What looks like #WhiteSupremacy and #BlackDivisiveness on the 52nd Anniversary of #BloodySunday in #SelmaAlabama

Alabama Secretary of State John Merrill speaks during a service at Brown Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Selma, Ala., Sunday, March 5, 2017. Sunday marked the 52nd anniversary of the march across the Edmund Pettus Bridge over the Alabama River in Selma. On March 7, 1965, African-Americans seeking voting rights launched a march across the bridge en route to Montgomery but were attacked by police. That violent episode became known as "Bloody Sunday." (Albert Cesare/The Montgomery Advertiser via AP)
Alabama Secretary of State John Merrill touted Voter ID at Selma Service
For those who don't know the shameful, sordid history of Bloody Sunday let's recap.
On March 7, 1965, African-Americans seeking voting rights launched a march across the bridge en route to Montgomery but were attacked by police. That violent episode became known as "Bloody Sunday."
For or some reason Alabama Secretary of State John Merrill thought the church honoring the 52nd anniversary of Bloody Sunday at historic Brown Chapel in Selma was the perfect time and place to rub the Voter ID law in the faces of the attendees.
"We want to make sure that every eligible U.S. citizen that is a resident of Alabama is registered to vote and has a photo ID so they can participate in the electoral process at they level that they want to participate," Merrill said.
Liar Liar sheet on fire!  EYE guess we are supposed to forget about how after passing the Voter ID Bill, our Governor closed most of the DMV's in the black belt before the 2016 election and that it was proven to be racially motivated after the election.
"Based on its investigation, DOT has concluded that African Americans residing in the Black Belt region of Alabama disproportionately underserved by ALEA's driver licensing services, causing a disparate and adverse impact on the basis of race," the department said.
EYE guess we are supposed to forget John Merrill said and threatened to do this:
"If you’re too sorry or lazy to get up off of your rear and to go register to vote, or to register electronically, and then to go vote, then you don’t deserve that privilege," Merrill said.
He then lashed out at criticism of Alabama's registration process and threatened to prosecute a filmmaker who described registering to vote in the state as "complex and complicated."
Merrill threatened to prosecute Brian Jenkins if he was registered in two states, even though Jenkins never claimed to be registered in Alabama.
Enough about the political duplicity of John Merrill, he's who/what we thought he is.  EYE want to know whose big bright idea it was to invite him to speak at Brown Chapel in the first place? That's like inviting the fox into the hen house.  Note some people walked out on Merrill, not ALL people.
Multiple spectators called out in opposition several times of having a photo ID including in the voting process. Many walked out of the church service while Merrill was still talking including NAACP president Dr. William Barber, according to WFSA.
"Standing on this historic ground, where people died for voting rights, we cannot accept this hypocrisy of voter suppression," Barber said.
The service continued, despite the moments of tension, with Congresswoman Terri Sewell calling for unity and activism and other leaders asking for respect and peace.
Psst!  Congresswoman Terri Sewell and other leaders asking for respect and peace,  your calls for unity, respect and peace are divisive and a pile of manure.  There can be no unity, respect, and peace with people who hate us for our freedom.  That is like asking a rape victim to unite and respect their rapist.  You should have joined Rev. Barber and the others who walked out on John Merrill.  Do the people from North Carolina need to come down here and give y'all lessons on leadership, courage, and conviction?

We the people are tired of politicians who have style but no substance.  EYE want some real leadership. If you are scared just say you are scared and move over and let those who aren't scared takeover.

Keeping the Dumb Bigots in Line. THIS is the #MainstreamMedia we have.

So, yesterday President Obama overerstepped his bounds (code for didn't stay in his place) and announced a series of Executive Orders, one of which makes it more difficult for Americans to sell guns unless they obtain a gun dealer’s license from the federal government.   Gasp!  Some of the  same people who demand we obtain a government issued ID card to vote lost their ever loving minds.  Go figure.
State Senator Paul Sanford (R from Huntsville) said, “The President should set an example and tell the Secret Service that protects he & his family to lay down their arms! Executive Order that!”
EYE am trying to figure out how making it more difficult for Americans to sell guns unless they obtain a license translates into Obama is coming for your guns?  Strike that.  EYE know how.

