Edited~ Proof there is more than a whiff of hypocrisy by "both sides" on all sides

Everybody knows the media is not the voice of the voiceless, it's the voice of the corporations answerable to it's shareholders, and if there's one thing you can count on from our cable "news" hosts, it's that Republicans will never be called out for their false equivalencies and endless game of 'bothsiderism. Which is why cable and network news should be avoided by elected Democrats and candidates, and others who want to be informed instead of misinformed.

No one is surprised republicans are standing by Rep. Steve Scalise over revelations that the House's No. 3 Republican spoke to a white supremacist group 12 years ago.   After all,  this is how they have defined themselves.  This is who and what  they represent.  They are who and what we thought they were.

There are two things I reluctantly give republicans credit for, they are loyal and unified in support of their party.  They support their guys or gals no matter what.  You won't see republicans breaking rank, reaching across the aisle, calling for bipartianship and compromise.  No Sir.

So what does it say about Democrats and the corporate media's values when they won't call for the resignation of Steve Scalise ,but they called for the resignation of Anthony Weiner when someone hacked his Twitter account and leaked pictures of his male member?

There is more than a whiff of hypocrisy on both sides.

RedEye's Snark Attack

Don't be distracted by WeinerGate
He had inappropriate sexual entanglements with a number of women and lied about it repeatedly to the American people. Yet nobody --- save for cone Colorado law school prof--- seems to be calling for Justice Clarence Thomas' resignation for some reason.

That, even though Thomas, unlike Rep. Anthony Weiner, appears to have actually, and flagrantly, and repeatedly, broken the law.

As we reported in January, Thomas appears to have "knowingly and willfully" filed falsified Financial Disclosure Forms which withheld disclosure of nearly $700,000 his wife received from the right wing Heritage Foundation for the better part of the last 20 years. Only once it was pointed out publicly this year did Thomas bother to file "self-initiated amendments" to the forms he had signed just above the legal warning in bold and all caps which reads: "NOTE: ANY INDIVIDUAL WHO KNOWINGLY AND WILLFULLY FALSIFIES OR FAILS TO FILE THIS REPORT MAY BE SUBJECT TO CIVIL AND CRIMINAL SANCTIONS (5 U.S.C. app. § 104)"
Don't forget the same person who bought us ACORN and Shirley Sherrod is the same person responsible for the latest Weapon of Mass Distraction from the real issues facing real people. But that's OK. Snark
Andrew Breitbart is riding high with sources now in the Oval Office and the Clinton household. I have to agree with Sarah Palin on this, LAME STREAM MEDIA, who will destroy a good man and celebrate a bottom feeding rat faced racist for share.

Dear Lame Stream Media,

Though this should have been done from the gitgo, from this point forward all reporters and journalists when faced with any Republican wienering about the Weiner should and must be asked if they did the same weinering yesterday and today, about the far worse case of Republican Family Values Senator David Vitter who was caught committing REAL SERIAL adultery with prostitutes while he wore diapers. Ask it every single time, and if the Republicans then refuse to come on shows or blackball those reporters and journalists, so be it. For what does it matter, the Republicans all have the exact same talking points handed them by Grover Norquist and Fox News anyway.
We are being lied too...over and over again. But that's OK. Weiners Wiener is more important. Snark

Didn't we see this movie before? You know, the one where the generals lie about the success of their Asian land war by cooking the books (i.e., inflating numbers of enemies killed and/or captured).
In December, Petraeus's command said a total of 4,100 Taliban rank and file had been captured in the previous six months and 2,000 had been killed.
Those figures were critical to creating a new media narrative hailing the success of SOF operations as reversing what had been a losing U.S. strategy in Afghanistan.

But it turns out that more than 80 percent of those called captured Taliban fighters were released within days of having been picked up, because they were found to have been innocent civilians, according to official U.S. military data.

Even more were later released from the main U.S. detention facility at Bagram airbase called the Detention Facility in Parwan after having their files reviewed by a panel of military officers.

