Vincent Bugliosi called them the Felonious Five after the 5-4 Bush v. Gore ruling. I call them the Bush Sr. and Bush Jr. Five. The 5-4 decision to grant corporations citizenship rights is right up there with the Dred Scott decision and the Bush v. Gore decision. Both were wrong and had lasting negative impacts on our country.
Dr. Boyce Watkins says the Supreme Court has sold out the American people and the 5-4 decision saying corporations had the same rights as human beings are the teabaggers worst nightmare come to life since they're always hollering about taking their country back. I wonder if they are going to try and take their country back from the corporations?
And we thought republicans didn't want any of them there "activist" judges making up laws and stuff.
Let this be a lesson for voters. The President has the power and authority to appoint Supreme Court justices for life. We can thank Ronald Reagan (r.CA),George H. Walker(r.TX), and his son George W. Bush(r.TX) for this court and this ruling. Remember that when election times come around. You're not electing a President, you're electing a Supreme Court. For life.

The Supreme Court has weakened the knees of politicians who are already manipulated heavily by corporate America. No elected official in his or her right mind is going to support any initiative that votes against corporate interests. America just took a double dose of Capitalism 101, and as a professor of finance, I seriously wonder if our nation understands how unfettered capitalism will ultimately destroy a society.

Sometimes a loss is a victory.
Do you think loosing a filibuster proof majority in the Senate will be a wake up call to the democratic party? (We the people did our part and they squandered it).
Do you think they are going to continue doing the same old stuff hoping for a different result? (Losing in Virginia and New Jersey didn't tell them anything?)
Do you think they are going to grow a spine? (Never underestimate the power of fear and racism)
Do you think they are going to keep silencing progressive voices and criticism? (Put voices from the democratic wing of the democratic party on TeeVee and radio, bring out the big guns and stop taking a kitchen knife to the gunfight)
Do you think they are going to keep rewarding failure and continue to appoint and promote the Brownie's who managed and directed this heck of a job disaster? (We WON with Howard Dean, remember?)
Do you think they are going to continue to misunderestimate the power of the new and improved teabagger infused gop and their media enablers? (Enuff said)
Do you think they are going to continue to let the media and the pollsters spin the message and turn the winners into losers and the losers into winners? (Democrats WON in November, remember?)
Do you think they are re-arranging the deck chairs on the Titanic, or do they have an escape plan? (Is it time to get rid of the filibuster?)
If tonight's loss stikes fear in the belly of the democratic party then tonight's loss is a victory. If it's doesn't then we're all in trouble.
Are your Ducks taped?