It's

The

Media

What happened to reporting both sides?  Strike that.  EYE know what happened.  Got to keep the uniformed, misinformed.  Can't risk reporting the truth because the truth is liberal.   Snark
"The fact you are allowed to arm yourself while calling Obama a 'gun-grabbing' tyrant kinda proves he's not."
What part of We the Peeps are fed up with up with gun violence don't the mainstream media and the GOP understand?
At no point yesterday did any Republican candidates or lawmakers point to anything specific in the president’s policy that they found objectionable. Not one measure, not one idea, not one initiative, not one paragraph, nothing.
EYE thought republicans were pro life?

Updated~ You get who/what you vote for. The misinformed and the uniformed "win" again

EYE HOPE you are happy now.

EYE have to give credit where credit is due, low information voters will turn out and vote.  EYE wish someone would figure out a way to suppress their vote.  Thanks to their willful ignorance we can't even vote them out.  Strike that ,we can vote them out if white democrats/progressives ,or whatever they want to call themselves these days, would get off their Donkey's and VOTE.

That said, Democrats must have someone to get off their Donkey's to vote FOR.  In some cases republicans are running unopposed. What does that tell you about the sorry state of affairs when the party that is anti minority, anti choice/women, anti labor, anti public education, anti LBGT, pro war, and debt as far as they can see has a full slate of proud candidates, and the party that is supposed to be for the little guys and gals have none?  What is wrong with this picture when democrats are ashamed/afraid to be called liberal/progressive, and bend over backwards to be conservative?

It used to be the job of the media to inform the public so we could make informed decisions.  Now it's the job of the media to misinform the uniformed, which enabled the gerrymandering, voter suppression, and dark money, creating this situation where we can't even vote them out of office.

EYE sure do miss the good old days when the the candidate with the most votes won instead of the candidate with the most money to use the public airways to keep misinformed uninformed.

Let America Be America Again.

#SweetHomeAlabama Governor Robert Bentley (r. Tuscaloosa) says the "outcry" over the racism of closing the DVM offices is "race politics at it's worse."

Alabama one of the most corrupt states in the country
Project much Governor?    EYE think balancing the budget on the backs of Alabama's Black Belt, refusing to expand Medicaid, signing a Voter ID Bill , closing DVM offices in the Black Belt, robbing the public education budget, and cutting off state funding to planned parenthood, preventing poor /black women from having access to a safe legal abortion is playing race politics at it's worst, but that' s just me.
"Alabama is not George Wallace's state. I don't want it to be George Wallace's state." said Bentley. "I want us to be inclusive. I don't want us to look at the color of people's skin. I don't want us to look at whether they are male or female. We are all Alabamians and I'm their governor. I know most of them (blacks in the affected counties losing driver's license offices) are not going to vote Republican. But you are not going to win people over by not being inclusive."
Psst Governor Bentley.....look in the mirror and say that so you can see how race politics at it's worse looks.

Blaming the victim is so GOP.

Edit~What's up with the separate and unequal fundraisers in #SweetHomeAlabama for Hillary Clinton?

Hillary Rodham Clinton
Democratic presidential hopeful Hillary Rodham Clinton speaks Friday, July 24, 2015, at the New York University Leonard N. Stern School of Business in New York.(AP Photo/Mary Altaffer) (Mary Altaffer)

Let me say EYE am happy a democratic Presidential candidate is actually coming to Alabama and not writing us off, because they think the game is rigged  due to republican gerrymandering, Voter ID laws, and dark money.  But, EYE have to ask why Hillary Clinton is having a $50.00 and up fundraiser for the black democrats, and a $150.00 and up fundraiser for the.... others?  Why not take a play out of Donald Trumps' playbook and have one big $50.00 per person fundraiser for everybody?  You know...a fundraiser that looks like America, and not the republican convention.