How do we know his command lied to the media? Because in September the press officer for the International Security Assistance Force admitted that of the number of captured Taliban claimed at that time only included "initial detainees. In November 2010, the commander of Task Force 435 admitted that over 80% of captured Taliban fighters were released within two weeks from June-November, 2010.
Missing Iraq money many have been stolen, but that's OK, destroying Anthony Weiners marriage and career is more important to the American people who don't have jobs and are about to lose their homes, praying they don't get sick because they don't have health insurance because they have no jobs.
U.S. Defense officials still cannot say what happened to $6.6 billion, sent by the planeload in cash and intended for Iraq's reconstruction after the start of the war.

All white is not right (pun intended)I'm white and conservative on quite a few things; I still think this bill sucks. The vast majority of this state are white conservatives; demonizing them as a class accomplishes nothing.

God forbid white conservatives be demonized as a class. Snark
Yet, those same "African Americans" are likely the same... (0.00 / 0)
Dumb-dumbs that will follow anything that the usual suspects in the black political circles saying without considering any critical analysis on their own. There were also blacks that didn't support the methods of civil disobedience used by the civil rights activist as well, but that didn't mean they were would considered enablers of injustice to humanity.

Another thing is those negros, yeah I'm going to use that word for that faction of simpletons, are the same idiots are the same ones whom will wonder how or why they are continued to be racially profiled like the Latinos and Hispanics as well.

This legislation is the direct result of a significant number of white Alabamians letting their paranoia, xenophobia, and aversive bigotry run-a-mok for sure.
No use in demonizing them as a class indeed,Because we know when two black guys meet, they could only be hoodlums Snark

If they are liberal democrats they must be slimy and corrupt, but let's not demonize them as a class, let's just set up, prosecute and convict them. Snark

Snark attack over and out....for now.

How many members of Congress does Huntsville need?

Congresswoman Terri Sewell is Huntsville's New BFF, Greene, Choctaw, Sumter, Marengo, Dallas, Wilcox, Perry and Hale, Jefferson, Tuscaloosa, Clarke, and Pickens counties, not so much.

After attending a fundraiser hosted for and by the democratic elite(aka deep pockets)Representative Sewell *ahem* toured Huntsville and promised support for defense contractors.
Mayor Battle says Congresswoman Terri Sewell is Huntsville's new best friend because of her commitment to keeping NASA and Huntsville in the forefront in Washington.

That's nice, but what is she doing to help the people in her district? You know, the people who don't have deep pockets and government contracts? To para quote Janet Jackson, what has she done for them lately? According to my sources, not much.

Is Sewell signaling she will vote with the republicans (Mo Brooks included) and against her fellow Harvard Law Alums' proposed defense cuts to reduce the deficit without hurting the middle class and the poor?

President Obama entered the debate about the national debt on Wednesday after months on the sidelines, offering a plan to trim borrowing by $4 trillion over the next 12 years by combining deep cuts in military and domestic spending with higher taxes on the wealthy.

In a stinging rebuke to Republican budget-cutters, Obama acknowledged that the debt must be tackled faster than he has previously proposed, but he rejected GOP calls to make fundamental changes to Medicare and Medicaid and to scale back his initiative to expand health-care coverage to the uninsured.

So, Alabama's top Democrat is all over the Huntsville media market and not one word about WienerGate, The Bingo Lynching, the recent passage of the mean spirited, racist illegal immigration law, or the assault on women's reproductive freedoms.

The power of the press.

Letting the Left Wing Down...again

What do you mean Alabama RECLAIMS the title of being the most racist state in the Nation? This is the home of segregation today, segregation tomorrow, segregation forever, Bloody Sunday, Bull Conner, the 16th Street Baptist church bombing, and legal lynchings.

Remember Alabama State Senator Hank Sanders (D) robocall to democratic voters saying he was supporting Ron Sparks for Governor because he didn't want to return to the days of slavery and Jim Crow and the righty's and some *ahem* progressives got *cough cough*offended because they chose to take his words literally instead of figuratively? THIS is the kind of STUFF, he was talking about.