Oh, and BTW, you might want to have a conversation with your hostess  for the $150.00 and up fundraiser about some of her recent votes prior to the event.

EYE am just saying....

There is no #ShameOnAlabama None. Zilch. Nada.

Alabama Sucks Because it Dishonors It's Own African American Heritage
What part of Alabama has no shame don't they understand?

Governor Bentley says Congresswoman Terri Sewell is impulsive and ill informed on onehand, and that's she's done a good job on, EYE mean for, her district on the other hand. EYE wonder if he realizes how condescending he sounds?  He also claims the decision to close DVM office in predominately black counties is not race based it's about saving money.  Yeah right, so was Slavery.
"We will go to people's houses to have their picture made if they don't have a photo ID in the state of Alabama," said Bentley. "We're not ever going to do anything to keep people in the state of Alabama from voting. And for them to jump to a conclusion like that, that is politics at its worst."
See what EYE mean? If it were all about saving money the Governor would expand Medicaid, but I digress.  So how does Congresswoman Sewell and the Congressional Black Caucus respond...with a big old hashtag?
U.S. Rep. Terri Sewell, D-Birmingham, and other members of the Congressional Black Caucus are using the hashtag #ShameonAL on Twitter on Wednesday to describe the state's decision to close driver's license satellite offices in the state that disproportionately affect African Americans, the poor and the elderly.
How does the NAACP respond....with a thinly veiled threat, sorta, kinda...?
A top civil rights legal group, citing a likely violation of voting rights, suggested possible legal action against Alabama for its decision to close 31 of its driver's license offices. The NAACP Legal Defense and Education Fund has requested to meet with Alabama state officials in person to express the group's concerns that the DMV closures will make it harder for residents -- particularly African Americans in the state's "Black Belt" -- to obtain the government-issued photo IDs required to vote under Alabama law.
They pull out a knife you pull out a gun.   Now is not the time for hashtag and threats.  Now is the time for action.  The Alabama Legislature can't be shamed into repealing the Voter ID Bill.  The United States Congress can't be shamed into restoring the Voting Rights Act.  We the People are going to have to make them hear us.

#VoterSuppression With the State Seal of Approval and #RollEagle!

The Alabama Secretary of State's Office is kicking off their voter suppression, EYE mean, registration and identification efforts, Nod Nod Wink Wink, with a campaign that features Alabama head football coach Nick Saban and Auburn University head football coach Guz Malzan.

Stay Classy  #SweetHomeAlabama where We Dare Defend Our Right to Suppress the Vote
"But wait, can’t you just get a state photo ID? Sure…But you still have to haul your sorry ass to the non-existent DMV."

Stop with the Faux Shock and Shame. Just stop. #SweetHomeAlabama #VoterSuppression

JD Crowe toons
Alabama continues to turn the hoses on blacks and the poor

EYE don't know which is worse, the Faux Shock and Shame, or the Faux Shock and Awe.

Give me a break.  It's not like you didn't know this was going to be the end result.

What did you expect was going to happen when you enabled republicans to dominate the government?

What did you expect when the republican majority Supreme Court over turned a key section of the Voting Rights Act?

What did you expect when you were dividing, bashing, and destroying the Alabama Democratic Party and it's leadership?

What did you expect when some of you didn't vote in the mid term election, or if you did, vote for republicans?

What did you expect when those of us who tried to tell some of ya'll this was going to happen  were told to STFU and STFD?

Now is not the time for Faux Outrage.   Now is the time for Action.

Action We Need to Take ASAP.

Talk is cheap.