If you're a Republican legislator eager to redraw your state's political lines to your party's favor in time for the 2012 elections, but fear opposition from a state Democratic attorney general and the Obama Justice Department, what to do?

Sneak little-noticed language into the bottom of a budget bill that allows you to bypass your redistricting foes, of course -- even if it could end up costing your state time and money in the process.

At least that's the approach favored by GOP lawmakers in the battleground state of North Carolina, and based on a similar strategy used in Texas and other Southern states this spring.
See this is what happens when DEMOCRATS don't have a spine and fall for the TeaPublican, media infused OKEY DOKE.

A growing chorus of progressives is calling on Democrats to keep their mouths shut when it comes to Rep. Anthony Wiener's (D-NY) future -- and are dismissing the Democratic calls for Wiener to step down as another sign of the timidity of the party.

It's not so much that Wiener didn't screw up royally, they say. It's that they say it's just not that big a deal, and making it into one falls into a Republican trap. And, besides, they say, as long as Sen. David Vitter (R-LA) is still walking the halls of the Capitol, why should the left be forced to lose one of its most ardent supporters?

It's not clear how far this will develop. Defending Wiener is not something many are willing to do. But for some progressives, the response to Wiener is another sign of the Democratic party letting its left wing down.
While the Wieners are focused on Wieners' Wiener our government is waging WAR, our sons and daughters are dying on foreign soil, unemployment is rising as democrats form a circular firing squad and refuse to fight misinformation with facts.

It never ceases to amaze me how the democratic party enables the republicans to throw the ones with the courage to speak truth to the power under the bus.

The Liberal Media is an Oxymoron

Sorry I haven't been around for the past couple of days, but I had to take a mental health break after being Attacked by the Attack Machine. Don't get me wrong, I give as good as I get, but being called everything but a child of God wears you down after a long sustained attack, so I took a break from blogging, TeeVee and XM radio and did "normal" things like gardening and organizing my garage.

I would like to thank those of you who offered encouragement and support via email, phone calls or in person. Yes, I know all white people don't think or act like The Attack Machine. And for those of you who wondered why I didn't ban The Attack Machine, it's because I firmly believe in the the First Amendment and freedom of speech and I deplore censorship in any form. This is America, the land of the FREE and the home of the BRAVE and we all have the RIGHT to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

Moving on, I would like to welcome The Simple Minded Savior Providing clarity to the simple minded sheep in the Bible Belt...to the blog o sphere and to my blog roll. And they say young people aren't involved and informed?
These tea party buffoons have sponsored a bill that will effectively end ALL abortion in Alabama. Even though this has been decided on a federal level by Roe v. Wade years ago, these fools are wasting time re litigating the past instead of trying to fix our broken education system which leads to high crime and the everlasting shame and embarrassment of people stuck here who don't drink grain alcohol and can read. What happened to jobs?

I would also like to welcome Measured out with coffee spoons readers to RedEyes Front page.

I see the Wieners in the *ahem* news media are still having multiple orgasms over Wiener Gate. The media is so busy trying to prove it's not liberal they bend over for the likes of anti liberals like Breitbart, Drudge, Sean, Rush, O'Rielly and the other Lords of Loud.
Weinergate, as it has been dubbed by pundits across the political spectrum, must be the lamest (non-)sex scandal to come down the pike in years, yet it seems to be getting as much play as Watergate.
That such trivia as an adult sending relatively benign photos and “racy messages” to other consenting adults should be of interest to anyone besides the Representative's wife – much less the making of a week-long “news” story – is obviously a sad reflection of our shallow, sex-and-celebrity-obsessed culture.
But it's also a testament to what you might call the "Breitbart effect" – the ability of conservative activists to push a news story to the forefront of the national discussion, and hold it there for an extended run. Breitbart, like the Drudge Report and a host of other dedicated right-wing provocateurs, has learned the value of gaming the refs – of hounding the mainstream media with angry and unsubstantiated accusations of “liberal bias” for so long the latter tend to overcompensate and give prominence to whatever story the activists are interested in amplifying.