RedEye's #Selma50 Roundup

Just this week, I was asked whether I thought the Department of Justice’s Ferguson report shows that, with respect to race, little has changed in this country. I understand the question, for the report’s narrative was woefully familiar. It evoked the kind of abuse and disregard for citizens that spawned the Civil Rights Movement. But I rejected the notion that nothing’s changed. What happened in Ferguson may not be unique, but it’s no longer endemic, or sanctioned by law and custom; and before the Civil Rights Movement, it most surely was. ~President Barack Hussein Obama

 Meet the New Jim Crow.
Fifty years ago, African-Americans were kept from the polls by the threat of beatings and lynchings. Today, Jim Crow has traded in his white sheets for spreadsheets. He’s Dr. James Crow, systems analyst. His method is lynching by laptop.
Diane Nash refused to march in #Selma50 because George Bush

Former pResident George W. Bush coming to #Selma to help republicans hijack the anniversary of Bloody Sunday

Bush and his wife, Laura, will join President Obama and a  bipartisan congressional delegation, in Selma, Alabama on the anniversary of Bloody Sunday so republicans can pretend they care about black people being denied the right the vote,  and, because republicans must think we are stuck on stupid in AmeriBama.

“The Roberts Court proved again that it will not be deterred by Supreme Court precedent, the realities on the ground in our nation; nor will it defer to Congress even when the legislative branch is granted clear authority by the Constitution to remedy our nation's long history of discrimination against racial and language minorities,” said J. Gerald Hebert of the Campaign Legal Center. “The Court today declared racism dead in this country despite mountains of evidence to the contrary.”

And then there is THIS
Now, the actual effect of the recount is obviously something of a side issue when assessing the actions of the Court. Nobody knew the outcome of the recount, only that it threatened to make Al Gore president, and stopping it would guarantee Bush’s victory. That is the environment in which five Republican-appointed justices essentially invented a one-time-only ruling to stop the recount. And that’s the relevant history in which to understand the Court’s decision to make up its own new legal theories about the regulation of the health-care market now.
Separate but equal Bloody Sunday commemorations coming right up, enabled by President Obama.

It's the republican way!

Now that we have proof Voter ID laws disenfranchised registered voters can we please repeal them?

Mt. Zion Church state history marker near Philadelphia, Mississippi
Fifty Years ago Freedom Summer organizers set out to change the state of Mississippi but they ended up changing our country after a summer of terrorism and fear.
Freedom Summer (also known as the Mississippi Summer Project) was a campaign in the United States launched in June 1964 to attempt to register as many African-American voters as possible in Mississippi, which had historically excluded most blacks from voting. The project also set up dozens of Freedom Schools, Freedom Houses, and community centers in small towns throughout Mississippi to aid the local black population.
The project was organized by the Council of Federated Organizations (COFO), a coalition of the Mississippi branches of the four major civil rights organizations (SNCC, CORE, NAACP and SCLC). Most of the impetus, leadership, and financing for the Summer Project came from the SNCC. Robert Parris Moses, SNCC field secretary and co-director of COFO, directed the summer project.[1]
All that blood, sweat, tears, and sacrifice wiped away with a 5-4 vote, which cleared the way for red, republican controlled, confederate, slave states to enact Voter Suppression, I mean, ID laws.
Less than 48 hours after the Supreme Court struck down Section 4 of the Voting Rights Act of 1965, six of the nine states that had been covered in their entirety under the law’s “preclearance” formula have already taken steps toward restricting voting.
Now that we have proof  positive the Voter ID laws disenfranchised eligible, registered, voters it's time to repeal them.
With Alabama’s voter ID law debuting today, state Republicans are offering a big cash reward to anyone who helps them dig up some voter fraud. But finding voters disenfranchised by the law isn’t difficult, even without financial incentives.
Willie Mims, 93, showed up to vote at his polling place in Escambia County Tuesday morning for Alabama’s primary elections. Mims, who is African-American, no longer drives, doesn’t have a license, and has no other form of ID. As a result, he was turned away without voting. Mims wasn’t even offered the chance to cast a provisional ballot, as the law requires in that situation.
Must See TV
"Freedom Summer," which premieres Tuesday at 9 p.m. on PBS. The "American Experience" film captures the idealism that inspired an interracial group of college students to journey to Mississippi for 10 weeks in the summer of 1964 to register African-American voters.
But it also reveals what happened when that idealism collided with the casual brutality of white Mississippians who saw Freedom Summer as a "nigger communist invasion."