Never mind Rush and others are the biggest hypocrites ever.
In 2006, Limbaugh was detained by United States Customs officers after returning from the Dominican Republic with Viagra in his possession. The prescription wasn't written in Limbaugh's name, so the authorities suspected unlawful possession of a controlled substance. Moreover, a simple google search of the terms "adult travel" (NSFW) reveals that the Dominican Republic has earned an outsized reputation as one of the world's hottest destinations for sex tourists.

What Wiener did online is NOT our business.

Weiner, according to who tells it, did something incredibly stupid, or he grievously sinned. But what he did (the original sin before the lying-about-it part) isn’t any of our business. And, jackass though he is, he apparently never intended to hurt anyone. What Breitbart did, and Meaghan Broussard did, is our business and I think there’s a lot that could and should be said about it.

Why is it OK that Andrew Breitbart acquired and published these pictures? Or that somebody gave (sold?) them to him? And that Breitbart is now holding an allegedly X-rated picture over Weiner’s head, threatening to publish it in case he, Breitbart, is “attacked?” Is blackmail is okay if you do it in public?

So much energy is being expended on trying to get our technologically-fixated and ethically-challenged youth population not to spread around dirty pictures of each other, and to refrain from bullying, cyber- or otherwise.

I ask you: What does it do to our credibility with these young people that Andrew “The Vindicated” Breitbart and his associates have publicly, ostentatiously and self-servingly cyber-bullied Anthony Weiner, intentionally damaging him and causing tremendous collateral damage to his wife and family, apparently with impunity?

I'm just asking.

I want to know when did the mainstream media turned into the National Enquirer?
There is no escaping the salacious Anthony Weiner Internet scandal. Since the mainstream corporate media - for the most part - merged politics, news, entertainment, celebrity personalities and sensationalism, it's been almost impossible to have an informed national discussion on public policy.

One Weiner "confessional" news conference is worth more in advertising revenue than a year of covering our wars that have spanned a decade.

A sizeable percentage of Americans are out of work and without a safety net, Medicare and Social Security are under siege, wars are being fought that receive only sporadic coverage and the disparity in income in America is at its widest point in memory. Yet, these and other pressing issues play a distant second fiddle to a Congressman engaged in sexual titillation over the web and on the phone - however creepy and inappropriate that may be.

The Weiner affair is just the latest example of what Chris Hedges calls "spectacle" coverage superseding the dissemination of news that informs and enlightens.

Remember when the media used to protect us from being lied to?

I sure do miss the good old days when the media told us what we need to know instead of what they want us to know.

If the media were liberal this would be the TOP STORY.

Weapons of Mass Distraction Alert

Psst! The LameStream Media is focusing on the male members of Congressman Anthony Wiener (D. NY) and former Senator John Edwards (D. NC) to distract the public from the real scandal.

Strandedwind at Daily Kos writes

As the situation becomes more clear the need for accountability becomes equally clear.

Congressman Anthony Weiner was stalked, set up, smeared, and this was coordinated to protect Clarence Thomas from scrutiny.

This is another ACORN, another Shirley Sherrod, another NPR ‘sting’. They pick a target, they lie and deceive until they have something a credulous corporate media will swallow, and then another career is ruined or another community resource is destroyed.

On Not getting Distracted by Breitbarts latest smear

Those of you on twitter this weekend can't help but have been drawn into Andrew Breitbart's latest smear festival. The details are sordid and involved, as is usual with anything Breitbart touches.

Given that his latest victim is Rep. Anthony Weiner, it's important to remember what of Weiner's activities might be drawing the right wing fake video impresario's ire. Weiner discussed one of his current concerns with Rachel Maddow last Friday night.

Weiner is pushing hard for Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas to recuse himself on any decisions involving The Healthcare Reform Act
.

From the link:

Clarence Thomas’ wife earned $700,000 from half the radical right-wing ideologues in Washington. Opposing health care reform was her specialty. For 13 years, Thomas didn’t disclose a penny of that income.