The Tragic Success of Freedom Summer
Sentimentality has its place, but we risk losing sight of the hard-nosed political calculations that informed and drove the initiative. The architects of Freedom Summer were shrewd, pragmatic veterans of a brutal street fight. They didn’t need the help of 1,000 privileged, affluent white students—not, at least, to register voters. Nor were they asking for reinforcements. Rather, they wagered that if white students from prominent Northern families were arrested, beaten and illegally jailed—as they fully expected they would be—the federal government would finally recognize its responsibility to intervene in Mississippi.
It's past time for our government to intervene so we can have fair and free elections in America  again.

The curious case of the Alabama Ballot Security Manual, A practical guide for Poll Watchers

This is a follow up to my June 5, 2014 cross-post via Warm Southern Breezes

Alabama Secretary of State Errs in Poll Watcher Guide: Photo Voter ID Law Disenfranchises Elderly Voters in June Primaries

 AL Ballot Security Manual
The Alabama Secretary of State’s office produced this “Practical guide for Poll Watchers” for the 2014 statewide Primaries (held June 3, 2014), which mistakenly cites the OLD law, which allows numerous types of non-photographic voter identification, instead of the NEW law which MANDATES ALL VOTERS produce “valid” photographic identification. “Alabama Ballot Security Manual: A Practical guide for Poll Watchers, Alabama Primary Election, June 3, 2014“
There's just one problem, via his Deputy Chief of Staff, the Alabama Secretary of State said his office does not produce the manual.

Adam Thompson said

To Whom It May Concern,
The Alabama Secretary of State’s Office does NOT produce any document titled “Alabama Ballot Security Manual: A practical guide for Poll Watchers, Alabama Primary Election, June 3, 2014.” The only documents we produce are the 2014 Alabama Voter Guide and the Alabama Photo Voter ID Guide. Please update your article.
Sincerely,
Adam Thompson
Deputy Chief of Staff
Office of Secretary of State Jim Bennett

Hmmm... was it used during the June 3rd primary?
AL SOS Poll watcher ID help
In a document entitled “Alabama Photo Voter ID Guide” available on the Alabama Secretary of State’s website - http://www.alabamavoterid.com/downloads/AlabamaPhotoVoterIDGuide.pdf – it states in a letter from the Secretary of State Jim Bennett (a Republican), that “Beginning with the 2014 primary election, the State Legislature has mandated that a voter present photo ID prior to voting.”

As well, on page 6 in that document it further states that: “Beginning with the June 3, 2014 primary election, Act 2011-673 requires an Alabama voter to have a specific type of photo identification at the polls in order to vote. If a voter does not have one of the approved forms of photo ID as stated in the law, then he or she may receive a free Alabama photo voter ID card from various locations.”
That information is contradicted, however, in a separate document also prepared by the Alabama Secretary of State’s office (as seen herein) which is entitled “Alabama Ballot Security Manual: A practical guide for Poll Watchers, Alabama Primary Election, June 3, 2014“
On page 19 (as seen herein above) it asserts to cite Code of Alabama 17-9-30 which, up to this year (2014) has allowed voters to produce various forms of non-photographic identification. However, it cites the OLD LAW, instead of the NEW LAW.  Why and how the Secretary of State could screw up in such grand fashion is unimaginable.
If the Alabama SOS didn't produce this guide who did?

Dale Jackson calls for investigation of voter fraud story, say's it doesn't pass the "smell test"

I will let you read the details for yourself, but please note Jackson is not questioning if the story is true,  he is accusing  Al.com of.......... orchestrating this story.
Wow… AL.com writer writes how voter ID isn’t necessary and viola his wife finds a old woman who is denied the right to vote. AL.com then writes the story WITHOUT talking to the woman?
Good job.
There is one small problem with this scenario:
The voter, a great-grandmother to five, was deeply embarrassed by the whole incident and declined to talk directly with AL.com, but she gave her go-ahead for her neighbor, who took her to the polls, to relay the incident, with the provision that her name not be used.
It ought to be against the law to turn people away from the polls in the United States of America.  That's what  doesn't pass the smell test.
"What purpose did turning her away from the polls serve?"
I wonder how many of cases of "suspected voter fraud" were turned in to the GOP?

WAFF 48 tells voters to turn in "suspected voter fraud" to the GOP (RedEye Roll)

Today's primary is the test for the new voter suppression, I mean, voter ID law in Alabama, which republicans tout as a preemptive strike against imagined voter fraud.  So,  in addition to moving a lot of polling places from public facilities to churches and corporations , for good measure, the GOP, enabled by WAFF 48, offers voters some Last-minuet tips about Voter ID, Fraud.
While at the polls, it is important to remember that your vote is a representation of your voice - and you shouldn't let anyone take either away.
The Alabama Republican Party wants your help in preventing voter fraud at the polls Tuesday.
Voters are asked to be on alert and report any suspected fraudulent activity.
The Voter Fraud Hotline number is 1-844-253-7283. This number will also be on signs posted at various polling locations.
A $1,000 reward could be earned for tips that lead to a conviction.
WRONG.  Report any "suspected fraudulent activity" to the Alabama Secretary State, Jim Bennet, not the GOP.  Since Bennett is a republican I guess you could say you are indirectly reporting "suspected fraudulent activity" to the GOP, but he's obligated to be non partisan when it comes to "suspected fraudulent activity".
The Republican party is certain that U.S. elections are rife with voter fraud. How are they so sure of that? Apparently because Republican operatives are the source of most of it.
I think it's called projecting....

Voter ID is not about fraud, it's about Voter Suppression.

RedEye'sWeekly Rundown 5/9/2014

 Sample Voter ID

Reminder: Voter Suppression isn't coming, it's already here.
Alabama voters now need to have a photo ID to cast a ballot. Not having one could get you turned away at the polls.
Poll workers will get a long list of acceptable options, but if you registered and don’t have any of them, you still have a chance. You can apply for an ID to use for voting purposes only.
You will have to provide some documentation to get the free photo ID used for voting. A birth certificate is the easiest way to do it, though you can sign up without it if you were born in-state.
But don’t you dare register for the card if you have another form of ID, though. If you sign the Voter ID Card application and you already have a photo ID, it’s a class C felony.
So Lynda Hairston with the Voter Registration Office says, ” We want you to be very careful that if you sign it, you do not have one in your possession.”

Former Republican turned Independent, turned Democrat, Charlie Crist tells the truth and shames the Devil.

I’m happy for his soul, but I’m happier that someone had the balls to say what he did about Republican opposition to President Obama. Granted, it’s coming from a calculated politician who understands that he’s not nearly crazy and bigoted enough to be a factor in the Republican Party anymore, but I appreciate it all the same.

School Board Meeting Gone Wild, First Amendment thrown out of the door,  here, there, and everywhere.
Restricting access to school board meetings seems more an "intimidation" of critics than any intimidation critics may pose in recording board actions. And it's against the law.

Caught on Tape:  Did Police handle this properly? (Warning hard to watch)
The video shows the officer tackling Jaquora White, 15, and then handcuffing the girl while she is seizing. Jaquora is then left on the floor for an extended period of time while the officers and school officials attempt to clear the halls. Paramedics were eventually called and Jaquora was taken to the hospital.