He’s trying to conceal a blatant conflict of interest. His family is getting rich off an issue that’s very likely to come before the Supreme Court.

I don't expect Breitbart is getting paid for this directly. Smearing Weiner is an end in itself, and I doubt it was specifically in order to distract attention from Weiner's efforts to shame Thomas into recusing himself. Weiner is an unapologetic liberal, which draws the hate of Breitbart and his drinking buddies no matter what issues Weiner promotes.

You won't hear this is the LameStream Media
Today we find that Andrew Breitbart’s source for the smear attack against Rep. Anthony Weiner, Dan Wolfe (aka @patriotusa76) has deleted his entire Twitter account. There’s been a bad smell about this story from the beginning, and it just got exponentially worse.

What Rude Pundit said
Send all your idiot minions to make a story where none exists, create another distraction because that's f*cking journalism. It has to be because it says so right there on your title, no? Because the only corrective to the mythical liberal media is to just manufacture scandals that discredit those who would give a sh#t about the poor and disenfranchised, like Shirley Sherrod, like ACORN, like Planned Parenthood, like teachers on a break from school, for f*ck's sake. Aid and comfort, Andrew, aid and comfort. But, hey, you play the slavering mainstream media like a whore bragging about his awesome oral skills.

Let's recap the don't look over there story
Justice Thomas knowingly and willingly falsified information on a federal form
-- This matter happened consistently over the course of five years

-- Failed to recuse himself when the supreme court oversaw cases he and his wife had clear conflict of interests

-- Article III, Section 1 of the U.S. Constitution explicitly states that a Supreme Court Justice that “lacks good behavior” can be impeached
[...]

-- perjury

[...]

-- Federal ethics rules are very specific regarding conflicts of interest and potentials for influence

I repeat, anyone who is a Voice for the Voiceless, or an unapologetic liberal, or who speaks for the the left out are Fair Game.

For those who say John Edwards, Bill Clinton, Anthony Wiener and Richard Showers have only themselves to blame for their high tech lynching I say Mission Accomplished.

Republicans firmly believe that voting is a privilege, not a right.

And the only people who should qualify to vote are:
White - preferably male.
Over 40.
A FOX viewer.
A Rush listener.

Overall - Low information voters.

And that's how we get low information state politicians, and Congressmen and Senators.

So, now you know.

A Red HOT Redeye Rant

Would someone please tell the LameStream Media we don't care about about Anthony Wieners' male member? I mean really. They are more concerned weather it's a picture of his male member than they are WHO sent the Tweet. While the republicans are all over TeeVee talking about "cutting out of control spending" Anthony Wiener is talking about his male member. Why? Because it's a Weapon of Mass Distraction. If the media really wanted to investigate something they would find out who was behind the prank. But nooooooo. That would be too much like right (pun intended). Psst LameStream Media, you are being Punk"d. Again. You have reached peaked stupid.

It ought to be against the law to use the public airways to promote racist, racial sterotypes. Fox Pundit Dennis Kneale Associates Public Schools With 'The Crips Or The Bloods'

While discussing the New Jersey Supreme Court decision to make Gov. Chris Christie restore $500 million to the public school system, pundit Dennis Kneale compares public schools with "the Crips or the Bloods."

Other than the obvious race baiting by Kneale, this was also another typical segment for Fox's "Cost of Freedom" block of shows from their business channel that they air on Saturday mornings where it's one lone liberal ganged up on by the rest of the panel and where they're trashing public education. One of their favorite topics right behind trashing unions and crying about any tax increases for corporations.

Most of the Forbes panel seemed to be completely oblivious of the fact that it might cost more to educate children in poor areas of the state and that most of those parents don't have the luxury of "choosing" where their children go to school.

I have to give the TeaPublicans credit for one thing. They are lockstep and on point. No Cat Herding for the gop, no siree. They are all over the airways talking about cutting out of control spending when Democrats are in office, but you don't hear a peep out of them when republicans borrow and spend like drunken sailors. Let the TeaPublicans tell it, the debt was caused by out of control government spending, but the debt was actually created by their out of control borrowing and spending on all war all the time and a tax cut for the rich. Do you hear Democrats all over the TeeVee saying If Americans Don't Want Services Cut, Then Raise Taxes on the Rich and End the Wars? Nope.

Whats that you say? Corporate lobby targets African-Americans for NC bill raising loan interest rates? I'm shocked! Shocked I tell you. NOT.
North Carolina has some of the most stringent consumer protection rules in the country against predatory lending. In 2010, lending groups ramped up campaign contributions to elect lawmakers more hospitable to their interests, and are now pushing a bill that would allow lenders to raise the interest rates they charge on consumer loans -- and reaching out to African-American voters who would be among those most affected by the measure.

RedEye Rant over and out until next time.

We can't win for the media and the ConservaDems

It's easier for the mainstream media to *ahem* talk about Sarah Palin, Chris Christie, Anthony Weiner and Breitbarts latest hoax than it is to talk about the Sad Day in the House of Representatives on the debt ceiling vote to set up a trap for President Obama and the democrats.

House Republicans will hold a symbolic vote next week to pressure Democrats into accepting deep spending cuts in exchange for lifting the $14.3 trillion debt limit.

The move, announced Tuesday in a closed-door conference meeting, is designed to show President Obama and Senate Democrats that Congress will not unconditionally grant the government more borrowing authority.

So now that we know it's a trap to force "deep spending cuts" for the middle class what are WE going to do about it?
Republican aides dismissed concerns — raised by some Democrats — that a failed House vote would rattle the financial markets, much like the failure of the initial Wall Street bailout package in 2008 sent the Dow crashing by more than 700 points. The GOP circulated a fact sheet listing nine examples of clean debt-limit votes that have failed in the House or Senate since 1975.

Tarheel Dem explains what it means.

Until Wall Street is clear that the Republicans really would refuse to raise the debt limit, the Republicans can continue to play their kabuki to try to force Democrats to vote against their key programs - Social Security and Medicare. Who causes the other to blink wins the narrative. Republicans are already arguing that Democrats have already cut Medicare (the same BS that won the GOP the House last year). But that argument after the Ryan budget has less traction.
There is one huge hot sweaty debate coming right before the August recess. (That's assuming that the administration has not made savings that kick the can down the road.) Faced with the debt ceiling being reached while they are home talking with voters and getting their local organizations lined up for next year's campaign, what will Republicans do? As usual, the disunity in the Democratic House caucus (thanks, Heath) is a problem.

The GOP media machine is getting more shrill, a clear indication they are getting worried that the extortion might not work and the hostage might escape.

I HOPE President Obama doesn't capitulate I mean compromise again. The way to deal with Bully's is to stand up to them.

What it means to me...the DEMS had no plan on how to handle this vote. They should have hung together and voted FOR the debt limit increase because it's the right thing to do and what needs to be done. Forget the 30 sec ads; it won't matter in the large scheme of things and that's what DEMS don't get.
They needed to hang together and make a statement; if they couldn't on a yes vote they should have all voted no in protest to the rules and had that be the message; either way it's stupid the way it shook out and took the focus off Medicare which is where it needs to be.

This was a mess all around and the White House should have been focused in on this and working to pull together a plan with house democrats.

Then again, they seem to be focused on a Biden track for a solution and ignoring the House.

I tried to tell them, but did they listen to me? Nope.
Frankly, I don't see how one can be both Conservative and a Democrat. Democrats are pro choice. Conservatives are pro life as long as it's in the womb. Democrats are pro equal rights and civil rights. Democrats are pro labor and pro union, Conservatives are pro-prayer in school and pro "traditional family". Conservatives favorite Congressmen are Jim Marshall and Jim Taylor, Democrats favorite Congressmen are John Lewis, Robert Wexler and Dennis Kuchinich.

Our problem is that the Democratic Party keeps nominating conservatives.

We're in a class war, and conservatism itself is our enemy.