Out of the frying pan, into the fire?
When a school system closes public schools and replaces them by funding private organizations like The Pinnacle Schools, the people, the community, and especially the students, lose. The district, the people, lose their ability to oversee and question even extreme examples of child abuse as seen in these pictures.
Why Michelle Obama joining the #BringBackOurGirls Campaign is Ridiculous
Firstly, it was absurd to see Michelle Obama holding up a sign with the #BringBackOurGirls hash tag considering that her husband, as Commander-In-Chief, oversees Seal Team 6, as well as every other elite military unit available in the world’s mightiest army. If Mrs. Obama wants to #BringBackOurGirls, then she need not hold up a sign with a sad faced frown. She should talk to her husband.
 Eye see you.
The DOJ said Huntsville's plan does not integrate the school system enough.
Mayor Battle disagreed, stating the DOJ's plan "actually congregates larger numbers of African-American children and underperforming children in a few schools than the plan offered by the Huntsville School Board".
Peace.

Voter suppression is not something made up by paranoid African Americans

African Americans are constantly told that voter suppression is some made up pipe-dream by-election stealing African American voters.

We are told we are "stupid" and there is no such thing as voter suppression.

Except clearly there is.  The Washington Post Aaron Blake writes this:
Black voters played a huge role in delivering Barack Obama to the White House in 2008 and 2012. And in 2014, they will play a huge role in determining whether the president's party can stop Republicans from taking the Senate.
So I guess we are supposed to believe it's a coincidence the first things red, republican controlled state legislatures did when they became the majority is enacted strict Voter ID laws under the guise of combating almost nonexistent "voter fraud." ?
Despite the GOP’s avowal to reach out to new constituencies following the 2012 election, Republican state legislators have continued to support new voting restrictions in 2013. According to a report by Project Vote, fifty-five new voting restrictions have been introduced in thirty states so far this year. “The 2013 legislative season has once again brought an onslaught of bills to restrict access to the ballot, including proposals to undercut important election laws that have recently opened the electorate to more voters,” writes Erin Ferns Lee. These measures include “strict photo ID policies…voter registration restrictions; voter purges; [felon] disenfranchisement; and policies to cut back or revoke voting laws that have made voting more convenient.” By my count, 235 new voting restrictions have been introduced in forty-four states over the past three years.
And where does the majority of the outcry of voter fraud come from?  It comes from republicans and sore losers who don't think African-Americans should have the right (pun intended) to vote unless they are voting for republicans of course.
So here we are, 3 months before a primary and we will have the usual jokers out moaning that Voter ID laws will suppress turnout in the black community. From the President Barack Obama tore into state voter ID laws Friday when speaking to the Rev. Al Sharpton’s National Action Network, accusing Republicans of trying to block minorities, women and seniors from voting and calling the laws a fraud.
But the reality is much better than this, it will suppress illegal turnout in the black community.
Just so you know Radio Boy, there is no illegal turnout in the black community.  The right to vote is scared to the black community.  It is steeped in blood, sweat, tears, courage, and sacrifice.  It is the only weapon we have to protect the very freedoms you hate us for having.
That's why we don't think Voter Suppression with the State Seal of Approval is funny. It's why we shake our heads at the tough Voter ID Laws enacted by red republican state legislatures. It's why we get weep silently when real voter fraud/suppression gets a slap on the wrist, and the imagined voter fraud is prosecuted to the full extent of the law. It's like  1965 all over again.

Alabama Offering "Free" Voter ID cards? Well, Sorta, Kinda..

Nothing is free, taxpayers are funding this little folly.  Although voter fraud is rarer than a shark attack, in an attempt to make sure democrats don't get to exercise their right to vote, Alabama republicans changed the rules in the middle of game.  All of a sudden the state issued voter registration card voters have been using for years is required to include your photo.

Oh wait... the state issued voter registration card doesn't have your photo on it.  Here's an idea, why not re-issue those cards with photo's from the DMV,  those voters who don't have a drivers license can go have their picture made at the DMV, or better yet, by the the mobile vans they've promised to provide for people who can't get to the DMV?  Instead of making the voters come to them, the state of Alabama should go to voters.  After all, the Secretary of State should know who they are, and where they are.

I'm just saying..
